Biography: Original Zara:
2067 - 2091: Home. The West Texas Plains, also known as the Llano Estacado.
Up on the Cap Rock of the Llano Estacado were the cotton farms. Down under
were the cattle ranches and still quite a few oil rigs. Life on the West
Texas Plains was virtually unchanged since the end of the Indian Wars.
Zara was born at home on the family ranch. The McLeod's and McKenzie's were
large families. Zara was an only child but was always surrounded by Aunts,
Uncles and many cousins. Zara was essentially raised as a typical cowboy.
Hard work and hard play. The Moon & Stars Ranch was both playground and
life's work to Zara. She "played" with what the desert provided. Mesquite,
cactus, devil claws, tarantulas, horny toads, rattle snakes, bob cats, and
the occasional cougar or coyote. She learned early to ride the mustangs and
quarter horses used on the ranch to herd the cattle and was also adept on the
dirt bikes and in the range rovers. She was taught to camp and survive on the
desert and to hunt deer, antelope, rabbit and wild turkey.
Zara's early education was homeschooling by her Mother, a certified teacher.
She attended Gale High School, graduating at 18. She received her Masters
Degree at Borden County College, majoring in Psychology, Sociology and
related Counseling fields. Her minors were in Literature. Specialties in
Russian and Sci-Fi Lit. She attended New York City College for her Ph.D. in
Psychiatry.
2091- 2093: Psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital, New York City, Earth.
2093 - 2097: World War Three. Terran Underground Guerilla Warfare Unit.
2097 - Unknown: Just before the Nuclear Holocaust in 2097, several military
and civilian factions escaped in a cryogenic colony ship, the Austin 3,
destination Alpha Centauri. It was never heard from again.
Clone Zara:
Zara McLeod was discovered as the only human occupant of a 21st Century
cryogenic lifepod near the Gamma Quadrant wormhole. A black Persian kitten
was also in the lifepod. They were revived and sent back to Earth for further
investigation after Zara claimed to be a citizen of Earth. Her past history
as Zara McLeod checked out from what few records had survived WWIII.
Subsequent interrogation revealed McLeod was a clone of the original and had
only a vague recall of her recent past. She claimed she was raised by human
clones that had been decanted at an earlier time. She had been "born" with
the original Zara's memories and abilities; the mind and memories of a 30
year old woman in the body of a child. Zara remembered being "told" how she
came to be cloned. She called them "The Others" because she never saw them.
The only contact she had with them was through telepathic communication.
Her lifepod and a few of the others from the Austin 3 had been discovered in
The Others' sector of space. Her cryobed had deteriorated and her body was
found to be non-viable. The Others decided to clone what they had salvaged.
The cloning technique left McLeod outwardly human except for one
distinguishing characteristic; she has two navels. They then had her and
some of the other cloned human children raised by older human clones who had
been variously trained by The Others. They were attempting to study the
species and what variances of input and stresses would occur so they could
assess the potential threat of the species to their own. Zara was never told
what the results of the tests were. She suspected she was not the "first"
clone made from the original Zara. She was encouraged to live out the
memories of her original self but she was also trained to perform tasks which
seemed to have no purpose. She was told the purpose would come in its own
time. When she had completed her training, they told her they were sending
her home and put her back into cryosleep. Her next memories were when she
was revived by a Star Fleet Doctor on the ship that discovered her pod.
Star Fleet Medical studied McLeod and the kitten. Psychologists probed her
memories again and again but little information could be attained regarding
the aliens who had cloned her or their technology. Gaps in her memories,
lack of details and jumps in time indicated to the doctors and investigators
that her "second life" may have been virtual up until she was decanted at
full maturity but that she would not have been able to tell the difference.
Physically, Zara was found to be "mostly" human and approximately 21 years
old. The kitten appeared to be a normal feline. Except it was discovered
they had both been genetically altered. Their PSI was enhanced,
telepathically and empathically and linked to each other. They had the
ability to send and receive thoughts and feelings with each other. The cat
was also capable of reading and sending to others. Zara's reflexes and
strength had been enhanced. She also seemed to age slower than normal for a
human. The cat was found to have sentience and intelligence equal to a
human. Zara named the cat Bodacious after he turned out to have a mean
streak and a penchant for mischief. He told her he had been given to her as
a guide and guardian but that he was unable to tell her how he knew this was
his purpose. Any other enhancements or skills McLeod may have learned since
decanting had apparently been sublimated or erased from her conscious
memories. She cannot recall what the tasks were she had been trained to do.
Star Fleet decided to keep a close watch on her and the strange cat. They
encouraged her to join Star Fleet to facilitate this and in hopes of her
being more accessible to The Others should they choose to reveal themselves
to her again in the future.
SF Academy:
After SF Medical was finished studying her and Bodacious, Zara was allowed to
enroll in Star Fleet Academy. Part of her training included being
re-socialized to the 24th Century. Her mature age, in relation to most
Academy students and her anachronistic past memories, resulted in her being a
leader but in mostly inappropriate pursuits. It was soon discovered, that
once free of confinement in a medical institution, that Zara was a
hell-raiser. She had a rebellious attitude towards authority and often
disregarded protocol. She did do well in her studies, but spent most of her
free time alone and seemed to avoid making close and binding relationships.
After completing the basic 4 year Cadet courses, she graduated in the top
third of her class and was re-certified to become a Counselor.
Assignments:
Assigned to the USS Hornblower as a Counselor. Rose from Ensign to the rank
of Commander while serving there. When the Hornblower moved to a Star Base
posting, Zara requested transfer and was awaiting assignment when she was
reported MIA and presumed dead during a Klingon War Games exercise.

2377:
McLeod woke up one morning in the brig of a Federation ship. She and several
other formerly MIA officers had been discovered in the hold of an Orion
Syndicate vessel. It had been boarded after an unsuccessful pirate raid on a
Romulan merchant convoy. After she was debriefed it was determined she was
not a member of the Syndicate, but a prisoner. She was certified as fit for
duty and put back on the rosters as ready for assignment. She promptly
resigned her commission in Star Fleet. She had learned a lot in the past
year about how High Command operated and she was mildly surprised they let
her go. But she was also aware she was being watched. She chose to be in
plain sight but in a position where she could still protect herself and be
one of the first to know when things were going to hit the fan. Zara applied
for the job as Civilian Constable on Star Base Liberty. It was going to be
an interesting change of pace for her and Bodacious...
