One Friday Night
By Ragna

~8 PM~

"Willow, go ahead. You and Xander have a great time on your date." Buffy nodded to the phone, trying not to sneeze again. "Mom's going to be here soon, Dawn's here, we're going to do the movie marathon thing while they both try to make me feel all better and stuff."

"Who's patrolling?"

"Giles said he'd give it a go. I don't think there's supposed to be any problems tonight, so..." The knock on the door startled her. "Hold on a sec."

Buffy got up to open the door, but Dawn, who'd charged down the stairs two at a time at lightspeed, beat her to the door. "You're late!" she said to the visitor.

"Bloody hell, it's pretty damn hard to find that flavor of Ben & Jerry's around here," Spike said, stepping into Buffy's home. "Slayer, you look good."

Buffy knew he was lying through his teeth, but a slow pink flush crept up her cheek. "Thanks," she said. Looking at Dawn, she added, "I thought Mom was going to be here by now."

Dawn shrugged. "I thought I told you she had to go to LA for a showing. That's why I called Spike."

"*You* called Spike?" Buffy said. "How'd..." She trailed off as a sneeze hit.

"I got a cell phone," Spike said. "I dropped off the number with the squirt here in case you needed to get a hold of me."

"And I think since you needed some cheering up, I'd call him." Dawn looked at Spike. "This would qualify as needing you, right?"

Spike smiled. "I believe it would."

Buffy went back to the phone. "Hey, Will, have fun at the concert, okay? Spike's here...he'll keep me company."

"Of *course* he will."

"Shut up."

~9:00 PM~

"It's sold out?" Xander looked at the ticket seller. "I called twenty minutes ago, to make sure there were tickets..."

The ticket seller shrugged. "We got hit by a huge crowd. Sorry." He pulled down the window covering and walked back into the building.

Xander looked at his hands. He'd promised Willow that he'd take her to the concert for their anniversary. She'd been looking forward to it, and even though it wasn't his favorite style of music, he had to admit he'd been looking forward to it, too.

And now they were out of luck.

He went to the nearest payphone and dialed Willow's number.

"Hello?"

"Will, we have a problem..."

~9:30 PM~

"Two pints down, four to go," Spike said, reaching over to take a bite of Dawn's ice cream.

"That's mine!" she said, sitting up and smacking Spike's arm.

Buffy smiled at the two of them. She'd let Dawn pick out the first movie, and she had to admit she had decent taste. The Slayer had never imagined sitting on the same couch with Spike and her sister, watching "The Matrix."

"Now this is an interesting part," Spike said. "Basically, Keanu and Laurence did their own stunts for this scene." He looked over at Buffy. "Though I bet your sister could put them both through the ringer."

"Maybe, if I wasn't so...so..." She sneezed, knocking her ice cream off her lap. "So sick."

Spike moved slightly, bending over to pick up the fallen ice cream container. "Maybe you should be in bed, love."

Buffy shook her head. "Want to watch the movie."

Spike handed her the ice cream container. "All right then."

~10:00 PM~

"I'd have given you a moonlight picnic or something," Xander said, "but since this is Sunnydale..."

Willow smiled, looking around them. Xander had constructed a fort in his apartment's living room, just like they used to do when they were kids. Music was playing softly, the window was open letting in a cool breeze...

"I just can't believe you remembered I love macaroni salad."

"I'm allergic to it, so of course I remember."

"Remind me to brush my teeth before I kiss you tonight," Willow said, smiling as she raised a spoonful of salad to her lips.

"Have I ever told you how much I enjoy watching you eat?" Xander said, laying down on his stomach and staring up at Willow. Her hair was pulled back in a way that made the moonlight that filtered into the room show the nape of her neck and the outline of her jaw while the rest of her face was partially hidden in shadow.

"Nope. Never said anything like that." Willow looked down at Xander. Who would have thought that the Homecoming kiss really wasn't a fluke?

"What are you thinking about?"

Willow paused the next spoonful a few inches away from her mouth. "Us."

"Good or bad?"

Willow smiled, setting down the spoonful of salad. She kissed Xander's forehead lightly, her face fully in the moonlight. "Good."

~10:30 PM~

"All right, squirt, off to bed," Spike said.

"Why?" Dawn asked, glaring at Spike.

"Because it's after ten, and your sister needs to be able to tell your mum you actually got some sleep tonight." Spike handed her the last full pint of ice cream. "It's all yours if you go up to your room."

"Deal," Dawn said, taking the pint of Chunky Monkey and running up the stairs.

Spike turned to face Buffy. "Now, which movie do you want to watch?"

Buffy shook her head. "Want to listen to a CD. Then we can watch another movie, I guess."

Spike nodded. "Any in particular?"

"Crazy Town, number 6. Called 'Butterfly.'" Buffy pointed towards the CD player. "Should already be in there."

Spike stifled the smart ass comment he had wanted to utter about having to listen to a song called Butterfly. Buffy was sick, the least he could do was help to make her feel better. There wasn't a thrill in hunting anymore, fighting Buffy had gotten to the point where it was just redundant...

// Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar baby \\

"It's a cool song. Sit down and listen," Buffy said, patting the seat next to her. Spike sat down, picking up the half empty pint of ice cream Buffy had dropped earlier. It was soupy now, melted with bits of cherries and chocolate floating about.

"You let it melt."

"Cherry Garcia always tastes better melted."

// Such a sexy, sexy pretty little thing
Fierce nipple pierce, you got me sprung with your tongue ring
And I ain't gonna lie 'cause your loving gets me high
So to keep you by my side there's nothing that I won't try
Butterflies in her eyes and the looks to kill
Time is passing and I'm asking could this be real
'Cause I can't sleep I can't hold still
The only thing I really know is she got sex appeal
I can feel too much is never enough
You're always there to lift me up when these times get rough
I was lost. Now I'm found ever since you've been around
You're the woman that I want so yo, I'm putting it down
Puttin' it down \\

Buffy took the spoon and scooped out some of the soupy ice cream. "Taste it."

Spike leaned in towards Buffy, letting her put the spoon in his mouth, diligently eating the ice cream she fed him. When she pulled the spoon out, he realized he'd shut his eyes, letting every other sense in his body except his sense of sight take over.

He smelled the spilt ice cream from earlier on her lap, the coconut hair wash and vanilla musk perfume on her skin. He felt her warm hand a few inches from his face, her warmth radiating a hundred times warmer because she was sick. He heard her shallower breathing, as if her heart was caught up in her throat. But he heard that selfsame heart beating a hundred miles an hour...

Opening his eyes, he saw her staring at him. "Maybe I should feed you..."

// Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy.
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy .\\

~11:00 PM~

// I don't deserve you unless it's some kind of hidden message
To show me life is precious then I guess it's true
To tell the truth, I really never knew 'til I met you
I was lost and confused twisted and used up
Knew a better life existed but thought that I missed it
My lifestyle's wild I was living like a wild child
Trapped on a short leash paroled the police files
So yo, what's happening now?
I see the sun breaking shining through dark clouds
And a vision of you standing out in the crowds \\

Xander and Willow lay in the makeshift fort, a slight sheen of sweat covering their naked bodies. Willow had her head nestled in the crook of Xander's arm, her eyes shut as she began to fall asleep.

"Willow?" Xander asked, his voice tinged with sleep.

"Hmm?"

"Are you glad Oz left, and we started dating?"

Willow opened an eye. "Why'd you wanna know?"

// Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy.
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy .\\

"Because I love you, and I don't want to be just the rebound guy." He looked down at her. "And I don't want you to think I'd ever hurt you that way.

"I know you wouldn't," she said, closing her eyes again. "Oz wouldn't have done any of this for me."

"But you do really want to be with me?"

"Why wouldn't I, Xander?" Willow kept her eyes closed, but her hand roamed up Xander's smooth chest. "Xander, I've been in love with you for so long, and...this is perfect."

Xander bent his head down and returned the kiss to the forehead Willow had given him earlier. "This is perfect."

// Hey sugar mama come dance with me
The smartest thing you ever did was take a chance with me
So, girl whatever tickles your fancy girl it's me and you like Sid and Nancy
So sexy...almost evil talkin' about butterflies in my head
I used to think that happy endings were only in the books I read
But you made me feel alive when I was almost dead
You filled that empty space with the love I used to chase
And as far as I can see it don't get better than this
So, butterfly here is a song and it's sealed with a kiss
And a thank you miss \\

~11:30 PM~

// Come and dance with me come and dance with me
Come and dance with me come and dance with me
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy.
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy .\\

Buffy didn't care about the chocolate that had dripped on her clothes, or the fact she had major bedhead and probably the foulest breath in the world right now.

All she did care about was that Spike was next to her, holding her as they watched the fire he'd built in the fireplace when she'd said she was cold, listening to the song over and over again.

"Angel isn't going to be happy," Spike said seriously.

"Angel's a part of my past, not my present." She turned to look at Spike, the flames leaving a strange glow on Spike's face, loaning him it's warmth for a moment so he wasn't as cold as ice. "You're in my present."

He ran his hand down her bare leg as she almost timidly ran a finger up and down the center of his chest, feeling every muscle, every divet and curve as he did the same. "And you're in mine."

//Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy.
Come my lady come, come my lady
You're my butterfly. Sugar, baby
Come my lady you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake you'll make me go crazy.
Come and dance with me come and dance with me
Come and dance with me come and dance with me \\

~ 6 am, Saturday ~

"So," Willow said, keeping an eye on a still sleeping Xander. "How was last night?"

"Last night was...interesting," Buffy said. "You?"

"It was nice." She stifled a laugh. "Spike's still asleep?"

"Yeah...how'd you know?"

Willow let the laugh out. "Actually, I was just guessing."

"Willow Rosenburg!" Buffy smiled a smile as she felt a pair of cold arms encircle her bare waist. "I'm going to hang up now."

"Are you all better?"

"I'm just fine, Will. Call later, okay?" Buffy hung up the phone, looked at Spike, and smiled. "I so need to thank Dawn."

"We both do," Spike said. "Are you really all better?" He nipped at her neck lightly.

"I am now..."
