KEEPING IT QUIET By Anna It was News Years Eve and Chris was holding a fund-raising night at The Imperial for Clancys Half Way house. The reason for the fund-raising event is that Leonie, who is Clancys fianc and Chris Niece is expecting her first child and due to lack of space they need to renovate. At this time Maggie and PJ are together, but they decided to keep it quite. Some of the people who crowed the front room were all members of the Mt. Thomas Police, all the people who live at the half way house and some of their relatives, and even some of Rays Uni.-mates she has invited. Each person had to pay $100 for each ticket and this included food, drinks, music and much more so it worked to be reasonably cheep. The night was going well, everyone was enjoying them selves as they danced, ate and drank. The only two problems were that Nick wouldnt come out off the mens toilets as Dr. Zoe Hamilton was there with that look in her eyes and PJ refused to dance. Eventually PJ went into the toilets to speak to Nick to convince him to come of hiding and to get away from Maggies nagging. PJ: What are you doing in here? Nick: The atmosphere out there isnt that great PJ: And in heres better? Nick: I wouldnt say that, but its a place where she cant get to me? PJ: She being Zoe Nick: No, Maggie? PJ: Very funny? Nick: Why are you in here anyway? Shouldnt you be out there with, um, Margaret? PJ: Maggie? Why? Nick: Come off it, you told me all about it last night PJ: What? (With a worried and RED look on his face) Nick: No, you didnt. I just wanted to see your reaction, which I now have seen. Ive never seen you go as red as that. PJ: I get you for this! Nick: So what is going on between you two? PJ: Were just friends, like always Nick: Ill believe that when I see it PJ: Nick! Nick: Com on mate. Just tell me the truth, its not as if I cant jump to my own conclusion, like we all have. PJ: All? At this, Adam walked in and PJ left. As the door shut Nick gave Adam a look Good Timing Mate with Adams reply What have I done? Out side, as PJ finally found Maggie in the crowed room just before everyone suddenly turned to the TV. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 everyone yelled. Happy New Year PJ Maggie said as she gave him a light kiss on the cheek Happy New Year Maggs, may I have offer you your first dance of 1998? he replied. I thought you wont the dancing type? Maggie said before PJ led Maggie to the dance floor. As the two of them dance they softly said a few words into each others ears, most of which went in one ear and out the other. The only words that PJ caught were Do you want to get of here? with his reply being My place or yours? before they quickly got their coats and went back to PJs House. That morning, around 4am PJ got a call from Chris. This also woke Maggie, who was laying in PJ arms. When PJ put the phone down he told Maggie that they was a break in at the pub so they both got up, dressed and drove down to The Imperial. When the they arrived Chirs quickly asked Maggie what she was doing there, wearing the same clothes as the night before but Maggie didnt answer the question. Before Chris had time to ask again, PJ quickly asked her So when did you close up last night? and the conversation went on. In the end the decided to leave it, and wait till later that morning so Maggie and PJ returned to PJs house. They sat and talked till it was a reasonable time to ring and wake up Tom, Nick and Dash to start to investigate the robbery that took place the night before. As soon as everyone arrived at the station, Tom assigned jobs to everyone. PJ and Maggie were told to return to The Imperial and look around for finger prints. Dash and Adam were told to go and interview some of the patrons that they knew from the night before and Nick was told to notify the local banks in case they robber decided to be smart and bank the money. The day went on and no one had come up with anything that could help. It affected Tom the most as the money which was stolen was going to be used to help Clancy and Leonie, who he had helped in the past. At around 8pm , just had Tom was leaving a anonymous call came in. The Caller told Tom that the money he had taken was in black bag under war memorial so he quickly picked up the phone to get some backup, just in case. He rang Maggies House, but there was no answer so he thought that they were all down the pub so he rang Chris. After he did this he found out that PJ and Maggie were not at The Imperial so he rang PJs House where Maggie answered the phone. Maggie: Hello Tom: Maggie? Maggie: Boss? Tom: Yeah, um, I just got an anonymous call and the caller told me where the money supposedly is. Can you and PJ quickly come down to the station, ASAP? Maggie: Yeah, sorry They then both hanged up the phone and both reflected on what had just been said. Tom was wondering why Maggie was at PJs house and Maggie was very worried that Tom would jump to conclusions, the right ones. PJ, we got to get to the station Maggie yelled, snapping out her thoughts The Boss wants us there, ASAP! As they pulled into the station Tom jumped into the C.I car and told PJ to go to the War Memorial. On their way Tom filled them in on the rest of the story. When they got to the memorial they found the money exactly as the caller said, in a black bag under the memorial. The next day at the station PJ and Maggie found the mystery caller easily while Nick did the usual Patrols and Dash and Adam caught up on the paper work. The reason the Maggie and PJ found the caller who turned out to be John Williams easily was that is fingerprints were within the inner lining of the bag. As they both had nothing to do that after noon, they sat and talked within the C.I office. That night Tom, Nick, Adam, PJ and Dash came to the pub for the usual drinks and bite to eat. Within a half an hour PJ came up with the excuse I might get and early night tonight and left heading stright for Maggies house. When he arrived he was greeted by Maggie with a long kiss just in side the door. Maggie then led PJ into the lounge room where they both sat down, Maggie in PJs hands. They then watched a movie which was on the TV. When the movie had finished Maggie pushed PJ out the door sending him home, even though PJ was desperate to stay. About 4 days later Tom sat in his office dewing on the ends of the Glasses. Everyone could both sense that something was worrying him and their thoughts were confirmed when he surprisingly offered to collect the lunches. Chris: Why are you here? Tom: Lunches Chris: I thought you had people in lower ranks called Dash and Adam. Tom: What? Chris: Your miles away. Whats worrying you? Tom: Just, um, nothing. Chris: Com on. Something has to be. Some case Tom: Its just, well lets say a case of love. Chris: You mean Maggie and PJ? Tom: What how did you know? Chris: Come off it Tom. They way they look at each other and the pattern of them coming in here at night. PJ for half an hour one night, then Maggie the next for about the same time. Tom: Thats what Im worried about Chris: Why worry? Tom: Well, the force wouldnt like it for one and they cant really be, well together if there working together Chris: Why not? Just see how it pans out. Tom: I guess so Chris: And besides, Maggie wouldnt do anything to stuff up her career, PJ too for that matter. Tom: Yeah, I guess your right. Thanks for the lunches. Chris: No problems just think about it and dont go splitting them up or youll have me to deal with! Tom: Righto That night everyone came to the pub, including Maggie and PJ who ddnt stop looking at each other. After the ussual rounds PJ challenge Maggie to a game of pool which she excepted. The sweet thing about this game was that PJ let Maggie win which everyone noticed. Towards the end of the night Maggie left who was followed by PJ about 20 minutes later. He decided that he would pay Maggie a visit. When he got there he knocked on the door but there was no answer. He decided just to go and surprise Maggie as he had a key to the door. When he got in and reached Maggies room he found her asleep and as he didnt want to wake her up he softly tip toad out but his plan didnt work as Maggie softly said PJ?. He then turned backand said Yep, I just wanted to come and say good night properly, I didnt have a very good chance to at the Pub. He then gave her a quick kiss and left her to sleep. The next day Maggie and PJ were called into Toms office at the station. Maggie seemed worried about this but she and PJ that Tom was feeling approaching the topic which they thought was them, and there were right. By the end of the 20-minute conversation Maggies and PJ relationship was out in the open. They had also all agreed that Maggie and PJ would keep the relationship at work strictly professional and they could do what they wanted outside work. As usual everyone came to the pub that night but PJ and Maggie both turned up late, coming in together holding hands. Before they arrived Tom had filled everyone in on their relationship and everyone couldnt be been happier. They all had the ussual games of darts and pool, the one difference though was that PJ helped Maggie when it came to her shot even though if meant that he would loose a few of the games. A few weeks went by without anything-major happening until February 2nd when Monica Drapper arrived at the station, unexpectedly. Everyone wondered why she was there and they soon found out after Maggie was called into Toms office by Tom after Monica left. Maggie: Yeah Boss? Tom: Maggie, Monica came over to tell me about a new opening at Bendigo which, well you could have. It would mean youll be promoted to Senior Constable. Maggie: Oh, Bendigo. Tom: I thought that would be your reaction, you dont have to take it if you dont want to Maggie: Can I ask why I was offered the job? Tom: Well, you wont like it but she heard about you and PJ and she thought that you shouldnt be working together. But dont worry I set her straight and we agreed that you could stay at Mt. Thomas if you want to? Maggie: I knew this would happen (Tears running down from her face) Tom: Look, Maggie you dont have to take it if you dont want it. Just give it some thought. At that she left the room and went directly to the C.I office. PJ followed her in and as soon as he close the door she started to cry. PJ went to comfort her by giving her a hug and as she was in his arms she said They want to spilt us up! Then PJ took a step back and placed his hand firmly on Maggies shoulders, What?. Maggie then went on and explain to him what had happened in Toms Office. That night PJ and Maggie decided to stay at home, well to have dinner at Maggies and discuss weather Maggie was going to take the job. As the night went on it showed that Maggie was dead set against leaving Mt. Thomas. PJ also agreed with her, but he could see that it was a good opportunity for her, but Maggie wouldnt listen. The next day at the station Maggie dumped her bag in the locker room, signed her self in and then went straight into Toms office. In the office she told him that she wasnt compared to leave Mt. Thomas as she was very happy, especially now as she was with PJ. Tom was very pleased with her decision and told her that he didnt want her to leave anyway. Maggie was very relived by this. When she came out of the office she went to tell PJ who was over the moon about her decision, he showed it by giving her a long-deep kiss and a giant hug. The rest of that day was pretty quite, at about 3pm PJ went into Toms office to speak to him. Tom was surprised to see him and he asked What do you want PJ? PJ: I was just wondering if you will be giving out any leave soon? Tom: Ive been thinking about it, the times come around pretty quickly. PJ: Have you decided who yet? Tom: Not yet, do you want to take some time off? Tom: Ill see what I can do. When were you thinking of? PJ: When ever it suits you. T om: Well Ill see what I can do. Three days past without Tom saying anything to PJ. 4 days later Tom told PJ that they were able to take leave off at the end of February, which PJ said was fine. He then rang someone on the phone in his office and when Maggie came in he quickly finished the conversation and put down the phone before Maggie could hear anything. Two days after he got the information about the leave he invited Maggie over for tea. He knocked off an hour earlier then Maggie and on his way home he went to The Imperial where he bought a very expensive bottle of wine and played 20 questions with Chris. He then went by the travel agent and picked up his two tickets he ordered. After he set up the table with candles, cutlery and the usual plates he quickly popped back down to the shops to collect tea, take-away. He arrived home just as Maggie arrived, on time, 7:30 sharp. Maggie sat herself down at the table while PJ dished out the food. After he placed Maggies plate in front her he draped his arms over her shoulders and produced the tickets he had picked up earlier in front of her, Whats this? PJ: Open it and see Maggie: Come on, tell me! (Opening the envelope) PJ: Youll see (Maggie takes out ticket out of the envelope) Maggie: PJ, Cruise Tickets?(Unsure of what she has seen) PJ: You like it? Maggie: Like it? Love it, but we cant. PJ: Why cant we? Maggie: We dont have the leave. PJ: Yes we do Maggie: What? PJ: Ive cleared it with the boss Maggie: But how could you afford it? PJ: Never mind about that, will you come with me? Maggie: Of course I will PJ then went around to his seat and they both ate the tea PJ had bought. 3 weeks later they both borded a boat in Melbourne which was going to take them around the pacific islands for the next 10 days. The only problem was that within a day into their holiday PJ began to get sea sickness. THE END!!!!!!!
