"Sailor Moon: Another Story" Tips & Secrets

by Avi

Welcome to my li'l ol' tips page, for the "Sailor Moon: Another Story"
video game, an RPG for the SNES. If you're looking for a walkthrough, I
suggest you try Akemi's BSSM Another Story webpage, or TELE-Pathetic
Industries. This page just contains tips that might come in handy, and
a few secrets as well. ^_~

Keep in mind that this the information found on this page is still
incomplete... Hopefully you'll find what I have so far useful. ^_^ Also
note that I played the fan translation of the game, so my terminology
may be different.

I. Lists
 A. Useful Items
 B. Common Enemy Attacks
 C. Useful Link Attacks

II. Secrets

A. Most Useful Items to Have:

Keep a good supply of all of these items at all times; you're going to
need them!

1. Bath Medicine (600 Yen)

This cures 3 of the most commonly used enemy attacks (see below).
Always keep a large supply of this (there's a reason why this is at
the top of the list, you know!)

2. Cologne (3300 Yen)

During a battle, this refills the magic points for your entire party.
Although it's expensive, it's very useful in the later parts of the
game, when the bosses are much tougher (plus, you'll have the cash for
it by then).

3. Application Medicine

This cures the Illusion attack (stars above the head). If you can't get
this, a Pork Chop will also have the same effect (I think...).

4. Alarm Clock

Cures the Sonic Wave attack (description below).

5. Bento/Bento Set

A Bento will cure 100 life for one person, while the Bento Set will
cure all the life points for everyone in your group. I put this on the
list since it's one of the few heal items that can be used in battle.

6. Nigiri/Nigiri Set

A Nigiri cures 30 life points for one person (this is useful in the
early stages of the game, when your life is fairly low). A Nigiri Set
will heal 300 life each for your entire group. Like Bento, this can
also be used in battle.

7. Life Water/Life Can

If one of your members dies in battle, Life Water will bring them back
to life, with 200 health. You cannot buy this item, but you can get
more by defeating enemies at Kainess village, where Mercury has her
adventure. (A poor substitute for Life Water is Oral Medicine, which
has the same effect, but only restores 30 life.) Life Can is an even
rarer item, but can restore your entire party to life, with all of
their health! If you have it, use it only when you're in dire need.

8. Fragrance

Boosts your Attack by 15 points for your entire group. Like Cologne, it
comes in handy later in the game, and for the same reasons.

B. Most Common Enemy Attacks (and their Cures):

Most of these attacks, if they hit, can affect your entire party. In
the case of all them, make sure to heal your affected members right
away; otherwise, you may lose your entire group due to carelessness!

1. Toxic Mist (Cure: Bath Medic)

Symptoms: Turns you grey; green bubble above the head
Effects: Slowly drains your life points during every round

The only upside to this ailment is that someone can still attack even
though they have it. But be warned: if you don't cure it during or
after the battle, it will carry over to your next fight!

2. Illusion (Cure: App Medic)

Symptoms: Star above the head
Effect: Attacking everyone physically (the enemy, your friends, even
yourself!)

You cannot control someone who has this ailment. Very dangerous,
especially if a powerful senshi has it; they might even kill their
own allies!

3. Fascination (Cure: Bath Medic)

Symptoms: Heart above the head
Effect: Same as Illusion (see above); just needs a different cure.

4. Barrier (Cure: Bath Medic)

Effect: Turned into stone

Like Toxic Mist, this ailment will carry over until the next battle,
unless you heal it right away.

5. Sonic Wave (Cure: Alarm Clock)

Effect: Fall aleep

Unlike the other attacks, this can only be cast at one person at a
time. This attack will also wear off if the affected person is hit.

Another very common attack is the Whirlwind Cut, which damages the
entire group (quite deadly, if not blocked by the weaker members of
your party). However, there is no specific cure required for this
attack; just use any item that can restore life points.

C. Most Useful Link Attacks

This is just my opinion, though... Feel free to try other link attacks
and see how well they work, as well!

1. Fire Thunder Shaking (Mars, Jupiter, Uranus)

With the three most powerful senshi controlling this attack, is it any
wonder that it kicks butt? ^_~ Perhaps the most powerful offensive link
attack in the game.

2. Stardust Stream Hit (Moon, Mercury, Mars)

The three original senshi do some serious damage together.

3. Pink Sugar Revolution (Chibi Moon, Saturn)

Chibi Moon is pretty dang useless in this game, but here's where she
redeems herself... Somewhat. This attack can heal up your entire party,
without having to use precious Nigiri Sets.

4. Deep Shaking (Uranus, Neptune)

I suppose it's natural that these two would work well together... ^_^;

5. Dead World Submerge (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)

Not as powerful as the other aforementioned 3-way attacks, but
effective, nonetheless.

II. Secrets

So, you've come to take a peek at where some of the hidden stuff is,
eh? Well, can't blame you... If you'd like to find them yourself, just
skip this part; if not, read on!

A. The Forest

I'm referring to the forest in Chapter 3 where you find Chibi Usa and
Anshar. There are a lot of items hidden under trees, and one of them
are the elusive Aqua Earrings! ^_^ Here's a list of a couple of the
items I found:

Aqua Earrings - In the eastern part of the forest, there is a path that
has no chest at the end. Go to the very end of the path, under the
trees, and look around. You should find the Aqua Earrings! Equip Sailor
Neptune with them and continue on with your journey.

Excellent Doll - Look for a Luna-P (the southern one, I believe). In
the grove of trees behind it, there should be a small path into the
trees. Search around a bit (this took me a while) and you'll be
rewarded with this doll. (I'll tell you what to do with it a little
later. ^_~)

Life Crepe - Search in one of the dead ends in the western side of the
forest, and you'll find this tasty item.

That's all the hidden stuff I've found (getting repeatedly attacked by
enemies kinda put me off from searching any further... -_-;)

B. Harumi

Remember that area you went to before you battled the Ayakashi Sisters
(where they apparently shoot the Sailor Moon show? ^_^)? Well, if you
go back there, you can find a lot of chests, full of useful items.

Here's how to get back to Harumi: Take the bus to the Infinity Academy
(the bus stop in the south of town). When you get there, wait at the
stop again, and take that bus to Harumi. Get off, and go north, and
you'll find the studio. Below, is a couple of the special items you'll
find there:

Studio Cap - Found in one of the chests.

Studio Jumper - Search behind the crates; behind one of them (I think
it's a large one labelled "H-20") you'll find this special item.

C. Collector's Item Shop

Ever wonder what the heck that Ancient Doll you found at the O-SAP is
for? Well, there's a shop in town where you can sell that and other
items for big bucks! Here's how to find it:

When you're sent to find the Moon Book, head over to Crossroads Junior
High. There, a student will tell you about the Collector's Item Shop.
To get there, take the bus to the Infinity Academy. Once you're there,
go west of the school; there'll be a pair of unmarked doors. Go through
them and you'll find the shop! The guy there will buy any special item
marked as a "maniac item" on your inventory (it's funny to hear him
gush over the stuff you bring him ^_^).

Here's a list of the some of items that can be sold there, and where
they can be found in the game:

Ancient Doll - Found upstairs at the O-SAP
Premium Ticket - In Jupiter's adventure, hidden in a barrel in the escape rt.
Playing Cards - In a chest at the Tower of Time
Special Dish - In a chest at the Tower of Time
Excellent Doll* - see above
Studio Cap - see above
Studio Jumper* - see above

Starred items fetch a whoppingly good price, because they're hidden!
Oh, and always say yes to the price the guy gives you; I don't think
he'll buy it the next time around. Once you've sold everything, use
that money to buy items you need, like heal items, etc.

D. Esmeraude

Not really a secret, but this Black Moon villainess is easy to
overlook... She's also tough to beat. However, the reward (and the
experience points) you get might be worth it. Here's how to find her:

When you finally get to pilot the Ark, go to Kainess village, where
Mercury had her adventure. If you go to the village, they'll tell you
that there's a dragon prowling the caves. Go to the northernmost cave
(where you fought Nabu) and go down the stairs; then the dragon will
attack you! It's pretty tough; if you want, you can go to the other
cave and raise the experience level of your party first; or, you can do
what I did and use a Fragrance to raise your group's attack level
(you'd better have a lot of Cologne handy, too). The dragon uses a
Whirlwind Cut attack, so watch that health.

After you defeat the dragon, your battle is not over; it turns out that
the dragon was actually Esmeraude! You'll have to fight her, too. She
uses the same attacks as Nabu (Toxic Mist and Tempest), but she's a
whole lot tougher. Use a Fragrance again, if you need it. Once you
defeat her, you'll get a Red Pupil accessory for your pains (worth it,
I think ^_^).

That's all for now... Hope you found this page helpful! ^_^
