The Ant

Buffy watched Spike freeze in his spot, taking unnecessary breaths. His eyes were wide-open; the whites shining making him look like a scared horse.

“Spike?” She said, crossing her arms. The vampire was continuously acting weird or maybe he was just acting as a vampire. Who knew but she was really sure Angel wouldn't act like this…

“A…it's a…a” Spike stuttered, staring at the ground.

“Huh?” Buffy exclaimed, raising her eyebrow.

“A…a…”

“Okay, let's take it slow, Spike. A what?” She asked.

Suddenly Spike let out an unmanly shriek and ran behind her back and held her as a shield against…

*Yeah, against what is the question.* Buffy thought.

“Really, Spike. This is a new look on you that I don't like. Not that I usually check you out or anything although in that leather…okay, umm, just spill it! What the hell is wrong with you?!”

“Kill it!” Spike said in a whisper and hid his face against her back. Buffy rolled her eyes.

“Could you just stop that!” She yelled and shoved him away. He looked at her like a puppy that just had been kicked by his beloved owner. Buffy looked at him, seeing that he was trembling in fear.

*Whatever he has seen it must be damn scary…* Buffy thought, taking out a stake from her tiny outfit. She searched the room for whatever had scared Spike shitless but she couldn't see anything or even hear anything scary. She didn't even get the wiggins.

Suddenly Spike came running screaming against her and actually jumped up into her arms. She held him as a child, staring at him.

“Spike, no offense but get the hell off me!” She shouted and tried to shake him off but stopped when she saw that he was crying.

*Spike crying?* She thought. He looked so damn cute and vulnerable that she couldn't help herself from hugging him tight and whispering soothing things to him.

“Tell Buffy what's wrong.” She said and mentally kicked herself. Was she mothering a vampire now?

“Please, make it go away.” Spike begged her, and looked at the floor again.

“Spike, there's nothing there.” Buffy said calmly, following his gaze.

“It's there all right and it wants to do nasty things with me.” Spike said, giving the empty space a glare.

Buffy raised her eyebrow. “Nasty things?”

*Great so now he's seeing things that wants to do nasty things with him? God, help us all.* She thought, sighing.

“Okay, will you let me go if I go over there and take a look?” She asked and Spike nodded, releasing her slowly. Buffy gave him a look and then walked to the place where Spike had seen the “thing”. All she could see was a lonesome ant. “There's nothing here, Spike.”

Spike came over to her, looked at the floor and fainted. Buffy dragged him home, muttering about silly vampires seeing things that's not even there…
