Story Submission Guidelines

Please review all these guidelines before submitting your story. If your story doesn’t follow these guidelines I won’t post it. I’m sorry about the strictness of some, but I have sooooooo many stories to html and these really help me…

Sending me stories:

You can send me stories in email, attached as a .txt or Microsoft Word document, or in a zipped file. If you send it as an attachment or zipped it will be easier for me, and the formatting will probably be closer to what you originally had it as (if that makes any sense). Before you send it in though, please review the rules below.

Basic Rules:

All stories must be finished. If you’re writing a really long story, you can send it to me in parts so if I have time, I will html the earlier parts sooner and you won’t have to wait as long for the whole thing to be up. If you do so, please let me now, and I won’t post any of it until I have the whole thing ready.

All stories must have a disclaimer. There’s more on this in the formatting rules.

They have to be under R in rating. Swearing and violence are all right, just nothing too explicit, and no explicit sexual acts or descriptions...

Formatting Rules:

There must be an extra line between each paragraph. The story title, author’s name and preferably author’s email address must be clearly labeled at the top of the story. Each story must have a disclaimer and any author’s notes clearly labeled at the top.

At the end of the story, put "The End"…sometimes I can’t tell if stories are finished or not. If you’re sending it in parts, please let me know and have the parts clearly labeled. This will help me immensely.

When you want something (thoughts, lyrics, etc.) to be in italics, put < > around it.

To indicate breaks between scenes please put five *’s:

*****

Don’t put html in unless you’re doing the whole thing…that means a <p> between every paragraph. Don’t put it by some, or put in <I> for italics or anything like that.

Grammer Rules:

All sentences must start with a capital letter and end with a period, exclamation mark or other applicable punctuation. All proper names should be capitalized, as should the word ‘I’.

Don’t group a lot of dialogue in one paragraph. It makes it almost impossible to read. Have a new paragraph every time a different person talks.

When using quotation marks, put the punctuation inside the quotation marks. If it says ‘so-and-so said’ afterwards, use a comma, as in:

"Be kind. Rewind," Buffy said.

Or

Buffy said, "Be kind. Rewind."

Proof read and use your spell checker. I don’t have time to go through and correct spelling and typos. If you don’t know anything about grammer rules, send your story to a beta reader, they’ll help you.

If you have all of these things done, then by all means, send me your stories! I warn you, I’m really backed up with htmling, so it may take quite some time to get them up…Send stories to felicity@SunnydaleHigh.zzn.com.
