WEDDING BELLS!!!!

Anna van Gemert

Maggie ran to the phone when she heard it ring. Her hair was tied back in a pony tail and it was still wet from the shower she had taken earlier. She was wearing
grey tracksuit pants and a long sleeved black T-shirt of PJ's which he had left there last time he was over.

"Hello?" she asked as she picked the receiver up
 "Hey Minzie!" the caller stated
 "Michael?" Maggie asked surprised
 "Yeah?" He replied
"How are you? I haven't spoken to you in ages" Maggie continued as the door bell rang

Maggie quickly told her brother that some one was at the door and that she would be back in a second. As Maggie opened the door she saw PJ standing there. He
has obviously come from the Imperial as he wearing some black trousers and a green shirt with a white T-Shirt underneath.

 "Come in" she offered
 "Don't I get a kiss?" PJ laughed
"Michael's on the phone" she said as she gave him a very quick kiss
 "Michel?" PJ asked curiously
"Yeah. Now, you sit and I'll be back soon" she said as she headed back towards the phone.

When she left the room and followed her into the hallway where he leaned against the wall behind Maggie. He stood there with the puppy dog look trying to give the
hint, 'GET OFF THE PHONE!:

"So Michael, what's this news you wants me to hear?" She said picking the phone back up
"Well, first I want to know who was at the door" Michael declared
"Nobody really. Just a friend. She's waiting in the lounge room for me" she lied
"You know. You really shouldn't lie. I would off thought your visitor sounded like a man"
 "Michael!" Maggie Warned
"And I would of thought that this man sounded like a Patrick " her brother continued
 "Dad?"
"No Minzie, that colleague of yours, Patrick Joseph?" Michael laughed
"Yeah, maybe it is. So what? Now, what's this about news?"

Maggie was very surprised when her brother told her the news. PJ could see it in her face. Her mouth opened and nothing came out as her eyes glittered. Finally
Maggie got off the phone and went into the lounge room. PJ followed her. They then both sat on the couch together both waiting for the other person to start.

"So?" they both said in unison
 "Michael's getting married!" Maggie exclaimed
 "What?" PJ asked, surprised
"His getting married, this Sunday!" she confirmed
"Gee, I didn’t think he was the marrying type. Maybe I do have a chance" PJ joked
 "I doubt that!"

The following day Maggie went to work and organised to have the weekend off. Her boss, Tom wanted PJ to work that weekend but he wasn't able to. PJ had
organised to stay with his mother that weekend as he had known he was going to have it off for over a month. He had had this planned for well over a month. This
was what Tom thought anyway but Maggie and PJ knew something much different.

The day after was Friday. Maggie was meant to knock off at 4pm, which she did. PJ was due to stop work at 7 that night but as Mt. Thomas was surprisingly very
quite Tom let PJ leave with Maggie. They both had decided to travel to Melbourne together, in Maggie's car.

"So who's driving?" PJ asked as they walked out of Maggie house
"Well, I'm paying for the petrol so then, um, you can!"
"But, it's your car and I wouldn't want to take your beloved drivers seat away from you" PJ played stopping by the car.
"Okay then Patrick I have a wonderful romantic idea" Maggie announced
"And what might that be Ms Doyle?" PJ asked placing his arms around her waist.
"I drive half way, then we stop and then you drive the rest of the way"
"I hardly think that is romantic Margaret" PJ said kissing her
"Then we can stop at a park somewhere along the way and well, have a picnic tea on the grass" Maggie smiled
"And where will we get this picnic tea from?" PJ asked
"Now, you’re the detective, you figure that out!" Maggie said getting in to the car
"Hey, I thought you were driving the first leg?!"

For the next hour Maggie and PJ travelled down to Melbourne in silence. Occasionally they look at each other and smile and the only word that was said was ,
"So….." Finally PJ turned on the radio and began to sing with the song that was playing. He really didn't have a good voice and it didn't help that he didn't know the
words.

 "Enough PJ!" Maggie declared
"What, don't you like my voice?" PJ asked, with a sad but playful look on his face
"I can't take your, your, your…" Maggie started
 "Voice?"
 "Yeah" Maggie confirmed
"You want to stop?" PJ asked
 "Where?"
"Well I used to live around here when I was a kid, and there some shops just up there where we can get some food then a park about 5 minutes from there"
"Really PJ. I always thought you lived in the inner city of Melbourne. Not this far out"
"Well Constable, you've got allot to learn about me"

PJ then got off the main highway and drove around a few back streets to a shopping mall where the both got out of the car. They walked hand in hand into the
supermarket where they bought some food such as salad, rolls and cold chicken. Then they went back to the car and drove onto a near by park.

They couple stayed at the park for what seemed like hours to them. They loved the space. They didn't have to worry that they would turn around and see Nick,
Adam, Chris, Dash and even Tom staring down at them. They both knew that they should tell them but both of them hadn't bought it up in conversation. As Maggie
went to take a spoon of the salad they had some it spilt on her chin. PJ cleared it away with his thumb before kissing her.

 "PJ" Maggie said pulling away
"Yeah?" PJ replied lying on his back on the grass
"I was just thinking…" Maggie said, joining PJ
"So what were you thinking?" PJ asked sitting up, facing Maggie with one of his hands on either side of her
"That, well maybe we should tell the others"
"Are you 100% sure?" PJ whispered in her ear
"Only fools are 100% sure of anything "
"Somehow I remember you telling me that before Constable" PJ played
"Some how I do too and somehow I think I regret that" Maggie said pulling PJ back down to her.

After they finished eating everything they had bought they went back to Maggie's car and followed on to Melbourne. Maggie said she would stick to her side of the
deal and drive but PJ insisted, so he did. Within 40 minutes they arrived at the hotel room Michael had arranged for Maggie. It was a simple room with a small
television on a chest of draws, a small bathroom, a couch and a double bed in the centre of the room. PJ carried up Maggie's bags before they both sat on couch.
Within a matter of minutes there was a knock at the door.

"Coming" Maggie said jumping from the couch
"I'll hide in the bathroom" PJ said getting up after her but walking in the opposite direction
"No!" Maggie said, "I thought we agreed that we weren't going to keep it a secret?"
"Are you sure your sure?"
"Hello?" the voice on the other side of the door called
"Very" Maggie said pulling PJ by the arm to the door where she opened it
"Hi Minzie" Michael said stepping into the room
"Michael" Maggie replied in a rather happy but nervous voice
"PJ" Michael waved
"Hi" PJ replied

The air was rather tense. Maggie was nervous, as was PJ and Michael didn't know what to say. He didn't like PJ very much but he had suspicions, like everyone
else that his sister and him were an item.

"Well I better be off Maggs" PJ said breaking the silence
"PJ?" Maggie said pulling on his arm
 "Yeah?"
 "Don't go, please?" she asked
"Okay" He said, "So, how are you Michael?"
"I'm good. You'll be coming to the wedding right?" he asked
"Well I was actually going to go to my mum's"
"Don't be silly, I'm sure Maggie will like the company"
"Come on PJ, please?" Maggie begged
"Yeah, okay" PJ smiled as he wrapped his arms around Maggie from the back of her

This was the first time PJ showed his feelings for Maggie in front of anyone. Of course he had shown his emotions in front of the officers in Mt. Thomas when
Maggie was in trouble and Chris knew how he felt but he hadn't actually hugged her like this in public.

"So I guess I was right, Minzie?" Michael guessed
 "Yeah" she smiled
"Well I better be off. Jo's in the car"
"When I am actually going to meet my brother future wife?" Maggie asked
"Probably after their married" PJ whispered in Maggie's ear unaware that Michael could here
"Why don't you both come down and meet her then?" Michael suggested
 "Okay"

Maggie and PJ followed Michael holding hands. They walked down some stairs to a court yard across to a blue car. A woman stepped out. She was a little taller
them Maggie and she had brown hair which was about the same length. She was wearing a cream short and a blue shirt.

"Maggie, PJ, I'd like you to met soon to be wife Jo. Jo I would like you to met my Sister Minzie and her boyfriend, PJ"
"Minzie?" Jo asked
"Maggie, pleased to met you" Maggie said shaking her hand
"Same to you"

Jo and Michael soon left and PJ and Maggie went back up to Maggie's room. On their way Maggie told PJ that he should learn to lighten up. PJ really didn't know
what she meant by this and Maggie began to laugh. When they entered the room they both sat on the couch and spoke about how they were going to tell everyone
about their relationship.

"Hey, I've got a idea" PJ said
 "What?" Maggie asked
"Well, I could ring and tell one of them that if they needed to contact me, I'd be here with you"
"And let them think what they want to think right?"
"Yeah, and it will give them a day to talk about us" PJ said
"They wouldn't do that, would they?" Maggie asked
"What?" he asked
"Discuss how, well we feel about each other" she said
"Maybe, I don't know. How do you feel about me anyway?" he asked, playfully
"I thought you knew that" she replied
"I do, but I want to be told again"
"You first" she declared
"No" he replied

Within seconds Maggie and PJ were chassing each other around the hotel room, trying to catch each other. After another minute PJ flopped down on the bed.

"Getting unfit in your old age are you detective?" Maggie asked jumping down next to him
"Who said I'm old?" she asked, turning to face her
  "Me!" she laughed
"Well thanks a lot!" he played, turning around and crossing his arms
"Are you being serious?" He asked, trying her best not to laugh
"Yes" he repled turning back around.
"No your not!" she discovered before they both began to kiss again.

Twenty minutes later, at 10:30 Pj thought it would be a good idea to ring the Imperial. Everyone should be there and he didn't want them ring his mothers and
making her worry. After all she didn't even know that PJ was in Melbourne and he didn't want her to so they both walked down to the public phone near the office.
The phone rang twice before Chris answered:

  "Hello?" Chris asked
  "Hey Chris" PJ said
  "PJ?" she asked
"Yep, is the Boss there?" he asked
"Yeah, I'll get him for you. Is Maggie there?" Chris asked, ecpecting the wrong answer
"Yes Chris, she is standing right next to me" he laughed
"Hang on a sec" she asked. She was very surprised
"Tom!" Chris yelled, "PJ's on the phone" she continued, "And Maggie!"
"And Maggie?" all the Mt. Thomas police officers who were still there asked together
"That's what I said!" she confirmed
  "PJ?" Tom asked
"Yeah, hi boss!" PJ started "I just want to tell you if you need to contact me I'll be with Maggie" he told him nervously
"Okay" Tom replied surprised, "Is Maggie there?"
"Maggie, he wants to speak to you" PJ said, smiling at Maggie.
"Hey Boss!" Maggie said, "How are you?" she asked. This was actually very fun for her.
"Good, Maggie. Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure. You don't have to ask you know"

By this time Nick, Adam, Chris and Dash have gathered around Tom trying to hear all of the conversation.

"Well, Chris, Dash, Adam, Nick and even me just want to know how long you and PJ, have been, well you know"
"Yeah boss, I know what you mean." She said
"So…" he asked
"Um, about 2 months" she blurted out
"Okay, I guess we'll have to talk about his when you get back. When you and PJ get back. Until then have a nice time" he said before he hang up.

"Did you have to say that to her Tom?" Chris asked, annoyed
"What?" he asked
"Don't worry! So, how long?" she asked eagerly
"Two months" he laughed

For the rest of the evening every one in Mt. Thomas spoke about how on earth Maggie and PJ kept their relationship a secret for so long. They discussed the
difference from 3 moths ago till now and 2 months ago. Meanwhile PJ and Maggie were clad it was out in the open but they still were not sure if they did the right
thing.

"Are you sure we did the right thing?" Maggie worried
   "No" He laughed

The day after Maggie and PJ had the whole day to entertain themselves as the wedding wasn't until Sunday. They both decided that they better go and see Pat
Doyle, Maggie's father. They drove to his house but he wasn't home so Maggie decided that they should go to his station and see if he was working.

They continued to his station before walking in there together. When inside a officer in uniform approached them. Maggie didn't recognise her.

"Can I help you?" she asked
  "Is Dad in?" Maggie asked
  "Dad?" the officer asked, confused
  "Sergeant Doyle"
  "Ah, you must be Maggie?"
  "Yeah"
  "I'll get him for you"

Maggie and PJ looked at each other before sitting on the couch that stood near by. Within a few minutes Pat walked though the door near the counter and went to
Maggie and PJ. He hugged Maggie and nodded at PJ.

  "You busy Dad?" Maggie asked
"I'm never too busy for my little girl, you should know that"
"You want to go for a walk?" she asked, nervously
"No need for that Maggie. Michael rang me last night. How 'bout we go for lunch?" he asked
"What did Michael actually tell you Dad?" Maggie asked
"Never mind about that. Come on"

They three police officers went to lunch. Both Maggie and PJ were relived that Michael had told Pat and that he didn't really care. After they had lunch Maggie had
to use the bathroom and Pat used this time for have a friendly chat with PJ.

"Don't you hurt my little girl" Pat warned
"Do you really think I would?" PJ asked
"I know how men think. There not always trust worthy"
"Look, I remember Maggie and I speaking about, well you and love and things. She told me that I was like you. Well something like that anyway. So the real
question is, would you hurt Maggie?" PJ stated seriously
"No I wouldn't hurt her. I guess I don't really know you that well, do I?"
"No, I guess not but in time I hope you do. I also hope you learn to like me" PJ said
"I'll have to PJ. I can see my daughter really does love you and who ever she likes, or loves for that matter I have to learn to do aswell"
"Thanks" PJ said
"Ready?" Maggie said coming back from the bathroom
"Yeah, just let me pay the bill" Pat said before he left the table
"Why are you smiling" Maggie asked, rubbing PJ arm
"Because I think I'm beginning to like you family"
"I know you don't exactly get along with them, but try, please for my sake?"
"I didn't mean it like that Maggs. I swear"
"Then what did you mean?"
"Well, let's just say while you were in the bathroom, your father and I , well we had a good chat"
"Really, you'll have to fill me in on this" Maggie said
"I will, I will"

That night Maggie and PJ were alone yet again. They didn't really want to go to the Hen's party and the buck's night even thought they were invited. Maggie didn't
really know Jo or any of her friends and it wasn't a secret that Michael and PJ didn't get along, though that was changing. They two decided to go out for tea.

Maggie and PJ walked out the surrounding streets of their hotel looking for somewhere to eat but they really couldn't see something that they both liked. Before long
they were back outside there motel.

"Just want to get something from the restaurant here?" Maggie asked
  "Not exactly" PJ complained
 "Then what?"
 "Room service?"
"Now, Detective that does sound entertaining!"

At 12 midday the following day Maggie and PJ arrived at the Catholic Church where Michel and Jo were to be married. They took there places near the front and
Maggie made the sign of the cross, unlike PJ. Maggie smiled when she saw her brother steeping side to side waiting for the wedding march to start. Suddenly it
began, everyone within the church stood up and turned and watched the bride walk down the isle.

After the service JO's family and Michael's went on to a small Italian restaurant for a small reception. It wasn't very big as not many people attended the church. Jo
was still dressed in her wedding dress, which was very simple, just a plain cream straight dress. Around 6pm Maggie insisted that she and PJ must be off. They had
to go back to the hotel to pack and get back to Mt. Thomas.

Maggie and PJ arrived back at Mt. Thomas at about 10:30pm. Maggie went back to her own house, and PJ went to his. At 11:15 that same night Maggie was
restless and went to the Imperial as Dash still wasn't home so everyone, but PJ must be down there. She prepared herself to be grilled.

When she entered the Imperial PJ got up of his seat and went to greet her. He was surprise to see her, as she was to see him. As their hands touched PJ lent down
and kissed her. As they embraced Dash, Nick and Adam whistled loudly. PJ then led Maggie back towards the table he had come from. He sat on his seat before
he pulled Maggie down to sit on his lap. They finally could show their feelings in public, even in front of Tom who didn't really care.

"So are you going to act like this when you investigating a case?" Dash asked
"I think they will keep their private relationship away from their professional one, Constable" Tom said
"We have been for well over 2 months Dash" Maggie said
"Remember?" PJ continued

Chris come over within a few minutes with another round of drinks for everyone. She evened joined them. When Tom finished his beer he left complaining that he
was very tied and needed his sleep.

"So when did you two actually get it together?" Adam asked
"Well, cooper that's a story for another time" PJ said
"But we want to know" Nick whined
"I'll tell you tomorrow" Dash announce
"How can you tell them?" PJ asked
"Cause Maggie will tell me tonight"
"No she won't" PJ said
"Won't I?" Maggie asked
"No, Maggie cause aren't you coming home with me tonight?" PJ played
"Of course, ready?"
"Yep" PJ said

Maggie pulled him off his chair after she was pushed off my PJ. They then walked out of the pub after saying goodbye to Chris.
