Chapter Eight: A Southfork Funeral

The Crowd stood in slience. Sarah turned cold as ice. David looked down, tears in his eyes. Joesph and Jenny bothed thought,: first our parents now, Enoch! Nobody said anything. Finally, after for what seemed like hours, Sarahs father spoke out.

"Are you sure?" David looked at him with the saddest eyes that anyman has ever had.

"I didn't see a body, but..." Sarah looked up, her face was has pale has a ghost.

"Father, don't..." Sarahs father looked at her.

"Sarah,"

Sarah cut him off. "NO, if Enoch was alive, his shirt would be on him." Sarah got up and ran into the
house. Her mother and a few other ladies followed. David walked off, and started to get on his horse, but then a hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Lets go see if we can find him." Sarahs father said. David agreed and gathered up some men. There was a group of about 20 and they all rode in diffrent directions to find Enoch.

A few hours went by and Sarah sat out on the back porch waiting for the guys to come back. She knew there was no hope. This was the second time that her marriage was wrecked because of a death. She knew that she was destined to live a single life. For the rest of her life. A few moments
later she heard horses riding up. She got up and saw her father and David getting closer. The look on their faces told Sarah what they found.

"Sarah," Her father said as he got off his horse.

"Don't tell me," she said, "You didn't find him."

"No we didn't, but it is getting dark, we'll...."David was cut off.

"No you won't go back out. He's dead." Sarah walked off into the darkness leaving her father and David
behind. She had a feeling in her heart that he was alive, but she didn't want to trust that. She couldn't trust that, she couldn't get hurt anymore.

David walked into his house. Judy was sitting in the living room looking at a picture.

"Judy," David called. "Why are you looking at the picture of David like that?" Judy had tears in her eyes.

"David," She said, "He would have been Enochs age by now." Judy burried her head in her arms.

"I know it's hard, I would think about David every minute I was with Enoch, but we can't bring back the past, we can't bring back our boy." David went to Judy and held her. "Judy, we just need to remember the good times." Judy looked up,

"David was only fifteen when he was killed, it's hard to remember the good times."

"I know," David said. "And I know that you and Samatha really liked Enoch."

"I think that Samatha looked at Enoch as a brother, he's all she ever talked about." Judy said, looking
back at her son's picture. David looked around, then looked back to Judy.

"Where is Samatha?"

"I believe she went off to think." Judy responded.

"Probably to that old barn. I'll give her a few moments to herself." David and Judy enbraced and looked at their sons picture.

Samatha walked into an old barn that was on their property, it wasn't used for much, mostly just there because she had begged her father not to teer it down. She walked into the main part of the barn and looked around.

"Well, I thought I would have to stay here all night." A voice from behind her said.

"I'm sorry," Said Samatha. "This is the first chance I had to get here."

"Another few minutes, I would have left, and well..." Samatha looked at the man standing in front of her.

"Now, now Mr. Starr, you would have done nothing of the sorts, you want the money to bad."

"Maybe, but I usally kill the people I encounter." Frank Starr came out of the darkness and moved closer to Samatha.

"Well, just remember our deal, you help me, and I will help you." Samatha said looking into the stall in front of her.

"I remember, and I'll be expecting you to hold your end up soon." Frank Starr left the old barn and left Samatha to herself. She turned back to look at the stall that was in front of her and kneeled down in the doorway.

"Well, at least, things are working out my way." In the shadows of the stall something moved. "And soon, everything will work out perfectly." Samatha got up and headed towards the house.
