A CHRISTMAS ROMANCE

Second Part of 1997 Season Finale "POSSESSION." 



Maggie stood silently as she looked at the small box in her hand that PJ had just 
given her. She slowly untied the ribbon and took off the wrapping. She looked up at
PJ who had a very large smile over his face. As she slowly opened the box her mouth 
dropped with astonishment, as she saw what the small box contained, it was a
gold ring that had six small diamonds in it, "I, I don't know what to say," said the 
truly amazed Maggie Doyle. "Ah how about thanks!" commented PJ, "It's beautiful,"
she added. The smile on her face grew bigger as did PJ's as she read what was engraved 
on the inside of the ring:  "For Maggie, with love forever, PJ." 

(PJ, now sitting on the side of his desk,) Maggie lovingly looked down into PJ's deep, 
relaxed blue eyes, as he slipped his arms around her waist, pulled her close
and kissed her, "Hey," Maggie interrupted "You know we can't do this here," "You're 
right," PJ added, "Let's go!" "We can't exactly do that either," giggled Maggie,
"Come over my place tonight at about 7:30pm for dinner and your Christmas present," 
she suggested. "Ooh how intriguing" chuckled PJ. 

"Maggs, come on, we're all leaving for the pub," yelled the enthusiastic Dash McKinley, 
"Ah actually Dash I was sort of thinking of going to bed early tonight,"
replied Maggie, "Ok then I'll probably see you tonight or tomorrow morning�.. Bye,'' 
Dash yelled back as she was exiting the station. 
  
Later that night at about seven o'clock PJ managed to get away from the rest of the 
lively coppers at the pub, but before leaving he went up to Chris, who could tell
that there was something going on because of the fact that PJ looked so genuinely 
happy. "So where's Maggs tonight?" said the red head publican, "She, ah wanted
to get an early night," replied PJ. Chris nodded as a sign of understanding mixed 
with disbelief. "Give us a bottle of your best red wine will ya Chrissy." "Sure, but ah
who's the lucky girl hey Peej," said Chris getting a bit suspicious, the red blush 
crept across PJ's face and it gave him away even more, but he just handed her the
money and said goodnight. 

The next stop was PJ's house to quickly get changed, but then he went straight to 
Maggie's house for a nice evening meal, and a Christmas present. 


When he arrived he stood on the doorstep and waited to be invited in, when he was he 
handed the bottle to Maggie and followed her into the kitchen where he saw
a casserole cooking in the oven, "Mmm dinner looks good,�..but not nearly as good as 
you," he teased. "You don't scrub up so bad yourself," she replied. 
  
Later that night at about 11 o'clock Dash came home and saw PJ's car in the driveway, 
but didn't take much notice of it. When she went inside, there was nobody in
sight, and then she saw that Maggie had left her out some dinner she decided against 
it, as she had already eaten earlier at the pub. Instead she sat down on the
couch to watch the TV. When this proved unsuccessful, because there wasn't much on, 
she decided to go to bed. 

The next morning she woke up at the early time of five o'clock, as both Maggie and 
herself were on the early shift, but Maggie wasn't up yet so she decided that she
would get in the shower before Maggie got up and tried to steal it from her. Once 
she'd finished her shower and had breakfast she decided that it was about time
that she got Maggie up and out of bed. She walked down the hall to Maggie's room 
and just as she was about to knock on the door, it was opened by the tired
looking PJ Hasham, who almost walked into her, "Oh G'Day Dash, what time is it?" 
"Ah it's a quarter to six," said the shocked constable. PJ proceed to the kitchen
where he made two cups of coffee then returned to the bedroom. About five minutes 
later he came out again, but this time he left the house. 

As soon as PJ left Maggie came out of her room and went straight to the shower. Dash 
decided to stick around so that she could play twenty questions with her
room-mate. When Maggie came out of the bathroom, looking very refreshed and happy 
Dash couldn't help but smile at how glowing Maggie was. "So much for that
early night you wanted to get hey Maggs!" teased Dash, "Who said I didn't get it," 
Maggie teased back, "I said I was going to bed early, not that I was going to sleep
early," she said with a cheeky grin. 
  
 "Oh and Dash, you're the only one that knows about this, Ok so don't go telling 
everyone," said Maggie. "Hey have I ever been known to tell a secret?!" said Dash
laughing. 

 Throughout the day Dash kept flashing smiles at Maggie, especially when she noticed 
that the two of them (PJ and Maggie) were alone in PJ's office. 

 "Doyle, PJ, my office please," said Tom Croyden. PJ and Maggie looked at each other, 
then they both turned to Dash as if looking for answers, but Dash just
shrugged her shoulders in innocence. 

 "Yes boss," PJ said as the two of the entered Tom's office, "What's up," added Maggie. 
"Well, it's about that time of the year that I give out leave, I picked Maggie
because she hasn't had time off around Christmas for a long time and well PJ because the 
two of you have always had time off together, so I decided to keep things
the same."As they came out of his of his office Maggie went to her desk and PJ went to 
his office. 

About five minutes later PJ came back out and said, "Maggs, can I see you in my office 
please." Once inside he said "So Maggs where do you want to go on this
holiday of ours," "Holiday of ours?!?, what makes you think I want to go on holidays 
with you!!" PJ's jaw dropped as he saw how serious she was, "But I, I, thought
we'd go away together," "Yeah well you thought wrong," snapped Maggie. 

PJ's heart sank as he looked down to the floor and said, "Ok, if you feel that way, 
but it's a pity, because with three weeks off, and enough holiday money, we could
have gone to Europe." "Well, save your money, because I have already booked a cruise 
for the two of us. Oh yeah�..this is your real present!" PJ looked up, "You
really had me fooled, you really made me think that you didn't want me to go with you, 
and that you didn't want anything to do with me anymore!" "Hey, you know
how I feel about you, I'd never do that to you." "Well I'm just going to have to get 
you back aren't I," said PJ chasing her around the desk. "GOTCHA" he yelled in
victory as he grabbed her waist, at the same time she let out a shriek of happiness, - 
before getting out of his locked arms and running to the other side of the room.
At that precise moment Adam and Nick burst through the door yelling, "What's wrong, 
What's wrong!!" "Nothing," PJ said "Maggs just saw a spider, that's all."
(Dash arrives at the door) "That's not like Maggie to be scared of a little spider, 
is it now!!," Dash commented with an extremely cheeky grin on her face. "Oh get out
will you!," said PJ and Maggie in chorus. They decide that they better keep it down 
so they just sat down and planned their romantic holiday.
