The Case of the Disappeared Wallet - Part 5
By Cristiano
Next morning at school Bo asked Shirley:
"So, has your neighbour confessed?"
"He isn't our man, Bo" Shirley anwered, looking into his eyes.
"Really?! - Bo replied surprised - then who's the thief?"
"It's you!"
"Me?!"
"Yeah, you are the thief" Shirley replied.
"Shirl, I'm your best friend and boyfriend - Bo said - how could
I steal your dad's wallet?"
"I don't know the why - Shirley anwered sadly - and I would be
happier if you would explain it to me."
"Okay - Bo said, beginning to cry - but first tell me how you figured
it out, please!"
Shirley breathed on and said:
"You revealed it twice. The first time, when I told you dad didn't
find his wallet, you told me "Heaven knows who stole it",
but you couldn't have known that the wallet had been stolen.
The second time was when you told me "$5,000 is a lot of money!"
because I never told you how much money was inside the wallet.
And now, explain to me your reasons. I hope they're good!"
Bo began:
"Some guys blackmailed me. They say if I don't give them $500 per
day, they will set fire to my home. I'm afraid, so I give them the money.
That day I
had given them my last $500 and I was very worried about it. When
I saw your dad's wallet hanging from his coat pocket, I took it and when
I went out, I took out the money and threw the wallet into your
neighbour's garden."
"I see - Shirley replied - but you could've spoken about it with
me, couldn't you?"
"I told you - Bo answered - I was too afraid! And now? Will you
tell it to anybody?"
"I don't know" Shirley said. "Don't do it, please" Bo replied desperately.
"Okay. I promise. But Mr. Kant can't stay in prison. He's not a
thief." Shirley finished her lunch and went back to class.
