The Fire-girl Series: Introduction
By Buffyfire
Disclaimer: This is a series I've created using the characters of Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, created by Joss Whedon. With the exception of Teri, the characters and most
of what they say are not mine.
I have brought these characters into what I see, another world. The world that
they live in, in my story, is much different from the one on the show. There are
similarities, which are purely coincidental. I began this series in February of 98
and when the episode Passion was shown, I knew that I needed something changed, which
is why I started here. This is the only scene from that episode that, in my stories,
is valid. Anything before or after this scene does not apply. Meaning that, Jenny,
obviously, is alive, and a revocation spell was never cast.
Prologue: Alternate Ending: Passion
Jenny smiled proudly at her work. She couldn't believe she'd done it. The answer
to curing Angel was right in front of her. She removed her disk and yawned, deciding
to save it until the next day. She hadn't had much sleep the night before and didn't
think she had the energy to pull of a spell like this. She reached into the pocket
of her jacket and pulled out a small pocketknife. Using it she opened a drawer to
which she'd lost the key months before. When it was open, she put the knife securely
back in her jacket and took her purse from the drawer. With a yawn she put on her
jacket. She was about to turn off her computer when the door opened. Jenny turned
and saw Ms. Howard standing in the doorway.
"Hey, Teri," Jenny said to her friend.
"Hi Jen, why are you here so late?"
"Just finishing up some stuff, how about you?
"I got halfway home before I realized that the kids' tests were here. So now,
I get to take the half-hour trip home and spend all night correcting them."
"Fun," said Jenny sarcastically.
"Well, I should go. See you tomorrow?"
"Bye, Teri."
Teri shut the door and was gone from Jenny's sight.
Continuing preparations for her departure, Jenny reached for the pages on the printer.
Something in the top of her eye caused her top look up, into the room. She gasped
and stood when she saw the thing that had caught her eye. Angel sat in one of the
desks in the back of the room, giving her a complacent smile.
"Angel! How did you get in here?"
"I was invited," he said simply. He soon realized that she had no idea
what he was talking about and added "The sign on the front of the school? Formatia
trans sicere eduacatorum."
"Enter all ye who seek knowledge," she translated.
"What can I say? I'm a knowledge seeker."
He stood and took a couple of steps toward her, causing her to back up against the
wall, panic filling her.
"A-Angel, I've got good news," she stuttered.
"I heard. You went shopping at the local boogedy-boogedy store."
When he reached her desk, he saw the orb sitting in its wooden case. He carefully
picked it up and examined it.
"The orb of Thesulah," he continued, "If memory serves, this is supposed
to summon a person's soul from the ether stored, until it can be transferred."
As he spoke, the orb glowed in his hand, it's inside shining like a star. "You
know what I hate most about these things?" With a quick motion, he threw the
orb smashing against the chalkboard. Jenny screamed in reaction and he laughed at
the way she recoiled, "They're so damn fragile. Must be that shoddy gypsy craftsmanship,
huh?"
Jenny edged her way to the door and was angry to find that it had locked when Teri
had left. Angel turned his attention to the computer.
"I never cease to be amazed at how much the world has changed in just two and
a half centuries. It's really a miracle to me. You put the secrets to restring my
soul here..." with that, he sent the computer crashing to the ground. Then,
he went to the printer, "and it comes out here."
He ripped out the pages and began to look them over, "The ritual of restoration.
Wow. This- this brings back memories."
As he spoke, he ripped the pages into pieces.
"Wait, that's your-" Jenny began.
"Oh, my cure?" he interrupted, " No thanks. Been there, done that,
déjà vu just isn't what it used to be."
The computer had started a small electrical fire. He looked at it and smiled. "My,"
he said, "isn't this my lucky day? The computer and the pages." He tossed
the pages into the fire, then squatted down to feel the heat with his hands. As he
stared into the flames, Jenny stepped slowly to the other door in the room. "Two
birds with one stone." He looked up at her with a changed face and added, "and
teacher makes three."
Jenny ran towards the door but was grabbed before she got there. Angel swung her
around into the door, knocking it open and landing her hard on the ground. The second
she had the chance, she got up and ran.
When she entered the hallway, she found that the door, leading to the parking lot,
was locked. She ran into the courtyard, looking back only once to see Angel walking
at a brisk pace behind her.
The courtyard, from end to end, was long and when Angel entered it, he saw that she
was already halfway down it. His walk soon changed into a jog, then an all out run.
Jenny finally reached the door that led back inside, but found it locked. No, she
thought, please not now! She pulled and yanked until
finally, the door opened. She darted inside and slammed it shut on Angel's face.
When he started to pull on it, she towards the stairs. She stopped only once to shove
a janitor's cart onto him, then ran up, not even looking back to see if it had hit
him.
When she reached the top, she turned to see if he was following her. He was nowhere
to be seen. She backed up, keeping her eyes on the stairwell opening. She kept backing
up until she had backed right into someone. The strength of his arms grasping her
told her that somehow, Angel had beaten her there. Jenny tried to cry out but his
hand came up to clamp her mouth shut.
He hadn't scared anyone like this in a long time and was he loving it. He could feel
her body shuddering and shaking under his arms, which held her tightly, to keep her
from moving. He could feel her tears falling onto his hand, which was tightly keeping
her mouth shut. Smiling, he leaned close to her ear. "Don't cry, Jenny,"
he said, "It won't hurt a bit, I- Ahh!"
A sharp pain occurred in his side suddenly and abruptly cut him off. He released
her and saw that she had a small pocketknife in her hand. She stabbed him again,
in the chest this time, then in the leg. Then, being assured that he was at least
slowed down a little, she ran back down the stairs. When she reached the bottom,
she saw an emergency exit. She ran for it without hesitation.
Before she could open it, she heard a scream behind her. She looked over her shoulder
and stopped immediately when she saw what was there. Angel held Teri tightly with
a hand clasped around her neck.
"Get back here," he said to Jenny.
Reluctantly, Jenny moved away from the door. "Let her go," she said.
Angel, for a moment looked as though he was considering it, then said, "Ok."
Before Jenny could react, he shoved Teri headfirst into the nearby trophy case. Teri
fell to the floor and ceased to move. Jenny ran out the exit and headed quickly to
her car. She was almost there, when she was grabbed from behind. He had grabbed her
by the arms, this time and there was no way to reach her knife.
"Sorry, Jenny," he said, "This is where you get off."
He brought a hand behind her neck and BANG!
Angel released her and fell to the floor, clutching his right in anguish. Jenny looked
past him and saw Teri who stood at the door,
covered with blood, and holding a small pistol. "What-what the hell was that
thing?" Teri asked
"A vampire."
"What?"
"You heard me," she confirmed.
Jenny looked at her friend and saw that Teri's face was covered with cuts from the
glass shards, which were all bleeding.
"God, those cuts look bad. Where do you live?" she asked.
"Thark Street."
"Thark Street? That's too far. You need help."
"You know of anywhere closer?"
Jenny thought for a second, then said "Yeah, I think I do."
"Oh, my God!" said Buffy, when she opened the door. Of all things in the
world, the last thing she expected to see on her doorstep was her English teacher
on the verge of passing out.
"I'm sorry." Said Jenny, "This was the closest place I knew of."
She entered the house and put Teri on the couch. Buffy rushed out to the room and
came back with a first-aid kit. After cleaning Teri's cuts, Jenny and Buffy left
the room, so she could recover in peace.
"Well?" asked Buffy, "What happened?"
Jenny sat down, "An old friend paid a visit."
"Angel?"
"Yeah."
"God, it isn't enough he's trying to kill my friends, now he's after my teachers."
"He wasn't after her. He was trying to kill me."
"Why?"
"I don't know," Jenny lied. She didn't dare tell Buffy about the spell.
She'd kept enough secrets and knew that this would only make things worse between
them.
"What did he do to her, shove her through a windshield?"
"No, he threw her into the trophy case. What do you think I should do?"
"Take her home, then go tell Giles what happened."
"Good idea, can I use your phone?"
"Go ahead."
She picked up the phone and dial Giles' phone number.
"Hi, Rupert?" she said when he picked up, "Look, I'm coming over in
a few minutes. Put on a pot of coffee, I have a lot to tell you."
