Meet Fiona

Name: Fiona (just because it's pretty)

Born: Spring 1992?.

Adopted: Summer 1993.

History: One day, when I was still living at my dad's, I kept hearing meowing when I was in the back part of the house. I knew it wasn't my cat, Vester, but everytime I would go outside it would stop. After a couple of days, I finally heard it outside and followed it under some trees--there was Fiona. She had probably been abandoned by students leaving town for the summer. She was very friendly and clearly used to people, but she had also been on her own for a while and was skinny, with dull fur.

We started feeding her outside and soon took her to the vet for shots--that's when we learned she was going to have kittens. When she did have them, she kept them hidden from us for a month. She started bringing the two kittens--one black, one cream-colored--around when they were ready for solid food. We named them Cream Puff and Black Bean. (We thought they were both girls, but when Cream Puff later proved to be a boy, I started calling him Mr. Puff.)

All fall, they lived outside. (We probably would have brought them in sooner, but my cat was old, and I worried about him being stressed or catching an illness from their presence.) In the winter, we started bringing them in at night. When I moved out and took my cat, they moved in. They still live at my Dad's, and because they were outdoor cats from the beginning, they still go out. (I've kept my current cats in from the start and believe that's best for most cats--the fact that Mr. Puff eventually disappeared only confirms my opinion.)

Distinguishing features: Very affectionate. Loves the outdoors and sometimes won't come in at night. Has no great maternal love for Black Bean. Tries to sneak upstairs, where she's not allowed. A good mouser.

Hobbies: Looking for a lap to sit on. Hissing at Bean. Hanging around outside. Hunting for rodents.
