If You See Him By Lizzie
Part One in the Series

Disclaimer: I don't own any of em…Wish I did, but I don't.

If you see him, tell him I wish him well
How am I doing? Well, sometimes it's hard to tell
I still miss him more than ever
But please don't say a word
If you see him
If you see him

If you see her, tell her I'm doing fine
And if you want to, say that I think of her from time to time
Ask her if she ever wonders where we both went wrong
If you see her
If you see her

I still want her
And I still need him so
I don't know why we let each other go

If you see her, tell her the light's still on for her
Nothing's changed deep down the fire still burns for him
And even if it takes forever, say I'll still be here
If you see him
If you see her
If you see him
If you see her

Joey flipped off the radio. Tears welled up in her eyes as all of her memories came flooding back. Dawson… The name echoed in her mind and her heart still ached with love for him.

It had been two years since their romance ended. They spent three years together as boyfriend and girlfriend. Both attended a community college after graduation, delaying the "real" college experience just so they could be together. Ultimately, the decision to break up was mutual. Neither of them really wanted to, but both felt that they needed to experience life beyond the walls of Capeside, like Pacey, once he got his act together, and Jen did. Unfortunately this meant that there would be a distance between them.

Joey was accepted to Harvard and was awarded a full academic scholarship. Dawson headed to Stanford to study film. Neither of them thought that it would be fair to carry on a long distance relationship so they decided to end their romantic relationship and just be friends.

Now, nearing the end of her junior year, Joey's feelings for Dawson were still the same. She had seen him occasionally when they came home for breaks and during those breaks they had spent a few movie nights together and gotten together on occasion to have a bite to eat at the Icehouse. After all, they were still friends, right? Unfortunately the occasional letter and occasional meeting was as far as their relationship went. Every time she saw him, she wanted to throw her arms around him, kiss him and tell him how she still loved him and always would.

The words of the song played through her head as she sat on her bed in her dorm room. She picked up the framed picture of her and Dawson from their senior prom that say on her bedside table and held it to her heart as a tear slipped down her cheek.

"Joey! Snap out of it!"

Joey snapped back into reality. She had been so lost in thought that she didn't even hear her roommate and friend, Jen come home from class. Jen kicked off her shoes and threw her book bag on her bed and stared at Joey with sympathy. Jen had gotten over Dawson the minute she saw how happy they made eachother. They were only fifteen but Jen knew even then that they were meant to be together. Her relationship with Joey had become a wonderful friendship and her heart went out to her.

"Sorry Jen, I-"

"Sorry nothing Joe. I know you still love him, but what makes me mad is that your making yourself miserable when you could be so happy! Why can't you let him know? Whenever we go home you act like friendly acquaintances. Call him Joey! Do something about it. Just stop sulking. It's depressing."

Joey smiled at her friend. "I'm sorry, but I just can't. I'm sure he found someone else by now. What if he rejects me? I wouldn't be able to bear it."

"Joey, summer break is only two weeks away. It's the perfect opportunity. Spend time with him. Try to see if he still feels the same, which I'm sure he does. Hell, why wait two weeks? Call him now! Just to see how he's doing," Jen said, thrusting the phone into Joey's hand. "I'll go down to the lounge, come get me when you're done.

Joey sighed and stared at the phone. She punched in a combination of numbers and held her breath as the phone rang.

"Hello?" a voice said.

"Hey jailbait," Joey said with a smile on her face.

"Josephine Potter. Do my ears deceive me?"

"Nope, it's me Pace. How ya doin?"

"Oh I'm just fine. Struggling with some of my classes, but nothing I can't handle. And the love life, well it's stellar as usual. How about-"

"So have you seen Dawson lately?" Joey interrupted.

"Oh, so that's why I have the honor of speaking to you this fine day. I'm hurt Joe," Pacey said feigning a hurt voice.

"I'm sorry Pacey, I just-"

"No Joe, it's okay. I understand. I figured you'd be calling me sooner or later regarding our fine oblivious friend, Dawson. I'm surprised it took you this long. Having a little remorse after all this time, are we?"

"Bite me Pacey. Look, nevermind. I'll see you in a few weeks. If you see him, tell him…tell him I said…hello," she said as she hung up the phone.

"Why couldn't I just call him?" She wondered aloud as she walked down the hall to get Jen from the lounge.
