206 - The Dance

Andie is on Dawson’s room, with Pacey, Joey, and Dawson. She’s dancing to Footloose, which is on TV. She’s excited about the homecoming dance next weekend. “My god, we’re hanging out with Marcia Brady.” “What’s wrong with the school dance?”, Andie asks. They aren’t exactly the school dance type. “We’d rather watch a movie about a high school dance, than actually step inside an over decorated gym.”, Joey says. Pacey adds; “In fact, this indictment of high school conventions isn’t limited to school dances. It kinda covers the whole spectrum of school sponsored events. Case in point -- Joey, how many high school football games you been to?” “None.” “And Dawson, how many pep-rallies have you loyally attended?” “Zero.” Andie isn’t happy. “You guys are a bunch of cynics, you know that? What kinda high school memories are you going to have if all you did was bitch and moan about everything?” “Bitching memories.” “Moaning memories.” “You mean you would rather watch a movie about doing something than actually doing it yourselves?” “Correct.”, Dawson and Joey say. She adds that dancing can be great foreplay. “So who’s coming with me?”

Bessie drops Joey off at school. Joey has something to tell her and she wants an honest sister answer. “Jack kissed me.” Bessie laughs. “What’s the problem?” “Dawson.” “You didn’t tell him did you?” This is something she would have told Dawson the friend but not Dawson the boyfriend. Bessie tells her to pretend like it never happened.

Abby tells Jen that she plans on breaking up Cristy and Brett at the dance. Jen’s not going to the dance.

Dawson wonders why Joey and him don’t talk about sex anymore. Transition from friend to lover. Jen and Abby walk by. Joey thinks they should invite Jen to the dance.

Andie plans on making a dancing fool out of Pacey. He doesn’t dance. They have a little spat of words, but it ends nice. They run into Dawson. Andie wants to invite Jack to come along. Dawson says they should set Jack and Jen up. Pacey’s against it. Nothing good can come from it.

Mitch and Gale want to talk to Dawson. They have decided to spend some time away from each other. This is a conclusion they have reached. “Well I conclude that your conclusion sucks.”

Andie tells Jack that he might meet the woman of his dreams tonight. “Maybe. Maybe I already have.” A police siren whoops. It’s Pacey in a sqad car.

Mitch packs his bags in the truck. He says good-bye and pulls away. Dawson says he can stay home. She tells him to go to the dance.

Andie introduces everyone, and Jack and Jen together.

Dawson and Joey are dancing. Pacey watches Jack and Andie dance. Abby comes over to Jen. She likes Jen’s dress. She has the same one, in a smaller size.

A slow song starts. Joey and Dawson dance. Andie makes Jack dance with Jen. They feel like they are being set up.

Dawson tells Joey about his parents. He wants them to go back to their coffee table antics. He sees a bright side. “The coffee table is now available.” Dawson sees that Jen and Jack are having a good time. Joey gets worked up after he hears Dawson set them up.

Andie asks Pacey again to dance. He won’t. She goes off to find someone who will. Pacey watches Cristy.

Andie finds Jack. Jen goes off to get some air. Andie switches partners with Dawson and Joey. Dawson watches that Joey and Jack aren’t dancing. Joey runs off. Jack goes after her. Jack doesn’t think she’s angry at him kissing her. She’s angry at herself for kissing him back. Jack turns around and Dawson is looking at him with anger. Joey runs off into the bathroom.

Abby and Brett are dancing. Cristy not to be seen.

Jen tells Andie that she’d gonna leave. Andie wants her to stay. Jack shows up and is going to go. “Perfect. Then you can walk her home.” Dawson confronts Jack. “What the hell happened?” “You should talk to Joey about this...” “I’m asking you.” “It was a weird night, the moon was full...” “So you kissed my girlfriend?” “I’m not going to apologize, ‘cause the truth is I’d do it again.” Dawson winds up and punches Jack to the ground.

Pacey sees Cristy in the hall by herself. She’s upset about her relationship. Pacey says that lots of guys would love to replace Brett, him being one of them. she asks to dance with him. He accepts. They dance right there in the hall.

Mitch calls Gale. She’s never realized how big they’re house was until today. But it’s too small for the two of them.

Jack and Jen go off to go home. Andie turns around and sees Pacey dancing with Cristy. She runs off. Pacey stops dancing.

Dawson is leaving the school. Joey stops him. “there’s no justifiable reason why the girl who spent the past 15 years of her life pretending I was the only thing she wanted would end up kissing some other guy and lying about it.” “I didn’t lie to you Dawson.” Joey ends up making Dawson the bad guy. It isn’t about him, it isn’t about them. It’s about her. A crowd gathers to watch.

Jack and Jen arrive at her house. She says that he’s romantic for taking a punch like that for Joey. She thanks Jack for a good time.

On Jack’s way home, Mitch’s truck pulls by. He looks in at Gale, then drives away.

Pacey finds Andie at the docks. “Thought you didn’t dance Pacey?” “You can’t call that dancing.” “No, I’d call it foreplay. But then again we don’t owe each other any explanation. We’re just sparing partners.” “That’s not true. When I ran into Cristy I got sweeped into the moment.” “Too bad I’m not the girl that can sweep you away.” Pacey explains Cristy is just a fantasy. He’s sorry. He wants to dance. She’d love to. They exchange remarks. “Kiss me?” “Thought you’d never ask.”

Dawson returns home to see Joey on his bed waiting. She apologizes again. For so long she wanted him. Now she’s got her dream, and she feels like she doesn’t have anything else. She needs to find her something. Dawson says they’ll find it together. “It can’t include you Dawson.” She goes to climb out the window. “Joey, no! I love you!” “I love you too Dawson.” She heads back to the window. “How can it be over?” “I have to go Dawson. Good night.” She climbs out and cries around the corner. She climbs down the ladder. Dawson flings all the masks off his shelves, and throws some things around. He steps out the window to see Joey running off. He walks over to the ladder and kicks it down from the roof.
