Chapter 7
Jason's men are guarding the entrance of the tunnel they have found. It had been
two days, and they didn't see any action at all. But, then, around 4 p.m., they
heard voices.
Pete: John, do you hear that?
John: I do.
Pete: Somebody is coming. Notify the other guys.
John signals to the others, as they all wait patiently. Out of the tunnel comes…
Pete: That's Maslow.
John: Are you sure?
Pete: I recognize him.
John: Is anybody else with him?
Pete: Looks like one other guy.
John: I'll call the boss.
He picks up the phone and calls Jason. Jason, Luke, Robin and Lois are all in
the Penthouse, waiting for something.
Jason: Morgan.
John: Boss, we just spotted Maslow and one other guy come out of the tunnel.
Jason: You are sure.
John: Sure. What do you want us to do?
Jason: Let them go. Stay there, I'm on my way.
They hang up the phone.
Luke: What?
Lois: Did they see Brenda, Sonny?
Jason: They spotted Maslow coming out of the tunnel with one other guy.
Luke: Then, Sonny and Brenda must both be in there.
Jason: Yeah. I'm going to go over there and check things out.
Luke: You are not going alone junior.
Robin: Jason, no. This man is dangerous. And, we don't know where the tunnels
lead to or where Sonny and Brenda even are and even if they are together.
Luke: She's right.
Jason: Fine. Luke you come with me. Robin, Lois, why don't you stay here, in
case the phone rings or someone gets in contact with you. Luke and I will go
into the tunnel and check it out, I'll leave the other guys outside, to watch.
Luke: That will work. Let's get a move on then.
Lois: Be careful, both of you.
Jason: We'll call as soon as we can.
They leave. In the tunnels, Sonny and Brenda are still walking, in silence,
until Sonny stops.
Brenda: (in a quiet voice) Are you okay?
Sonny: I think my ribs are broken.
Brenda: Let me see, where does it hurt? (Sonny takes her hand and places it on
the soreness)
Sonny: Right there. That idiot hit me a few times.
Brenda: I'm sorry about that. I don't feel anything broken, but, you are
probably bruised pretty bad.
Sonny: Could we rest for a few seconds, I just need to catch my breath.
Brenda: Only for a few seconds. I know you are hurting Sonny. But, I don't know
how long Maslow is planning to keep us in that room or when he is planning on
checking it.
Sonny: What are you going to do Brenda?
Brenda: Don't worry about it.
Sonny: I'm not going to let you go back into that house by yourself.
Brenda: You are not going to tell me what to do.
Sonny: Why are you doing this? What, you trying to show me how brave you are? I
already know that.
Brenda: I'm not going to argue with you about this Sonny. Are you ready to go,
we have a ways yet.
Sonny: Yeah.
They get up and proceed to walk forward, again in silence, but, still holding
hands. Maslow has no idea that they are out of the house. Luke and Jason are on
their way to the entrance.
Pete: Are they coming John?
John: The boss and Luke are going to check the tunnels, while we wait out here.
They aren't sure if Brenda and Sonny are in there.
Pete: (looking up)They are here now.
John: Boss… Spencer, there's the entrance, over there.
Jason: Have you seen anybody else?
Pete: No, not since before.
Luke: Well, junior lets get going.
Jason: You guys keep your eyes and ears open. And don't try and call me inside,
we can't take the chance that the tunnels are being guarded in any way.
Pete: Got it boss.
Luke and Jason enter the tunnels.
