1908 WATER SUPPLY FOR THE PORT

Two water reservoirs were built on top of the cliff over looking the Port, one of these reservoirs were used to supply fresh water to the houses in the village, and the other reservoir was used to supply water for the ships, and the locomotives, the cliff provided gravity for the reservoir built on the ground for the harbour, the reservoir to supply water to the village was built on top a 60 foot high tower, this tower was demolished in the 1980`s. The water for the 2 reservoirs came from a well in Churchtown, about 1 mile from Kilrane village, a pump operated by steam engine was used to pump the water across the land to the village. Because this water was to be used to supply ships it had to be spring water, a well could not be found in the Rosslare Harbour area.
