“The course of true love never did run smooth.” William Shakespeare

It is very early Saturday morning and Luke is sitting on the porch having
coffee. Laura is upstairs sleeping after spending the night wandering the
house, again. Laura spent the most of the first week after Lulu’s funeral lying
in bed under heavy sedation. Since Wednesday, Luke insisted that Laura be taken
off the medicine to see how she would cope on her own. When the medicine wore
off she began trying to find a room that wouldn’t evoke a memory of her
children. She couldn’t find one, so has spent her time moving from one room of
the house to another; Sometimes crying, sometimes just staring into space.

As Luke surveys the neighborhood he see the bushes rustle. He stands up to get a
better look at what is making the bushes move. All he can see is a mop of brown
hair pulled up into a ponytail.

L: Hey! What are you doing there?

Liz stands up and give Luke a sheepish half-grin. Luke can see there is a
terrified and apologetic look in her eyes. He is genuinely happy to see her, and
gives her one of his reassuring smiles.

L: Liz. Hey, darlin’ come on up here. You don’t need to lurk about in the
bushes.

Liz: (nervously) Hi, Mr.… uh… Luke. I’m sorry to bother you. It’s too early…
I’ll go. She starts to walk away quickly.

L: No, no, no. Stay. Please. Here, sit on the steps with me.

Luke gestures to the steps and then he sits down. Liz approaches the steps,
walks up them, and sits near Luke. Luke sips his coffee thoughtfully. Liz stares
at her feet, rocking them up and down on the step they are on, not sure what to
say first or how to say it.

L: (venturing) So, how are you feeling?

Liz: Better. The doctor wants me to take it easy for a few more weeks, but I
just had to get out of the house.

L: Feel like your every move is being recorded, eh?

Liz: Yeah. I love Gram, but she can be overprotective.

L: Well, don’t be too hard on her that’s her job. Is there a reason you stopped
by or were you practicing your camouflage technique?

Liz smiles for the first time since the accident.

Liz: I was just wondering if you had heard from Lucky.

L: No, I wish I had. It’s funny I was going to ask you the same thing.

Liz: Gram won’t let me even say his name in her presence, and she’s screening
the mail, too. That’s why I came over here so early. If she knew I was here she
would ground me until I’m 30.

An uncomfortable silence falls between them. Liz wants to blurt out the whole
truth, but is sure that Luke wouldn’t believe her.

Liz: (shaking her head) He didn’t drug me. I know everyone thinks he did, but he
didn’t.

L: Do you know that for sure? He did run away. Don’t you think that makes him
look guilty?

Liz: I suppose it could look that way. I just know he didn’t. He would never
hurt me.

L: I know that. I just wanted… Needed to hear you say that.

Liz: (choking up, tears filling her eyes) I’m very sorry about Lulu. I can’t
stop thinking that it’s my fault.

Luke reaches over and gently rubs Liz’s back.

L: (soothingly) It’s not anyone’s fault. That’s why they call it an accident.

Liz holds her breath to keep herself from crying. Luke continues to rub her back
reassuringly. He has to fight hard to block out thoughts never being able to
share a moment like this with his daughter. Liz finally takes a deep breath and
stands up.

Liz: Well, I better get back before Gram notices I’m gone.

L: It was good to see you. Please come by as often as you can. I mean that.

Liz: O.K. I will. Will you let me know if you hear from him?

L: Of course. And you’ll do the same?

Liz: Yes. (Gives a little wave) Bye.

Luke gives her one of his typical grins and a wink. Liz hurries up the walk, and
Luke returns to his coffee.

It is now later that morning and the ELQ meeting is underway. All listen
attentively as Ned makes his presentation to the potential clients. Alexis,
usually very self-possessed during business meetings, is unsettled. She had a
restless night and jittery morning wondering when Helena will carry out her
revenge. A secretary enters the room and apprehensively approaches Ned. He takes
the note from her hand, reads it, and a concerned expression crosses his face.
He looks at the ELQ staff, and they can see the fear in his eyes.

N: Excuse me, please.

Ned leaves the meeting room, crosses the hall to his office and picks up the
phone. Edward speaks briefly with the clients, then ushers A.J. and Alexis out
of the meeting and they all enter Ned’s office.

N: This is Ned Ashton.

As he listens to the person on the other end, he turns pale and looks for a
chair to sit on. A.J. pushes a chair over to him and he sits apprehensively.

N: Yes. Yes. When? How did it happen? (Long pause) Did they catch? (Long pause)
Yes. Where are they? I’m on my way.

Ned hangs up the phone. He tries to maintain his composure, but is visible
shaken.

E: (impatiently) Well?

N: (voice shaking) It’s Lois and Brooke. They were in a bagel shop this morning
when some skinheads came in, and held all of the customers at gunpoint. They
spray painted swastikas on everything and everyone, and then they started
breaking up the place. Before they ran out they opened fire, everyone was hit.

A.J.: (concerned) What about Lois and Brooklyn?

N: (crying) They were hit, too. They’ve been taken to the hospital. I need to
go.

E: Yes, yes, of course. Don’t you worry Ned; we’ll get them the best doctors.
A.J. go and let the clients know we’ll need to reschedule. I’ll have one of the
secretary’s call for the limo, and be sure the jet is gassed up and ready to go.
As long as I live I’ll never understand what possesses people do these sorts of
things.

A.J.: (looking sincerely reticent) Ned…

N: (nodding knowingly) Thanks, Junior.

Edward and A.J. leave Ned’s office quickly. Alexis looks at Ned, then walks over
and hugs him. He holds on to her tightly.

A: If there is *anything* I can do for you.

N: Thanks. But there’s nothing I can think of. I have to go.

A: Yes, of course.

Ned quickly leaves the room, followed by Alexis. She watches him run to the
elevator, then walks down the hall to her office. She sits at her desk and tries
to concentrate on her work, but her mind is preoccupied. She can’t believe that
in this day and age people could be so narrow-minded. What do they think this
will prove? Will it win anyone to their point-of-view? No. She sighs as she
thinks of the senselessness of it all. Alexis is deep in thought when the phone
rings.

A: Hello. Alexis Davis.

Helena: (happily) Well, Natasha, you told me to take my best shot. (Earnestly) I
did.

A: (perplexed) What do you mean?

H: Random acts aren’t always so random.

Alexis sinks back into her chair as she grasps Helena’s meaning. Tears form in
her eyes, and she feels as if she will vomit.

A: (quiet, voice shaking) Oh, God. No. No, you didn’t.

H: Yes. (Nastily) Now either you do as I say, or Mr. Ashton’s family will become
two more marks on a police station homicide board.

A: (choking up) Why them?

H: I know you and Mr. Ashton have been carrying on a secret affair. I need you,
so I couldn’t very well hurt you. And from your attitude on the phone last
night, I could tell it wouldn’t have mattered to you if I did. So I merely used
other methods. I trust I can now count on your full cooperation with Nikolas?

Alexis is still reeling from the news. Never in her wildest dreams did she think
Helena would go after Ned’s family. How would she… How could she ever explain
this to Ned? And Helena would be sure he found out, too.

A: Yes. Yes, I’ll do… say… Yes.

H: Good. You will be receiving a fax. Memorize it. When Nikolas comes to see you
I expect the best performance of your life. For *their* lives.

Alexis hangs up and begins to cry. A.J. is walking past her door, hears her
crying, and enters the office.

A.J.: Alexis? Are you all right?

Alexis tries to regain her composure, but fails. A.J. crosses the room, and
pulls her out of her chair to hug her. He holds her while she cries, rubbing her
back soothingly. The fax machine springs to life, and startles Alexis.

A.J.: It’ll be O.K. Grandfather is calling every top surgeon in the country. We
just have to believe that they’ll be fine.

Alexis pulls away from him, and reaches for a Kleenex. She regains her business
like reserve.

A: Yes, you’re right. It’s just very upsetting. After Lulu Spencer’s death, and
now Brooklyn…

A.J.: I know what you mean. It doesn’t make sense when these things happen.
Especially to children. (Pausing) Come on; let’s get out of here. I’ll buy you
lunch.

A: I’m not very hungry. I don’t think I’d be very good company.

A.J.: Well, let’s get out of here anyway. And believe me, you’ll be much better
company than Grandfather will. He gets through these things by barking orders. I
don’t know about you, but *I’m* not in the mood to be on the receiving end of
those orders.

Alexis manages a smile, and walks over to the fax machine. She grabs the fax,
folds it in half, and then puts it in her pocket. She gets her purse and leaves
with A.J.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is Monday, late morning, in Venice, Italy. Katherine and Jerry are sitting at
a cafe table overlooking St. Mark’s square. There are many packages on the table
behind them and many empty plates on the table in front of them.
J: Well, I can see you’re taking the old adage “eating for two” seriously.
K: (smiling) Now that I’m not nauseous *all* daylong, yes. AND I’m eating for
*three*.
J: True, but two out of three of you are only about two inches long. AND you are
supposed to eat six or so *small* meals a day.
Katherine gives him a dirty look. Jerry looks out at the people feeding the
pigeons in the plaza and takes a sip of his drink.
J: (venturing) I take it you had another dream about *him* last night.
She looks at him puzzled. He sets his glass down, and stares at the ice.
J: Well, you were calling out his name… and moaning. I take it the two of you
weren’t being chased by his mother-the-robot this time.
K: (smiling) No, his mother was no where to be found. Neither was Laura.
(Pausing to take a drink) It was a good dream. We were together, and we were
happy. (Sighs deeply)
J: You know if I were a normal husband I’d be upset that you were dreaming of
making love to another man, while sleeping next to me.
K: (laughing) YOU are anything *but* a normal husband.
J: (suddenly) Would you still go back to him?
K: (thoughtfully) If I could look into his eyes and see that he was over *her*,
AND I thought it would be safe for the babies… Yes I think I would.
She suddenly realizes Jerry looks dispirited. Her mood turns to one of
compassion, and she looks at Jerry as if to remind him.
K: (softly) I never promised you I wouldn’t. Jerry, if this is getting too hard
on you, and you want to stop… I’ll understand. You’ve gone above and beyond the
call of friendship.
J:  (softly) I know you never promised. (Regaining his chipper composure) And
what kind of friend would leave a pregnant woman in her time of need, huh?
Certainly NOT Superman.
She takes his hand and rubs it reassuringly. They both smile. He looks at his
watch.
J: Well, I have to get to my meeting. I’ll see you tonight.
He stands up, steps over to her, leans down, and plants a kiss on her cheek.
Before he can stand up, she takes his face in her hands, and looks into his eyes
with gratitude. She pulls him close and kisses him sweetly. He slowly rights
himself, then looks at the table full of packages and shakes his head and
smiles.
J: Well, I’m sure the shopkeepers will wish they hadn’t invented “riposo”.
They’re going to lose money.
K: What’s “riposo”?
J: It’s when all the shops in Italy close for a three hour lunch break.
K: (panicked) You’re kidding, right? (Looking at her watch) When does it start?
J: No, Lois, I’m quite serious. It starts in about an hour. It’s just as well.
You need to take a nap anyway.
K: I’m not tired. (Sitting up straighter and inhaling deeply) Shopping revives
me.
J: Nevertheless, the shops will be closed, so you might as well take a nap.
Let’s not forget that the doctor was dead set against us traveling by plane to
get here in the first place. And this is one of your good days. Usually…
K: (disheartened) Yeah, yeah, yeah.
J: Take a nap, then when my meeting is done, the shops will have reopened. We’ll
go get something to eat and do some more shopping. I know of this wonderful shop
on the Isle of Murano…
K: All right, you’ve convinced me. But I’m going to sit here for a little while
longer, then hit as many stores as possible before riposo. THEN I’ll take a nap.
Jerry leans over and plants another kiss on her cheek.
J: (with a husky, sexy Italian accent) Ciao, mia bella moglie.
K: (smiling and wrinkling her nose) Ciao, mio brutto marito.
He walks away laughing as another plate-sized pizza is delivered. Katherine
looks at it and sighs in defeat. She pats her belly.
K: Mia dispiaci bambini. Basta. Mama just can’t eat another bite.
The bus boy starts to clear the other dishes away. Katherine studies this thin,
brown-haired teenager, with dark circles under his eyes. Suddenly a look of
recognition crosses Katherine’s face.
K: Lucky? Lucky Spencer?
A terrified Lucky meets Katherine’s gaze. He feels as if he should run away, but
is frozen to the spot.
K: What are you doing here? Oh, don’t tell me… You’re parents sent you here for
a “European” experience this summer. Did you come with friends?
Lucky isn’t sure if Katherine is stringing him along, or if she is actually
unaware of the events that happened on the 4th of July.
L: (suspiciously) No. No, I didn’t come with friends. How long have you been
here?
K: (happily) Well, Jerry and I left Port Charles right after the fireworks were
over on the 4th. We flew into Paris, and have been traveling all over. Sort of a
working honeymoon for both of us. We’ve only been here since this morning.
Lucky studied Katherine’s face for any sign of disingenuousness, but was pretty
sure that she wasn’t aware of what happened. Because of his years of Spencers-
on-the-road training, his guard was up, though.
K: You look awful. Here (pulling out a chair) sit down.
L: (nervously) I can’t. I’ll get fired, and I really need this job.
K: Nonsense.
She stands up and guides a reluctant Lucky into the chair. Katherine returns to
her seat, then studies his face closely.
K: You look thin… And the bags under your eyes… I’ve seen smaller saddlebags on
a horse. When was the last time you slept or had a decent meal? (Shoving the
pizza in front of him) Eat this.
L: (vindictively) Unlike you… I have to work to get my meals. And if I get
fired, I won’t eat. So why don’t you let me get back to my job? And you can get
back to… whatever.
Katherine smiles to herself thinking the apple didn’t fall far from the tree,
and doesn’t take his words to heart. She figures it’s the lack of sleep and
hunger that are making him cranky. She knows how hunger can make a person
cranky. So does Jerry. Jerry has experienced her hunger-induced crankiness quite
often these days.
K: If you get fired, I’ll hire you. Now eat.
Lucky realizes that she won’t let him alone until he does what she wants, sighs
in defeat, then cuts a section of pizza and begins to eat. He tries not to gulp
it as if he hasn’t eaten in days, which he hasn’t.
K: So tell me, what happened? Are Youth Hostile beds *that* uncomfortable?
Lucky looks at Katherine and decides, since she seems to think his parents sent
him here for vacation, he can tell her what happened with only a few
modifications.
L: (between bites) Well, I’ve been traveling around… like you said… staying in
Youth Hostels, and all. When I got here, some Gypsies stole my wallet. They got
all of my money.
K: They didn’t get your passport, did they?
L: No. I keep that in a separate place. But to sleep in at a Youth Hostile you
still need a little money. I didn’t have it, so I’ve been sleeping anyplace that
the police won’t bother me. I just got this job this morning.
The waiter returns and scowls at Lucky. Katherine sees this, and smiles sweetly
at the waiter. The waiter can’t help but smile back at her. Katherine has
noticed that, since their arrival in Italy, the men here are unable to say “no”
to a woman that smiles sweetly at them.
K: It’s O.K. I asked him to sit with me. (To Lucky) What would you like to
drink?
L: (mouth full) Coke.
She notices the now empty plate in front of Lucky. He looks slightly embarrassed
that he wolfed down his food so fast. He hadn’t eaten anything more than a few
scraps and stolen fruit for 5 days now.
K: Would you like something else to eat? You should try the bol… bol… Oh, It
looks like very fat spaghetti, with a spicy ground duck in cream sauce. It is
*wonderful*.
L: (looking guilty) I couldn’t.
K: He’ll have an order of that.
The waiter walks away muttering in Italian.
L: I think I *just* lost my job.
K: Don’t worry. I told you I’d hire you.
L: To do *what*?
K: Well, I’ll need help carrying my packages back to the hotel. AND I intend to
do more shopping.
Lucky cringes at the idea of being Katherine’s lackey, but he could use the
money. If his father was here… Lucky quickly shakes that thought from his head.
K: (suddenly) Oh, I have an idea. I could use you as a consultant.
L: (puzzled) A consultant?
K: (thinking) Yes. Yes, I was thinking about doing a campaign involving products
teenaged boys would be interested in. What do you say?
Lucky isn’t thrilled at the idea, but it seemed like easy money. And he would
need it, since he was planning to never return home again.
L: (reluctantly) O.K.
K: Wonderful! We’ll get started right after you finish eating.
The waiter arrives with Lucky’s food. Katherine smiles as she watches him eat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alexis has been dreading what she will have to do when Nikolas finally decides
to come to her. The lawyer in her has been tossing the whole issue about, trying
to find a reasonable way out of it. She hasn’t been able to think of any. She
tried to call Stefan, but he refused to speak with her. She hates the idea of
Nikolas going to Helena, but she doesn’t want Ned’s family to be harmed anymore
than they already have. She decided that when Nikolas does visit her, she will
think of him like a jury and Helena, as a client she knows is guilty, but must
convince the jury otherwise.

There is a knock on her door. She gets herself into “attorney” mode, then opens
the door. Nikolas is standing there, looking more tortured than she has ever
seen him.

A: Nikolas. Please, come in.

N: Thanks. I’m sorry to show up unannounced…

A: Oh, it’s fine. I’m glad to see you. Please accept my condolences. I haven’t
been able to stop thinking about you since I heard about Lulu’s accident.

N: Thank you. It’s been hard.

A: I wanted to send you a card, but there just aren’t the words.

N: It’s O.K.

A: Please, sit down. (They sit on the couch) Is there anything I can do for you?

N: Answers. I need answers.

He tells her about the conversation he over heard Stefan and Laura having. Then
about the conversation he had with Helena.

N: You and my uncle were always very close. Tell me, was he always in love with
her? Is Helena as bad as he has led me to believe?

Alexis takes a deep breath and does what she must.

A: Yes, your uncle was in love with Laura. He thought he was hiding his
feelings, but… He was jealous of Stavros. He always was, since we were children.
For some reason he felt inferior to him. So, when Stavros married your mother,
he felt that your father was somehow mocking him. Then when your mother left and
your father died, he took you away from Helena, and built this fantasy that your
mother would return for him. He told me about his feelings once, but when I
tried to reason with him be fell silent and we never discussed the issue again.

There are so many questions running through Nikolas’ mind that he can not stay
with one train of thought.

N: He said that Helena is a horrid person. She poisoned him, and all sorts of
stories of how she couldn’t be trusted. Is it… any of it… true?

Alexis is trying to stay ahead of Nikolas’ questions, and maintain her court-
room demeanor, so she can get through the disgusting lies she is being forced to
tell her beloved nephew.

A: He always felt that Helena didn’t love him. I’m sure that’s why he was
jealous of Stavros. Your grandmother and grandfather needed to spend more time
with Stavros to be sure he would be ready for the responsibility of heading the
family fortune. As you are well aware, that takes quite a bit of time. Stefan
grew to resent everything that Stavros had or would have. As for Helena not
loving Stefan… it wasn’t true, she did love him. The whole poisoning incident
was a misunderstanding.

N: How could her trying to kill him be a misunderstanding?

A: She didn’t *try* to poison him. He was ill, and she gave him medication that
the doctor prescribed, but Stefan was allergic to it. He became even more ill,
and in his fevered state, accused her of trying to kill him. Even when he became
well again, he refused to believe that it wasn’t her fault. After a while,
Helena gave up trying to win back Stefan’s affections. He saw that as proof that
she hated him.

N: But you told me stories about her, too.

A: I told you what Stefan wanted you to hear.

N: Why?

A: I have always loved and cared for Stefan. I have always loved and cared for
you. I thought that if I didn’t go along with his stories he wouldn’t let me see
you again. So I when he would tell you his stories I said nothing. I went as far
as to keep quiet when he would do terrible things to Helena.

Nikolas looks at her puzzled.

A: Like not letting her see you. Locking her away on that island, even when she
was ill. He convinced me that it was for the best. I wanted to believe him. I
had been away at college, so he persuaded me to believe that it was all for your
benefit. When really it was for his. So he could get close to Laura again.

N: Why this change of heart? Is Helena threatening you?

A: (earnestly) No. No. Spending eight months away from him helped to open my
eyes. I always tried to temper your uncle’s actions and deeds as much as I
could. I told myself he was doing it for you. For your sake.

N: And he was doing it just to get close to Laura, right?

A: All of his actions had two sides. It always worked out that whatever he did
for your sake, also worked to his advantage to get Laura into his life.

N: Did you know how obsessed he was with her?

A: Yes, I did. I tried to convince him that Laura loved her husband, and nothing
he did could change that. He refused to listen.

Alexis stands up and walks over to the fireplace. Nikolas remains seated. He is
trying to fathom what he has heard. She studies the flowers for a few moments,
then starts again.

A: What did your uncle tell you about last year, when he threw me out of the
family?

N: He said you felt Katherine wasn’t worthy of him, and that you created an
elaborate hoax to make him believe she was his long-lost half-sister. He said
you thought you were protecting him from Katherine.

A: (nodding) I never had the opportunity to explain my actions to you.

N: Go on.

A: After your mother was thought to be dead, and Stefan accidentally shot
Katherine… he transferred his obsession for your mother to her. I tried to make
him aware of this, but he wouldn’t listen. The only thing that held him back was
his marriage to Bobbie. Did you know that he set up a special computer to talk
with Katherine? That he sent Bobbie out of town so he could spend time with
Katherine? He wanted to give up everything to be alone with Katherine, just as
he had wanted to do with Laura. When his marriage to Bobbie failed, I knew I had
to do something to stop him. I’ll admit that Katherine was never one of my
favorite people, but I couldn’t let him hurt her like that.

N: What are you saying? Did you think he would hurt her physically?

A: (aghast) No! (Calmer) Not physically… emotionally. Can you imagine how awful
it would be to love someone, marry them, have children with them, and then find
out that the whole time he was really in love with someone else? That he was
trying to mold you into that person. Think of how humiliating that would be for
her, for anyone.

N: She caught him kissing Laura that’s why she left. (Hurting) She *was*
devastated.

A: Do you understand now, that I did what I did to protect Katherine from your
uncle, *not* the other way around?

N: Yeah.

A: I thought I had covered my tracks, but he found out. I was lucky to get away
with my life.

N: (with building anger and disgust) He used her. He used me, too. To get to my
mother. He used my sister’s illness as a way to get back into Laura’s life. He
has used me all my life.

A: (emotionally) I’m sure there were times…

N: (curtly) Don’t. Don’t bother to defend him. (Standing up) Thanks. You told me
what I’m not used to hearing - the truth. I would say that’s not a very
Cassadine thing to do, but I don’t think he ever really taught me what it is to
be a true Cassadine. I think I know someone who does though.

A: Helena.

N: Yes. Thank you for your time. I have to go now.

A: Please, come and see me anytime. I have missed you.

Nikolas nods his head, turns, walks to the door and leaves. Alexis’ whole body
begins to shake with deep sobs of regret for hurting Stefan and Nikolas, again.
All hope that she will ever get back into Stefan’s good graces have been erased
in a half-hour of lies. Sobbing, she runs to the bathroom, disrobes quickly,
turns the shower on, and gets in. She begins to scrub herself with the bar of
soap, hoping to wash away the dirty feeling she has.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jerry arrives at the hotel suite. As he enters the living area he can see the
room is full of shopping bags. He enters slowly, shaking his head and muttering.
Katherine enters from their bedroom and looks over at the couch. Jerry does the
same and sees Lucky, asleep.
J: (loudly) Oh, Lois, don’t tell me you…
K: (sternly) Shhhh. (whispering) Don’t tell you I what?
J: (quieter) Don’t tell me, that in a mad shopping craze before the stores
closed, you purchased a teenaged boy.
K: (mock defensively) Well, I had a coupon. Buy ten pairs of shoes… get a
teenaged boy for half price. It was a bah-gan.
J: (flatly) Ha, ha, ha. No, seriously… who is that?
K: Lucky Spencer.
Jerry looks puzzled for a minute.
J: The kid that crashed our reception?
K: Yes. I’ll tell you all about it as we go to find something to eat. (Grabbing
his arm) Let’s go. You’re late and I’m hungry.
J: (dragging his feet) You’re not going to leave him here *alone*, are you?
K: He’ll be fine. He’s sleeping. Oh, I should leave him a note.
Katherine walks over to the writing desk, gets paper and pen, and begins to
write. Jerry is staring at her incredulously.
J: What do you really know about him? What if he steals something?
K: He won’t. And if he did, it wouldn’t be anything we couldn’t replace. She
sets the note where Lucky will see it, then walks to the door, opening it. Jerry
is looking between a sleeping Lucky and an impatient and hungry Katherine. He
throws his hands up in defeat, and walks out the door.
