Disclaimer: I don't own any of them.
"Home at last," Joey said as she and Jen drove into their small
hometown of
Capeside.
"Don't you mean, back to the arms of Dawson at last?" Jen
countered,
earning
a dirty look from Joey.
"Believe it or not, Jen, I am looking forward to seeing my
family.
Alex must
be huge now!" Joey stated, hoping to change the subject.
"Sure Joe. Look, all I am saying-"
"I know what you're saying Jen. Ya know how I know? Because
you
haven't
shut up about it for the past two weeks. Jen, the only thing he told
you to
tell me was hello! Big deal! He never pronounced his undying love for
me.
Probably because it no longer exists," Joey said glumly.
"Well that's where you're wrong. He wasn't interested in
anything I
had to
say, unless your name was attached to the sentence. Here we are Joe,"
Jen
said as they pulled in the driveway of Joey's small house. "Do me a
favor.
Get in your rowboat and paddle yourself over to his house tonight.
Crawl in
that window that you know so well and tell him. Maybe then we can all
get a
little sleep."
Joey pulled her bags out of the trunk and said good bye to Jen.
She
made her
way to the front door, struggling with her bags along the way. Before
she
could get to the door, she was bombarded with a very grown and a very
enthusiastic Alex.
"Aunt Joey! Oh I missed you! When is Uncle Dawson coming over
to play
with
me?" the child yelled as he flung his arms around her neck.
Joey smiled nervously and blushed. "Hey kiddo. I missed you
too! I
don't
know about Dawson sweetie. We'll have to see," Joey said, hoping that
he
would forget about playing with his "Uncle Dawson" but knowing that he
wouldn't.
"Let me look at you," Bessie gushed as her maternal instincts
kicked
in.
"Bodie take my sister's bags so I can give her a hug. God Joey, you
look
beautiful. Welcome home little sister."
After chatting for awhile with her family, Joey retreated to her
room,
which
had been added on soon after Alex was born. The memories came flooding
back
as she saw Dawson's framed senior portrait hanging above her bed. "It's
going
to be a long summer," she thought.
Down the creek…
"Here we are Dawson."
"Finally. We should have flown Pace."
"Yeah, well I didn't want to be hot wiring my Dad's car all
summer so I
opted
for the more difficult option. Besides, it gave me more time to bug you
about
what you're going to do about a certain girl who lives down the
creek."
"Give it a rest, will you Pacey! All she said was hello. It's
not as
if
she told you how she still loves me. Probably because she doesn't,"
Dawson
said sadly.
"Take the blinders off Dawson! Go over there tonight and tell
her!
I'm sick
of watching you cry and sulk! If this keeps up I just may have to loan
you
some of Dougie's Streisand videos," Pacey joked.
"Funny Pacey. I'll see you later man."
"Later Dawson," Pacey replied as he sped off.
Dawson was met at the door by his parents. They were ecstatic
to see
him and
fussed over him like he was a newborn, not a college student.
When he finally got away from his proud parents, he dragged his
suitcases up
to his room. The memories came flooding back as he saw Joey's framed
senior
portrait hanging above his bed. "It's going to be a long summer," he
thought.
* * *
Pacey saw a little red convertible coming towards him with a
blonde
head
sticking up from behind the steering wheel. Realizing who it was, he
honked
his horn obnoxiously and stopped his car.
"Jen!"
"Pacey? My God, how are you?" Jen asked when she realized who
had
flagged
her down.
"Just wonderful. Just got done dropping off the oblivious one,
who
spent
most of the trip home whining about a certain girl who he calls a
friend,"
Pacey said in an exasperated tone.
"You too, huh?"
"Yeah, I'll tell ya Jen, if they don't tell each other soon,
it's going
to be
a very long summer."
