Chapter 5
Jason walked into the Penthouse and saw nobody downstairs. "Caroline? Robin?
Caroline came down the saris, holding Michael. "Robin left, and said she would
be staying at her uncle's tonight."
"Did you and Robin fight?" Jason asked, not wanting to admit that he had heard
most of it.
"Yeah," was all Caroline would give.
There was a moment of silence, then Jason said," Do you want to do something
today?"
"Well, what is there to do with a baby? I mean, besides going to the park.
Actually, there is somewhere I'd like to go, but its a few hours away."
"Where?" Jason asked.
"Umm… well Niagara Falls. I've never been, and it would be fun for Michael to
watch, although he won't remember it."
Jason smiled. "He may think that it's one huge shower. Let's go. I don't know if
I ever went to Niagara Falls, so it will be my first time also."

A few hours later, Caroline, Jason and Michael were all watching the enormous
amount of water in front of them.
"It's beautiful. I love water. I would prefer it beside a beach, but this is
still amazing," Caroline said.
"Yeah, it's great. How about the three of us go on one of those ferries?" Jason
suggested.
"How about that Michael? You want to go on a boat?" Caroline asked her son in
her high baby voice. Michael squealed and kicked, so the two adults took that as
a yes.

A.J. got off of the elevator and was greeted by Renaldo and Pete.
"Mr. Quartermaine, nobody is here at the moment. You'll have to leave, and come
back another time," Renaldo said.
"I'm not leaving. I'll wait for them to return."
"They won't be returning in a hurry. They will probably be back late tonight,"
Pete responded.
"Why? Where did they go?"
"We are not at liberty to tell you."
"What! Are you telling me that the whereabouts of Jason, Michael and Carly are
CLASSIFIED?"
"Classified? Mr. Quartermaine, we are not the FBI. WE don't use that term. Their
whereabouts are just NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! Now can you please leave," Renaldo
said, moving toward A.J.
"All right I'll leave. BUT I'll be paying the happy family a visit soon."

Shane opened the door to his room at the Port Charles Hotel, and let the porter
bring his bags in. After the porter had left, Shane sat down at the wooden desk,
and opened his wallet. Inside was a picture of Caroline. On the back of the
picture was the number for Jason's Penthouse. She had wrote down the number when
she was in Florida, after she had given birth to Michael. After staring at the
number for a while, he began to dial the number.
After a few rings, the answering machine came on. "Umm, Caroline, honey, its
Shane. I know we haven't talked for months, but anyway, I have a surprise you.
I'll be in touch. I love you. Bye," he said then hung up.
"I wonder where she could be," he thought then looked at his watch. It was 11:30
p.m., which seemed kind of late to be out with a baby. " I hope she's not out
dancing with Jason," he thought. He wanted Caroline to be happy, but he wanted
to be the one to provide that happiness, not Jason. "Well, I guess I'll just
have to wait 'till tomorrow to see her," Shane thought as he put away the
picture.
********************
Jason opened the door to the Penthouse, and put the baby bag and Michael's teddy
bear on the couch. Caroline, who was holding a sleeping Michael, walked across
the living room, and up the stairs to put him to bed. Jason sat at his desk, and
was about to go over the books for Luke's club, when he noticed someone had left
a message, He pressed play, and heard the voice of a man:
"Umm Caroline honey, it's Shane. I know we haven't talked for months, but
anyway, I have a surprise for you. I'll be in touch. I love you. Bye."
Jason stared at the answering machine. "Caroline HONEY? I LOVE You? So this was
Caroline's mystery ex-boyfriend Shane. I wonder what his surprise is," he
thought. He was about to call one of his men to find out more about this SHANE
character when he realized he didn't even know the man's last name.
JASON got up, and went to the bar, to pour himself a drink. He had a weird
feeling inside of him. He didn't know what to make of Caroline's ex-boyfriend.
When he had asked her about Shane, she had been uncomfortable, but they must
have had a good relationship, and kept in touch since Florida, if he called her
here.
Jason's number was unlisted, and only a few people had access to it. If Shane
had it, it was given to him by Caroline. He thought back to the message. Shane
had said, "I love you." Did Shane really still love Caroline? And more
importantly, did Caroline still love Shane?
Jason's thoughts were interrupted a he saw Caroline descend quietly down the
stairs. He poured another drink and handed it to her.
"Jason, today was incredible. It felt so good to be out in the open, to feel the
wind on my face, and smell fresh air."
"I enjoyed it too, and I know that Michael did." He's so happy to have his
mother back. I'm happy you're back too," Jason said softly.
The two of them were standing so close together, face to face. Caroline could
feel her heart pounding, and as she opened her mouth to say something, Jason
leaned in closer. Caroline closed her eyes, and felt Jason's lips brush against
hers. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door, which broke the two of them
apart.
"Come in," Jason called. The door opened and A.J. walked in.
"A.J. it's late. What do you want?" Jason asked impatiently.
"I really don't give a damn how late it is. The three of us have something very
important to talk about."
"A.J., what the hell is so important, that it can't wait for tomorrow?" Caroline
demanded.
"I'll tell you what the hell is so important! The fact that I may have a son.
That's what so damn important!"
"A.J., we all established that Jason is Michael's father, NOT You!" Caroline
hissed.
"No, YOU established that Jason was Michael's father. Jason and I never
established anything. Did you ever have a blood test done Jason? DO you know for
a fact that I'm not Michael's father?" AJ asked.
Jason's mask of stone remained the same. The only movement he made was to cross
his arms.
"Why don't you answer me?" AJ asked angrily.
"Why don't you leave," came Jason's reply.
"Jason are you trying to protect HER? She's not worth protecting. She's a
compulsive liar, who sleeps around, and who is just using you!"
"Okay. I don't care what you say or think about me, but don't you ever, EVER,
insult anyone who I care about in front of me. Is that clear?"
"Oh of course I understand Oh Great One! All of us law abiding citizens must bow
down and obey the Mighty Lord Mob Boss…"
As AJ want on and on, Caroline was trying hard not to lose her cool and start
crying. "AJ can't find out the truth," she thought. "I've lost so many people in
my life… Carly, my mother, Shane… and Eleyna. Oh God, please don't let me lose
MICHAEL. He's my life. Please, make Jason lie. Just this once, make him lie."
"AJ go to hell! You have no right coming here and…" Caroline started to say.
"I HAVE NO RIGHT! Tell me, what right don't I have! The right to keep a child
from the path of violence! The right to care about family? OR The RIGHT TO KNOW
IF I HAVE A SON! YOU know what Carly, I don't expect you to tell the truth
considering you lie likes it's a sport. BUT you Jason, I don't expect you to lie
about this. Not anymore."
"Jason doesn't have anything to say to you! I don't have anything to say to
you…"
"I don't want you to say anything anymore. I want to talk to Jason, man to man."
AJ stepped directly in front of Jason. "Now, tell me… HONESTLY… are you positive
that you're Michael's father? Or am I the man Michael should call 'daddy'?"
