A: This one's easy. The Road Runner, being as intelligent as he is, would cover the opening of a tunnel with canvas, and paint it to look like a plain old rock, so when Wile painted it to look like a tunnel, it already was one!
Q: How did he survive those falls?
A: The studio used a stuntman and those airbag thingys to land on.
Q: How about the explosions?
A: All of those bombs were really just smoke bombs and lots of black powder. (We all know that the US Postal service would NEVER deliver TNT through the mail!)

A: the Southwest American desert.
