THE MYSTERY OF CRYSTAL LAKE
Part 5 - by Courtney

"I don't know why I'm surprised that you brought your laptop on vacation."
Alicia sighed as Shirley closed her laptop and reviewed the notes she had been writing.

"I don't know either," Shirley replied. Alicia plunked down on the bed beside Shirley.

"So, what did you find about Antonio? Our aformentioned, friend. The word friend used sarcastically." Alicia smiled, Shirley gave her a look.

"Well, Antonio is leading a life of lies." Shirley said.

"Like what lies?"

"Well, Lana said that Antonio was an immigrant who was in dire need of a job to support his family. Antonio's family is in Mexico, he hasn't been married. I asked Lana why he was so eager to work here and she said to support his growing family. The only family that Antonio DOES have is his brother Marco. After a fight about something, Marco left. He's been missing for over a year. So, in other words Antonio lied so he could have money to have somewhere to live. All caretakers get a house here, with the rule that no one is to live with them. But what I don't understand is why he would put his job in jeopardy."

"Well... Lana Crystal is all uptight about lawsuits, right?  I mean, maybe she's plotting all these accidents that have been happening, my fall, the ski accident you almost had, etc., so that she can sue Antonio for trying to ruin her. Like, job neglect." Alicia said. Shirley gasped.

"Alicia! That's brilliant! But Lana doesn't HAVE any money to lose!"
Shirley sighed. Alicia raised her eyebrows.

"Do you know that for sure?" She asked.

"Well, no but...." Shirley began.

"I'm surprised at you Holmes! She's probably part of Crystal Banks, right?
So hack in a check out if she has money troubles!" Alicia pulled out a file and began to work on her nails. Shirley pulled out her laptop, and after about fifteen or so minutes of typing she shrieked happily.

"Alicia you're very good. It seems Ms. Crystal is up to her forehead in debt and verging on bankruptsy." Shirley declared, "But wouldn't sueing Antonio be a big risk. I mean these all could be accidents.... wait wait wait!" Shirley began typing wildly on her computer again.

"Ah-ha!" Shirley said, like a true Holmes.

"What is it?" Alicia asked, pulling out a bottle of nailpolish.

"I hacked into the files for the lodge and it seems that we're not the only ones running into bad luck. Several visitors have not only had ridiculous bouts of bad luck, they seem to check out soon after. I have a feeling that- Well, remember what Bart was talking about?  On a full moon, the ghost of Crystal Lake appears only after continual bad luck among others.
Well, the full moon is tomorrow and I think these superstitous people got freaked and left. BUT, what's Lana's motive besides bankruptcy. With all the people here in a WEEK she could get these bills paid in at least a year."

Alicia shrugged, "Impatience? Anyway, you keep concerning yourself over this because I have a date with Carson."

"Good for you." Shirley smiled.

"So anyway, I must go, but don't fret darling, I will be back before curfew. Don't wait up." Alicia scooted out the door.

"I'll try not to," Shirley chuckled, picking up her laptop, and then put it down, deciding it would be better to consult with her partner rather then to consult with her laptop, who came into a close second. Putting on her coat and boots, Shirley left her cabin and walked to Bo's. She knocked on the door, Bo answered it. He smiled when he saw Shirley.

"Can we go to the lodge?" He asked before Shirley could say anything,
"Parker scares me."

Shirley laughed, "Where is he?"

"He locked himself in the bathroom, saying that he wouldn't come out until we left. Why, I don't know, but I think it has something to do with the ghost of Crystal Lake Lodge or whatever." Bo said.

Shirley looked at Bo.

"What? What did I do or say now? You're giving me a look. Not the shut up look, this is a whole different look, and I personally don't like it....You're breaking up with me, aren't you?" Bo asked suddenly, giving her a look.

"No! No! No no no! I just wanted to tell you what I found out about Antonio." Shirley said, trying not to laugh, she explained the situation.

"Well, I know what we should do," Bo said, "We should go to Lana's office and be nosey. Look around and such. For information." Bo said, clearing his
throat.

"Ingenious idea, Bo," Shirley said as they walked up to Lana's office,
Shirley was about to open the door when Bo took her shoulder.

"Wait. Shh. Someone's in there." Bo cautioned, they both pressed their ears to the door and heard Lana's voice and someone elses.

"Don't..... someone will see...." Lana giggled.

"I don't care...." A man's voice said.

"Well I do," Lana's voice grew stiff, "For now you can ravage me with your EYES."

The man chuckled, and then began to sing,
"I see heaven when I see thee Dulcinea, now I've found thee and the world shall know thy glory!!! Dulcinea, Dulcinea.........."

Lana giggled.
"I love Man of La Mancha. Maybe when I finish paying off the debts, we can go see it... somewhere. You do have everything set don't you? I can't wait another day. The bank wants their money by the month's end. Can we go to court and-"

The man's voice shushed her.

"Silencio, my chequita! You have no worries! All will be done by the end of the month, in fact before that. Just as long as you leave it up to me.
I need my revenge. It is a dish best served cold, give it a day or two."

"Alright, alright alright," Lana agreed reluctantly, "But-" The voice interrupted her again.

"Be silent. Now where were we before we had this discussion? Oh yes, you were saying, 'Don't, someone will see....'"

Bo moved his ear away from the door.

"Okay, we've heard enough." He said. Shirley and Bo walked away from the office.

"So who was the guy?" Bo asked, as they made their way towards Shirley's cabin. Shirley thought.

"What I could distinguish about him, from his voice, was that he was Spanish. Especially when he said silencio and chequita. But the only Spanish person here is Antonio. And there's obviously a steamy relationship from what I could hear from behind that door." Shirley said.

"Yeah but there is no other Spanish gu-" Bo stopped as he looked in Shirley's cabin. The door was ajar. The cabin was trashed. Alicia's nailpolish was broken onto the hard wood, the matresses from the bed were on the floor.

'Look." Bo looked at the wall, scrawled in big bright red lipstick were the words: SEE NO EVIL.

"What's that mean?" Bo asked.

"I think we've had a visitor from our ghost. Lodge files record that this isn't first time. See no evil, as in You can't see the ghost, but from what this says, he's obviously evil right? See no evil... that's like see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Well anyway, it's a commonly used phrase." Shirley said.

"I guess we should go report your break in?" Bo asked.

"I guess we should." Shirley sighed, looking around one more time.
