Revelations (Part One)

By Nadine Maraldo

This fanfic is set between the episode "Possession" and the 1998 Season Premiere (when P/M return back to work).

PJ and Maggie have gone on a holiday to Port Macquarie which is on the North Coast on NSW. They both have two weeks off during the Christmas break and to
cover up that they're together, they tell the others at the station that they're spending Christmas with their respective parents, PJ with his mother and Maggie with her
father. The real truth is they will be spending it together. Their first Christmas together as a couple.

To make sure absolutely noone finds out, PJ goes to his mother's house in Melbourne and Maggie to her father's house and they stay with their parents for a day
then meet the next day (December 23) at Royal Botanic Gardens at 8am.

Maggie had gotten a taxi to the Gardens while PJ went with his car. PJ had been waiting for half an house and started to get worried that Maggie wouldn't turn up.
Finally when Maggie arrives, she pays the taxi driver and then proceeds to getting her luggage out of the taxi. PJ sees her and leaves his car and goes towards her.
Maggie is trying to get her luggage out of the boot of the taxi when suddenly someone puts 2 strong arms around her waist. Maggie screams and then she turns
around to find it's PJ, who stops the scream by giving her a long passionate kiss.

PJ: Good to see you too.

Maggie smiles.

Maggie: Can you help me with my luggage, please?

PJ: (smirks) No problem, my love.

Maggie: (seriously) My love? PJ what has come over you?

PJ: (smiles) What? Can't I say that to you. It's not my fault I'm a bit excited about the next two weeks, just me and you!

PJ leans forward and kisses Maggie.

PJ: C'mon let's go.

Maggie: (smiles) OK.

They get the three suitcases that Maggie has brought with her and head off towards PJ's car.

PJ: (jokingly) Mags, what did you do, pack for an army?

Maggie: No, I packed for 2 weeks in Port Macquarie. I just didn't know what the weather would be like, that's all.

PJ: I was just joking. (as he puts the last suitcase into the car) Ok, all packed now. Let's go!

PJ and Maggie get into the car and get ready for their long journey to Port Macquarie.

PJ: Ok, the last time I went to Port Macquarie I got a plane to Sydney then hired a rent-a-car and drove to Port Macquarie. This time I thought we'd

drive all the way up. Of course, it will take a long time to get up to Port Macquarie (or Port Mac as I call it) but I've got a surprise installed for you.

Maggie: What's the surprise, PJ?

PJ: Now, Doyley, if I told you what it was it wouldn't be a surprise or if I told you (smiles) I'd have to kill you.

Maggie: You know I hate surprises.

PJ: (sarcastically) Then why do you think I want to keep it a surprise?

So they start their long journey to Port Macquarie. PJ hasn't told Maggie but he plans to make a stop at Sydney for the night then arrive in Port Macquarie on
Christmas Eve, so they'll be there for Christmas Day.

They had been travelling for a few hours when they reach Nowra. They decide to get something to eat and refresh themselves up.

About half an hour later they get back on the road again.

They enjoy being around each other even though they work with each other you'd think they'd be sick of each other by the end of the work day. But it was the
complete opposite because they are happily in love.

Whilst driving from Nowra to Sydney they talk about everything from sport to work to how they plan to spend the time together at Port Macquarie.

Late into the night they arrive in Sydney and Maggie thinks they are just going to stop to get something to eat and refresh themselves then continue on their journey,
but PJ's got other plans. Maggie is surprised when PJ drives into Sheraton on the Park motel and that he's got reservations there for the night. PJ gets out of the car
and takes the luggage out of the boot and as a typical gentleman he goes and opens the car door for Maggie.

PJ: There you go.

Maggie: Thankyou. Can I ask what are we doing here?

PJ: Well, you have to sleep, I have to sleep, I thought we'd sleep.

Maggie: I thought I was going to sleep in the car.

PJ: Well, I can't drive all night and I need some sleep and rest too. Remember the slogan, "Stop Revive, Survive."

Maggie: Yeah, sorry I'm really tired. OK, I need some sleep or I'll be really cranky. (she sounds tired)

PJ: (sarcastically) You cranky, I'd like to see that.

Maggie: Oi, you watch it!

Pj: Oh, I'll be on my best behaviour, (being cheeky) I promise. Let's go.

They go and get their luggage and go to the reception area and book in and get the room 813. PJ has gotten the valet service to take care of his car whilst the porter
has taken care of their luggage.

PJ and Maggie walk hand in hand and make their way to the lift which takes them up to level 8 where their room is located.

They arrive to their room and straight away Maggie just collapses on the bed.

PJ remains standing.

PJ: Hey Mags, don't you want to get changed first?

Maggie: (tired) Yeah, whatever.

PJ goes towards Maggie and starts tickling her. This causes Maggie to open her eyes.

Maggie: PJ, please stop, PJ...

PJ: No, I'm not going to stop.

Maggie: Ok, then.

Maggie lifts her head up slightly and leans foward and kisses PJ lightly on the lips. The kiss takes PJ's mind off the tickling and he returns her kiss, but this time more
passionately. Each kiss becomes more intense and before it gets too intense Maggie suddenly stops.

PJ: (concerned) Maggie, what's wrong?

Maggie: Nothing.

PJ: Then, why did you stop?

Maggie: I know this sounds stupid but do you have..?

PJ: (finishes her question) Protection?

Maggie: Yes (she blushes).

PJ: It's not a stupid question it's better be safe then sorry.

Maggie: Good to see that we agree on something.

PJ: I'll be back in a minute (he gives her a quick kiss then heads towards the bathroom)

Maggie lays on the bed waiting for PJ to return.

By the time PJ comes back, Maggie is asleep. PJ puts a blanket over Maggie then mutters to himself, "So much for being safe."

He's sitting on the bed and is about to get up and go back into the bathroom when he feels two arms around him.

PJ turns around to find that Maggie isn't asleep after all, in fact, she's wide awake.

PJ: (smiles) You're pretending again?

Maggie: (grins) Yeah, well, I wanted to see your reaction.

PJ: Oh, really?

Maggie: So where were we?

PJ: Somewhere like this.

PJ leans forward and slowly kisses Maggie, she reciprocates the kiss and like before it gets more passionate. This time PJ's prepared and their kisses get deeper and
deeper. Whilst PJ is kissing Maggie he gently unbuttons her shirt and she pulls off his t-shirt and then within a matter of moments their bodies are molding together
like it is their first time of love making.

The next morning, PJ and Maggie depart the Sheraton on the Park and start the rest of their journey to Port Mac.

While driving PJ and Maggie start talking about Port Mac.

Maggie: PJ, can I ask you something?

PJ: Sure, fire away.

Maggie: Well, how did you hear of the place Port Mac?

PJ: Yeah, well um from a friend of mine.

Maggie: (curious) Which friend?

PJ: (defensively) Noone you know.

Maggie: An ex-girlfriend?

PJ doesn't say a word but Maggie's tone of her voice indicates furious in beckoning.

Maggie: You came here with an ex-girlfriend? I knew it. The reason you'd go up there was to get back with your ex-girlfriend. Well sorry, PJ, I'm not into any of that
stuff. Stop of the car.

PJ: (shocked) What?

Maggie: Stop the car PJ.

Pulls the car to the side of the road. He turns the engine off.

PJ turns to Maggie and puts his left hand on her shoulder.

Maggie shrugs off his hand.

Maggie: Get your hands off me. I don't know why I was thinking of going away with you, I knew I couldn't trust you.

PJ: (hurt by Maggie's last comment) Maggie, listen to me ok, just listen to me for a minute, before you decide to leave me.

Maggie just looks at him.

Maggie: Ok, I'll give you a minute.

PJ: Ok here goes. Yes, I've been to Port Mac before, a few years ago during the Christmas break. No not with an ex-girlfriend. I actually went up with Buzzer
remember Buzzer?

Maggie nods her head.

PJ: We went up there to relax. When we were up there we met some girls who were from Sydney (Maggie hears the word 'girls' and is now on the brink of crying).
But nothing happened, I swear nothing happened. The reason I wanted to bring you up to Port Mac was to relax. It can be platonic or romantic you have to decide
because you know what I think.

Maggie wants to ask what he thinks but PJ still has something else to tell her.

PJ: Since we got back together, I was trying to find a place to take you to for a few weeks to relax. Then I remembered Port Macquarie and thought it would be the
perect place. Now I have booked a room there. If you don't want to go with me, I can take you back to Sydney and I will pay for your airline ticket to go to
Melbourne. (pauses) I really really want you to to stay with me because (starts to quicken his speech up, nervously) I thought we had something going like what's
been happening between us for the last month.

Maggie puts her hand up to PJ's mouth.

Maggie: PJ, stop, please stop.

PJ: What?

Maggie: (crying) Stop it, you're not making this easy for me.

PJ: I've finished what I wanted to say anyway.

Maggie: Ok, then, start the car up and let's get this trip back on track.

PJ: What, you serious, I mean, are you sure?

Maggie: Yeah I believe what you said and by the way, I love you.

She leans forward and gives PJ a long tender kiss.

PJ: Let's save that for Port Macquarie.

Maggie: (smiles) Whatever you say detective.

PJ starts the car up again and they head for Port Mac. 5 1/2 hours later they enter Port Mac but only PJ knows where they'll be staying for the next two weeks.

He pulls up at Sails Resort knows as the best resort / accommodation in Port Mac.

PJ gets out of the car and like the Sheraton he helps Maggie out of the car and also gets their luggage. PJ goes to the reception area to confirm their arrival and he is
given the room he wanted, room 245 - Executive Suite. It includes reserved parking and an extended balcony which overlooks the Marina.

There is only one problem with Port Mac and they are the sandflies. Because it is near swamp the sandflies are attracted to this pretty coastal town.

PJ tells Maggie that whenever she leaves the room she'll have to spray Aeroguard on herself so she doesn't get bitten by the sandflies.

PJ and Maggie soon settle in after unpacking their stuff. They decide to relax on their first night which is Christmas Eve so they come to the agreement to watch the
Carols by Candelight on Channel 9. Halfway through the Carols a young handsome singer comes on called Hugh Jackman. Maggie does a double look and turns to
PJ (who's reading the booklet on Sails Resort and hasn't actually been watching the Carols).

Maggie: PJ, doesn't the guy singing now remind you of someone we know?

PJ looks up from the booklet.

PJ: (stunned) Oh my God, It's Brady Jackson.

Maggie: No, it's Hugh Jackman.

PJ: I swear it's Brady Jackson

Maggie: I know it looks like him but they said his name is Hugh Jackman.

Maggie pulls out the newspaper which has the bios of all the performers at the Carols.

Maggie reads from the newspaper.

Maggie: Hugh Jackman married to Deborra-Lee Furness has starred in tv shows including Correlli, Halifax F.P. and Blue Heelers.

PJ: What's Blue Heelers?

Maggie: Um, I don't know, I'll just look to see if it says anything, nope it doesn't.

Right at that moment on the television the presenter Ray Martin continues speaking, "You can next see Hugh on the hit tv show Blue Heelers which is the most
popular show in on the 7 network."

Maggie: Ok, we now know it's the no 1 program in Australia and it's on the 7 network.

PJ: Do you have the tv guide?

Maggie: Yeah it was in the newspaper today. OK, here it is.

PJ: Turn to Channel 7.

Maggie turns the tv guide to Channel 7.

Maggie: Ok, got it.

PJ: Now, look for Blue Heelers, it will have to be at night because it's the no 1 program.

Maggie: Ok, I'm looking, not on Thursday, hey there's a show on Thursday called ER. I think we'll have to watch that. I love medical dramas.

PJ: Yeah I love that show, I especially love the character Doug Ross.

Maggie: Why Doug Ross?

PJ: Because he's an ex-womaniser who finally went back to his long-time love Carol Hathaway (who's a nurse).

Maggie: Sounds familiar.

PJ: Yeah it does.

PJ leans in and kisses Maggie, everytime they kiss Maggie knows it will lead to the bedroom.

Maggie: PJ, we have to find out when (kiss) the program (kiss) Blue Heelers is on.

PJ: We can leave that to after..

Maggie kisses him then pulls away.

Maggie: No we'll find it now.

PJ: (frustated) OK.

Maggie continues to look in the tv guide and she finally finds it on Wednesday at 8.30pm.

Maggie: Ok, I've found it Wednesdays on Channel 7 at 8.30pm

PJ: Does it say what the episode is about?

Maggie: Yeah it says In the Gun. A family feud starts again and it will change one of the Blue Heelers lives forever.

PJ: Sounds familiar.

Maggie (looks up) Yeah it does.

PJ suddenly seems pre-occupied.

Maggie: You thinking about the Darcy case?

PJ: Oh yeah (looks at Maggie) How did you know?

Maggie: You get a look on your face everytime it is mentioned or something like it is mentioned.

PJ: Oh ok. Even though it happened 14 months ago I can't get the situation out of my mind. I know it's stupid (he puts his head down because he feels ashamed),
but.

Maggie looks straight at PJ, she lifts his head up so he's looking at her.

Maggie: PJ, look at me, look at me (he looks at her). It isn't stupid ok, I know I haven't experienced what you went through but I want to help you anyway I can I
love you and when you feel hurt, I feel hurt.

PJ: (surprised) Really?

Maggie: Yes I do. When you had your coronial inquest 13 months ago, remember what I said to you in your office?

PJ: Of course, I do. How could I forget. (smiles) You said, "I didn't want to think what it would be like around her without you. I don't want to lose you."

Maggie: (nods) Yeah that's what I said and I meant every word of it. You helped me with my situation with Robbie and I hope I helped you with the Darcy situation.

PJ: (smiles) You did, thankyou and I (he can't bring himself to say it).

Maggie: I know you do (smiles).

Maggie leans forward and gently kisses PJ. They slowly make their way to the bedroom and by the time they finally get to sleep it is the early hours of Christmas
Day.

Christmas Day 1997.

At about 8am, PJ wakes up to find Maggie still asleep. He just stares at her for a while when Maggie awakes.

PJ: Merry Christmas beautiful. (kisses her)

Maggie: Merry Christmas to you too. (returns the kiss)

PJ: (cheerfully) It is a beautiful day today.

Maggie: How can you say that? You haven't even left the bed.

PJ: (sarcastically) Well the sun's shining through the curtains.

Maggie: Oh ok, I'll have to believe you then.

PJ: You don't believe me, I'll prove it to you then.

Maggie: PJ you don't have to prove anything to me, PJ. (starts to shout)

It is too late, PJ dressed only in his boxer shorts gets out of the bed and pulls the curtains across. This causes the sun to shine inside.

Maggie: Please PJ, shut the curtains, you're blinding me.

PJ: (smirking) It's called sunlight and it is there to wake you up.

Maggie: Very funny, now close the blinds and come back to bed.

PJ first remembers something and quickly opens the front door and puts out a sign. Then he runs back inside and shuts the door. He goes into the bedroom where
Maggie welcomes him again. Like the night before they continue where they left off, loving each other like there's no tomorrow.

Noone will disturb them either because the sign PJ left out on the door was "Do Not Disturb."
