Chapter 12: All For Christen

Miranda and Quinn arrived at his home. He took her coat and she sat in the
living room while he went to make a phone call. It was a nice place. White
walls, nice and very comfortable furniture, plus a fireplace at the center of
the room. There was a patio door with a gray curtain that went well with the
rest of the room and there were five plants, one small one on top the mantle.
The room looked filled with life, definitely more livable then Wyndemere.
Miranda saw a picture by the mantel. It was pretty old and she could barely make
out the woman in the picture. She was a young woman with brown hair and dark
eyes. She went up and looked at it. Just then, Quinn came in and saw her
looking at it. Miranda sees him.

Miranda: Who is this woman?

Quinn: She is your mother.

Miranda: (looks at picture) She's beautiful. How come you never showed me this
before?

Quinn: It was too painful.

Quinn poured himself a glass of red wine on the table. His hand was a bit shaky.
Miranda realized it had been awhile since she last saw him. He had a little more
gray in his raven black hair then he did before. He had gained a little weight
but still remained as handsome as ever. He was in his late forties or early
fifties, she wasn't sure. As far back as she could remember, he has always been
in her life and she never really knew why.

Quinn: I called someone who works for me, he will be watching you during your
stay at Port Charles.

Miranda: What's his name?

Quinn: Paul Johnson.

Miranda: Okay... (Puts picture back on mantel and looks to Quinn) Quinn?

Quinn: Yes, Natasha?

Miranda: Could you tell me about my mother?

Quinn: Christen... (Sits on couch) Your mother was the most beautiful woman in
the world. She was kind, gentle, sensitive, smart... the most wonderful person I
have ever met.

Miranda: (sat next to him) Did you love her?

Quinn: (looks to Miranda with sad eyes) Yes... I did love her.

~-~-~-~

Quinn and Christen sat by the brook staring deep into each other's eyes.

Quinn: Christen, I have to go soon.

Christen: I know.

Quinn: Do you promise to keep in touch?

Christen: I will if you will.

Quinn: I love you, you know that.

Christen: Yes, I do.

Quinn went in to kiss her but she pulled away.

Quinn: What is wrong?

Christen: I do not want to kiss you good-bye, Quinn

Quinn: Christen, this is not goodbye.

Christen: We both know it is.

Quinn: I will keep in touch, I promise.

Christen: You may think so now, but you will forget about me.

Quinn: I could never forget about you.

Christen looked into the water.

Christen: It's time for you to go.

Quinn: Yes. I love you, Christen. Nothing will ever change that. When I say
forever, I mean forever.

Christen remained silent as Quinn left her alone.

~-~-~-~

Miranda: So what happened?

Quinn: Well, at first, we were able to write constantly to Each other, but then
one day, I got a letter back from her father telling me to stop writing. I tried
a few more times to get a letter to her, but they were only sent back.

Miranda: But why?

Quinn: I was never able to find out. I guess it was because of our social
classes. She was considerably poor and I was apart of a rich, powerful family.
That was all I could think of and I hated it. I was able to accept it as the
years went by. Then came my worst shock.

Miranda: What was that?

Quinn: It was a long time ago. I had already divorced Denise, Alexis's mother. I
did love Denise but I was not in love with her. That was what broke us up.
Anyway, Helena wanted me to do something for her, and that was to find out who
Mikkos was having an affair with. I didn't have any choice at the time but to go
with it.

~-~-~-~

Quinn had listened in on a phone conversation with Mikkos and his mistress
earlier and he has told her to meet him at the cabin deep in the woods. Quinn
was in the bushes, watching for someone to go into the house. He was about to
give up until he saw a blue car drive up to the side of the cabin. He saw a
woman get out and go into in and he quietly followed her. He peeked into the
window and saw her leave her purse on the table. He couldn't see her very well,
the windows were pretty dirty. He saw her go into some other room. He could
faintly hear some water running and realized she was in the bathroom taking a
shower. He went into the house and hurried to her purse. He opened it slowly
and peeked inside. He saw some makeup, a pencil, a handkerchief and a couple of
other things. He kept digging around until he could find a license, but he
couldn't. Then, the door opened and out stepped the last person he would ever
expect. Christen. She was wearing a black bathrobe and holding the clothes she
wore when she came in. She dropped them to the floor and Quinn just stared.

Christen: Quinn.

Quinn: Christen.

~-~-~-~

Miranda: Oh my God, what happened next?

Quinn: Well, we got in a little argument, I stormed out and drove away. As
upset as I was, I lied to Helena. I told her I could not find out the identity
of Mikkos' mistress.

Miranda: How did she end up with my father?

Quinn: Mikkos and Helena went to visit the Richards. They had a fight and he met
Christen. She was still visiting the garden. He charmed her and took her in to
make Helena angry. Mikkos did not deserve her. I do not know if I did, but she
was worth more than your father, Natasha.

Miranda: (tears running down her eyes) So how long did the affair go on.

Quinn: For years and it was breaking my heart. Then, one night...

~-~-~-~

Quinn was getting ready for bed when there was a knock at the door. He opened it
and there stood Christen.

Quinn: Hello, Christen. What are you doing here?

Christen: There is something you should know and I think it should come from me.

Quinn: What?

Christen: I'm pregnant...

Quinn took a few steps back. It was like someone had punched him in the stomach
and ripped his heart out. She was not supposed to have Mikkos' children, they
were supposed to have children together.

Quinn: What?

He hoped her heard wrong. He needed to of heard wrong.

Christen: I'm pregnant.

Quinn: No…

Christen: I am so sorry, Quinn, but it is true.

Quinn: It was supposed to be you and me.

Christen: I know.

~-~-~-~

Miranda: Why are you always here to protect me?

Quinn looked at her: I promised to.

Miranda: Quinn, what happened to my mother?

Quinn stared out into space.

~-~-~-~

Quinn sat by the pool at the table, thinking about Christen. She was almost due
and he had seen her on rare occasions, all of them about how sorry she was and
how wrong he felt things turned out. He looked into the water and remembered
that day by the brook.

Quinn remembered saying: ...I love you, Christen. Nothing will ever change that.
When I say forever, I mean forever.

Quinn drank the rest of his juice. He did not want to live without Christen
being in his life any longer. He needed to make things right between them.

He got up and went into his car. He drove to the cabin and knocked on the door
but there was no answer. He was about to leave when he heard screaming. He tried
to open the door, but it was locked. So he kicked it open and he saw someone
beating Christen up. He grabbed the man and threw him away. They got into a big
fight and the guy was able to get away. He went over to Christen and she was
badly hurt.

Quinn: Christen, are you okay?

Christen tried to sit up.

Christen: I feel so much pain.

Quinn: I'll call an ambulance.

Quinn went to the phone and started dialing when Christen let out a loud scream.

Christen: (crying) Oh my god, my water broke!

Quinn: What?

Christen: I'm having my baby now!

~^~

Quinn walked into Christen's room. She was sleeping and he sat down beside her.

Quinn: It's a girl. She's very beautiful, I think she has your eyes. I tried to
get a hold of Mikkos, but he was out. Christen, I'm sorry for everything I have
done that has hurt you. I should have never been so rude to you.

Quinn started to cry when she couldn't respond.

Quinn: Please wake up soon. Your daughter needs you... I need you.

Christen opened her eyes and looked at him.

Christen: Quinn.

Quinn: Christen... great, you're awake, I'll get a doctor.

Christen: Wait... Quinn. I just wanted to tell you that there is nothing to
forgive. I understand the way you acting. Could you tell me what my child is?

Quinn: It's a girl.

Christen smiled.

Christen: Natasha.

Quinn: What?

Christen: That is the name I want for my daughter.

Quinn: That is a nice name. Christen, I will be here for you and your daughter
whenever you need me. I promise you this and I will do everything I can to keep
it.

Christen: Thank you, Quinn.

Quinn: Oh, Christen. Do you have any idea who did this to you?

Christen: Helena.

Quinn: What?

Quinn's eyes almost popped out of his head.

Christen: I remember him saying that he was doing this for Helena.

Quinn: I don't understand how she could have found out.

Christen: Quinn, I don't want my daughter hurt.

Quinn: I promise to make sure nothing happens to her.

Christen: That is what I am counting on. Could you please take her?

Quinn: What?

Christen: Take her. Tell Helena and Mikkos that she is dead. I don't want
anything to happen to her.

Quinn: All right. I would do anything for you. I will get a doctor now.

Quinn walked out the door. After the doctor went in, he got started on making it
look like Natasha was dead.

~-~-~-~

Miranda: How come you never told me this until now?

Quinn: I hate thinking about it. It took until now to realize you should know
the whole truth.

Miranda: After you faked my death, what happened to my mother?

Quinn: She was starting to get stronger. She was able to leave the hospital. I
asked me to drop her off at the cabin so she could pack, and I was going to the
manor to tell Mikkos and Helena I was moving. If only I never left her there,
she would still be alive today.

Miranda: It's not your fault, Quinn.

Quinn: Yes, it is Natasha. I should not have let her be alone, I should have
been with her every single second, but because I left, that man was able to come
back and kill her. He is dead now, when Helena was banished, I was able to fire
him as the family hit man and have him killed.

Miranda: I wish you would not have told me that last part.

Quinn: Sorry... Natasha, I just want to make one thing clear right now.
I have never resented your birth and have always loved you as if you were my
daughter.

Miranda: And you've been like a father to me.

They were both silent.

Miranda: Do you think Alexis can get Stefan to help me?

Quinn: I think we have a pretty good chance. I am sure that Stefan will want to
help his sister.
