Chapter 9: Onto The Cates

V: Why are you asking me this?

V was very curious as to why Brenda was doing all this questioning.

Brenda: You were the only other one to see him drown into that quicksand.

V: The Tin Man is dead, you and Sonny have nothing to worry about. There was no
way the Tin Man could have survived.

Brenda: I would like to believe that, but I have these dreams where the Tin Man
still alive and trying to kill us.

V: Look, you've been through a lot these past few months with Rivera trying to
kill you... I think it would only be natural to have nightmares that the worst
would come.

Brenda: I have this gut feeling that this isn't over.

V: Do you think it actually ever will be? Ms. Barret, you are with Sonny
Corinthos. People are going to be trying to take him down for the rest of his
life.

Brenda: You're probably right about that, but this whole thing with Rivera.

V: You saw him die, the Tin Man is dead, I don't know what else to tell you.

Brenda: Okay... thanks anyway.

V: Right.

Brenda: You know, maybe we could get together sometime and do something?

V: Right... maybe. Bye, Ms. Barret.

Brenda: Call me Brenda.

Brenda left and V took a deep breath. She sat down on the couch and it all went
through her head again. Seeing Sonny shoot Rivera in defense, watching Tin Man
sink into the quicksand to his death, what Jax said up in the hotel. She hoped
it was all over. Then there was a knock on the door. She figured it was Brenda
again.

She went to answer the door, but when she opened it, it was Jerry.

Nikolas dialed his cellular phone again and got the answering machine. He was
getting very worried. Where was Gina?

~^~

Gina: Don't you think you should fight for your marriage?

Gina stood in Jagger's apartment, trying to talk him into going to Port Charles.

Jagger: If I could be with Karen right now, I would, but I have to finish this
case.

Gina: How important could this case be?

Jagger: It's almost over, Gina. Now could you please go back to Port Charles?
You could get hurt here.

Gina: Fine. I'll go back, but you better hurry up, I don't know how much Karen
is going to last.

Jagger: Karen and I share a strong bond, a strong love... she would never break
that.

Gina: Right... hopefully, you're right. Just hurry home, okay. I could use my
big brother around.

Jagger: You never seemed to before.

Gina frowned and looked away.

Jagger: Gina, I'm sorry.

Gina: No, you have a right to be angry. I'll call the airport.

Gina picked up the phone and started to dial. Jagger went into the kitchen to
pour himself a glass of water.

From the fire escape from across the street, someone looked through the scope on
a riffle to see Gina talking on the phone. He pulled the trigger.

Gina was asking what time the next flight left when she heard the window break.
She looked and in a split second, she was too the floor.

Jagger: Gina!

Jagger ran into the living room and went down to her body. She was shot through
her shoulder and blood started pouring out.

Gina: Jagger...

Jagger went to the window and looked out. He couldn't see anyone. Then he
rushed to the phone, which was off the hook. He hung it up and dialed 911.

Jagger: My sister's been shot!

~^~

There was a knock on Karen's door and she answered it. It was Joe.

Karen: Hey Joe, what are you doing here?

Joe: I just came over to say hello.

Karen: Oh thanks... now what are you really doing here?

Joe: Something has been bothering you ever since you came back from San
Francisco and I would like to know what it is.

Karen: Nothing's wrong.

She looked into Joe's eyes and could tell he wasn't buying it. Then she fell
into his arms and started crying.
