Round Robin
Part One
by Karen
He had been back in Sunnydale for two weeks. His days were spent holed up in a cheap
motel on the bad side of town; his nights, watching over her. When the prophecy came to
pass, he might lose her forever. The very thought of loving a Slayer was laughable.
Vampires and Slayers were worse than oil and water; they were more like fire and
dynamite, an explosive combination. He has thought more than once that he should just
turn her-- they could make love all day, and hunt all night, and it did away with that whole
inter-species relationship issue. Bagging two Slayers was impressive enough, but to *turn*
one, as well? It was unheard of. The other vampires would be more than a little impressed.
Not that Spike cared. He had come to the realization, however, that he was no longer as

innocent Willow; and that silly whelp, Xander; and Buffy. Buffy, who redefined the word
'sexy'; with her blue eyes and her snap kicks, her body and her deadly fists. When had it
begun, this desire, this need of her? He had gone to search for Drusilla, but the entire time,
Buffy was on his mind, invading his thoughts, his dreams, his fantasies. When he'd gotten
word of the prophecy, he'd left Prague immediately, to protect Buffy. He'd brought a gift
for her, a gift she would need if she was to survive what was to come. He no longer
wanted Dru. He wanted Buffy, *needed* her, with every fiber of his being. He would not
turn her; she wouldn't like that. He had waited long enough. He would go to her now,
confess his love, and hope that she would realize that all obstacles would crumble under
the force of his love. He carefully smoothed his hair, wishing--not for the first time--that
he could use a mirror. He had to do the best he could with his shadow on the wall, but it
was impossible to see the back that way. A squirt of Binaca, a final polish on her gift, and
he was ready to go. He knew exactly where to find her on this Saturday night...
