Secret Extra-Curricular Activities

By Nadine Maraldo

This fanfic takes place after I Spy when Maggie tells PJ that she's given up on her studies because of her work commitments.

Maggie has been thinking a lot about why she gave up on her law degree.

After three months she realised that criminology wasn't the area she wanted to go into so she decides to apply for a psychology degree instead. She
doesn't tell anyone at work especially PJ because she thinks he'd probably bring up what happened last time concerning Roman.

In the middle of January, Maggie gets a letter to say she's been accepted in Bachelor of Psychology at Monash University. She's required to go and
enrol at Monash Uni on the 1st Friday in February and that is when she will find out when her classes are on and what textbooks she will need for the
course.

So the 1st Friday comes around and she gets the necessary information. She has enrolled to do the course part time which means it will take her 6
years instead of the normal 3 years full-time. But with her police experience and the subjects she covered in her law course she may get some
exemptions, which means she would finish earlier than 6 years.

She finds out that she has two subjects to do in 1st semester including Psychology. Psychology lecture is on Monday nights and the tutorials are on
Wed nights, which means she will have to organise her shifts so she doesn't work on Mon and Wed nights.

Due to the roster, she had to tell Tom about the course and not being able to work on Mon and Wed nights, she also asked him not to tell anyone. He
told her he respected her privacy and wished her good luck.

The 1st night has come and she finds that she has a lecture at 7-9pm, so she leaves work at 3pm (time her shift finishes) and starts her two hour
journey to Melbourne to attend her pyschology lecture.

It takes her around 10 minutes to find her lecture room, G-113, since the Uni is pretty big you can get lost easily.

Maggie goes into the lecture room and there are already a few people there when she enters around 6.30pm. She finds a place to sit for the lecture
and takes out a notepad and her pen. A lady comes and sits next to Maggie, she introduces herself as Luise. They start talking and they find out they
have something both in common they are in the police force. Luise, is a constable at St Kilda and knows Pat Doyle and said it was excellent to know
his daughter.

Maggie thinks its a relief to know someone in her lecture.

After the lecture, she is tired and starts her journey back to Mt Thomas.

Everything at work is going ok, her and PJ are still working together, but Maggie still wonders if she made the right decision concerning their
relationship.

Wed night comes along and the same process down to Melbourne again for her tutorial, this time it is at 7.30-8.30pm.

She finds her tutorial class and realises that Luise isn't in her class, which means she'll have to find another person to study with. She is sitting by
herself and the class of 15 start to esemble.

Maggie starts reading her notes from the lecture, so she'll have an idea what would be covered in that night's tutorial.

When Maggie is reading her notes, a man sits next to her Maggie doesn't look up to introduce herself because she's too busy going through the
notes. When she does finally look up (about two minutes before the start of the tutorial class) she looks to see who is sitting next to her to introduce
herself. She is shocked to find that the man sitting next to her is P.J. He smiles to her and says, "Hi Mags!"

Maggie: What are you doing here?

PJ: You really think you could get away with this without telling
          anyone except the boss?

Maggie: I could kill him. Did he tell you?

PJ: Well actually no, remember I'm a detective!

Maggie: Well, I sort of already knew that.

PJ: The reason I'm here is not because the boss told me because he
          didn't.

Maggie: Then how did you find out?

PJ: Well, you leaving work early on Wed Nights sort of gave it away
to start with. But that wasn't how i found out...

Maggie: Then God dammit tell me how did you find out? (raising her
voice, and starting to get looks from people around her.)

PJ: Lower your voice, if you give me a minute I'll explain!

Before PJ had a chance to explain the teacher for the tutorial started the class. After the hour class was over PJ and Maggie left the classroom.

Maggie had been anxious since she saw PJ sitting next to her in the tutorial to find out why he was there.

When Maggie and PJ had got to the carpark, Maggie couldn't take it anymore.

Maggie: Now, are you going to tell me why the hell you were here?

PJ: Calm down. (sensing a fight could be coming on) Just give me
          to explain.

Maggie: Alright you've got a minute before I get into my car and leave
to go back to Mount Thomas.

PJ: Do you want me to tell you here or do you want to go the Imperial
and we can talk about it there?

Maggie: I just want to know the truth. Your choice.

PJ: I'll tell you here then.

Maggie: OK, just hurry up it's been a long day.

PJ: You're telling me that. Anyway, for the last two years (since
beginning of 1995), I have been undertaking Bachelor of Psychology
          (Part Time) at Monash University.

Maggie: Since 1995, why didn't you tell me?

PJ: Because I knew you had been doing your law course and didn't think
you'd want any tutoring from me so I didn't tell you about it.

Maggie: Still why didn't you tell me that you were taking the course?

PJ: Because I thought you'd think it was stupid that someone my age
          was doing a psychology course.

Maggie: Not at all.

PJ: So what course are you doing here?

Maggie: (laughing) Bachelor of Psychology.

PJ: Cool, we'll be doing the same thing.

Maggie: That's pretty ironic.

PJ: Why?

Maggie: Because I was trying to hide from everyone that I was back at
          Uni again.

PJ: Well you can still hide it, from everyone except me.

Maggie: Yeah I suppose promise you won't leak out that I'm back at uni?

PJ: Nope, because you have to promise me something.

Maggie: What?

PJ: That you don't tell anyone that I'm at Uni.

Maggie: Deal.

PJ: Now, what do you say about heading back to Mount Thomas.

Maggie: I think that's a great idea.

Maggie and PJ get into their cars and head back to Mount Thomas.

The next day at the office they are talking alone in PJ's Office.

PJ: So, Mags you ok about us doing the same course?

Maggie: Yep no problem at all.

PJ: Why don't we take one car to uni instead of the two, we'll
          save money that way.

Maggie: I've got an idea, we'll take your car to the lectures on
Monday and on Wednesday we'll take my car to the tutorials.

PJ: Great, since that's all settled we'll have to organise
          something about studying together.

Maggie: Wait a sec, studying together?

PJ: Yeah well two heads are better than one remember.

Maggie: Yeah but..?

PJ: But what Maggie? We're friends aren't we?

Maggie: Best friends, always will be.

PJ: Then what's the problem with working and studying together.

Maggie: (thinks about it) Nothing I guess.

PJ: We'll organise something then maybe Sat nights will be study
          night at my house.

Maggie: Won't it look suspicious that we'll be together on Saturday
          nights?

PJ: What's so different about that. We're always together, plus it
will be interesting to see what rumours start spreading again.

Maggie: I suppose so.

PJ: OK, let's get back to work.

So PJ and Maggie decide to study together on Saturday nights and go together to Uni.

After a few weeks everyone is going fine and then their first exam comes by. Maggie goes well in it and gets a distinction while PJ gets a credit. They
both agreed though there would be no rivalry between them concerning marks and they're main objective was to pass the course.

It came to the week before the final exam and they were doing their usual studying on the Saturday night at PJ's house. But there was something
different about it that night. The topic they were covering was to do with relationships - the type of person they are.

PJ was a Introvert, Intuitive, Feeling Judging while Maggie was a Introvert, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceptive person.

When they looked on the chart to see what kind of person they would best work with they discovered that they were paired to each other.

PJ: Now isn't that a coincidence?

Maggie: Why do you say that?

PJ: Well we work well together and are best of friends.

Maggie: Yeah...

PJ: And now this test is telling us we're compatible.

Maggie: Yeah it is a coincidence. What are you getting at PJ?

PJ: Maggie I, um, I can't do this anymore.

Maggie: PJ do what? This test?

PJ: This test, everything, us.

Maggie: Us, what does us got to do with this test?

PJ: Are you blind Maggie?

Maggie: No (hurt by what he said)

PJ: I'm sorry I didn't mean that. What I was trying to say was
ever since you were posted to Mount Thomas I've had feeling for
you, and then in the goldmine last April I finally admitted how
I felt. It took me years to tell you how I felt. When I did
you just wanted to be friends. Now how do you think that made
          me feel?

Maggie: I didn't know you felt that way.

PJ: Of course you knew you just didn't want to see it.

Maggie: Ok I didn't want to see it, I love you PJ.

PJ: I love you too Mags.

Maggie: That's the 1st time I've heard you say that to me.

PJ: No better time than the present. What do you say about getting
          something to eat?

Maggie: I've got a better idea.

PJ: A better idea than food?

Maggie leaned forward and kissed PJ lightly, the kiss then became more passionate like the one they shared in the goldmine. PJ slowly lead Maggie
to his bedroom and they let out the energy which had built up since the goldmine.

The next week they had their exams and both passed with flying colours, Maggie getting a high distinction and PJ getting a distinction.

PJ left the force after he finished the course and taught psychology in the local university while Maggie was still in the force. They eventually got
married and had two children.
