207- The All-Nighter

Dawson is watching a Shakespeare movie with him mom. He points out that most end in tragedy. Gale is crying. The movie is sad. Dawson’s concerned, but she’s more concerned about him. He hasn’t wallowed since his breakup with Joey. “What good is wallowing? All the wallowing in the world isn’t going to bring someone back.” “It isn’t about getting them back. It’s about the advantages of being the dumpee.” Like stuffing your face, country music, bas bitter poetry, reason to scowl, reason to bitch, work out aggression. “Every inch of pain that touches you makes you a deeper more real individual.” Gale leaves the room, stuffing her face. Dawson is laying on his bed and glances over to the window, curtains flapping in the wind. No Joey. He takes a bite of his mom’s licorice.

A teacher, Mr. Peterson, is handing out notes on the English mid-term tomorrow, worth 50% of their term mark. Peterson is sneezing. A guy, Chris, throws a ball of paper on Jen’s desk. She unfold it. Written on it is: “Don’t forget to smile!” She turns around and smiles at him. Peterson has a study session after school for those who wish to attend. Class ends, and Dawson leaves quickly. Joey chases after him. At some point they will have to talk. “What do you want to say?” “Go away?” Dawson yells at her for making up all the rules. Everyone in the hall looks at them.

Andie asks Pacey in the cafeteria if he’s ever been in a meénage a trois? It’s a purity test in her chick magazine. Pacey tells her to put that away. She knows his history. She knows he’s a typical guy that wants everyone to think he’s very sexual, but “your purity level is probably closer to Big Birds than Bill Clinton’s.” “Yeah, you know what? You got me. Embarrassingly pure.” Pacey isn’t attending Petterson’s Cram-o-ramma. “As committed you are to getting an ‘A’, I’m equally committed to getting my ‘C’, or ‘D’ if I can’t get a good enough look at your answers sheet. Give me one good reason why I should go.” “Me.” “OK, fine. I’ll go. Just don’t expect me to stay awake.”

Chris is trying to charm Jen. Jen sees him on his way. Dawson comes over to see Jen. Chris has a love ‘em and leave ‘em reputation. He asks her if she’s going to the study session. She’s not into the applying herself zone these days. Dawson is going. She’ll consider it.

Andie reads a sign on the English door. Mr. Peterson is too sick for the study session. Test is still on for tomorrow. Chris tells Jen they should go to his house for a study session. His parents are away for the weekend. Jen knows his motive. He offers to invite her friends, Pacey and Andie. Andie thinks the city library will be better. Pacey wants to go to Chris’s house. They are loaded. they have a dish. Andie accepts. Chris will drive.

Andie asks Joey to come along. Joey thinks a crying baby is a better environment than Chris Wolfe’s house. Andie says she’s in mega control of this event.

Pacey tells Dawson he’s going to a “different study session”. “This Pacey Witters code for party?” Pacey points out Chris Wolfe’s truck as the ride. Dawson is in. Dawson opens up the door and Joey is sitting in the truck. He gets in.

They enter the house. He points out where the TV, Jacuzzi, sauna, bedroom, and kitchen are. Pacey slips out un-noticed to the TV way. “Sounds like we’re gonna get a lot of studying done”, Joey says to Andie. “Reminder. I’m in complete control here.” We meet the younger sister Dina. Andie notices Pacey is gone. She finds him watching 00 stations. She is in control and rounds him up.

Andie has a plan of studying. 30 minutes each topic, with a few 15 minute breaks. Should be done by midnight. Chris asks if anyone is wants to order a pizza? All but Andie accept. Pacey tells her to look at this as several 15 minute breaks put together.

Chris tells Jen that he doesn’t go by reputations. :the only way to get to know someone is by getting to know them.”

Andie is conducting an English trivia game. Pacey jokes around. Chris wants to heat up the hot tub. He finds Andie’s magazine and the purity test. Andie knows they are too far behind to do that. Chris wins. Andie takes control though.

She hands out a sheet of paper for them to answer on. 100 questions. they pass the book around and ask each other. Final question. “Have you ever been in love? If so, give yourself one point of purity for each time.” Dawson keeps an eye on Joey. Joey tells Dawson in the kitchen that she needs time. Dina has a talk with Dawson. She likes him.

Andie reads out the scores. Chris has the least pure score at 60%, Jen at 69%. Joey and Dawson have an 85%. Andie has a 92%. Pacey didn’t turn his in. Chris asks him if it has anything to do with #16? Andie wants to know what they are talking about. She looks it up. “Have you ever had sex with someone... twice your age? Ha ha. Joke right?” Chris says, “Well it’s true after all. Witter laid the pipe with Miss Jacobs.” Andie doesn’t know why Pacey said he was “embarrassingly pure.” She leaves.

Dawson asks Chris if he knows where they went. “They’re probably out having make-up sex. Everyone know that’s the best kind.” “I wouldn’t know.” Chris says Joey and him are bound to have some serious make-up sex in the future. Chris asks how he’s doing with Jen. She’s different. “Closing this deal will require a different strategy.” “You mean sleeping with her?” “No. I mean a heavy game of UNO.” Chris points out to Dawson that when the light in the guest house is off, that means he’s with Jen, lowering both of their purity levels.

Jen’s looking through some swim-suits to put on. Joey’s just going to study. Jen tries to talk to Joey, but she cuts her short. Jen realizes that’s it’s not there mutual feelings for Dawson, but she’s really a bitch. Joey’s sorry. She just doesn’t feel like talking. She want’s to have something to experience. Jen does too.

Pacey finds Andie. She asks him why he never said that. “It never came up.” “Wrong. It did and you lied.” She wants to know why he did it. “Sex?” “No, I don’t want to know why anymore. Your not like that.” “Of course I’m like that. I’m a sexual creature, and so are you.” Pacey says she’s gonna have to accept his past if they are going to have a future.

Dawson warns Jen that Chris doesn’t have the best of intentions. Jen knows that, but she doesn’t have to go along with his plan. Dina asks Dawson which one’s the one he put down as loving. She has the answer sheets. She will show him Joey’s for a kiss. Not gonna happen. Dina says Joey’s been in love twice.

Jen and Chris have a kiss in the hot tub. He’s not a bas guy, he just wants to have fun.

Dawson asks Pacey why he just didn’t write “No”. “Didn’t want to lie to her.”

Dawson confronts Joey about being in love twice. He assumes it to be Jack. She just wants to be friends. Dina comes in behind Dawson. He goes nuts and tells her not to rush kissing, ‘cause it changes everything. She runs off crying. Dawson looks up to the guest house to see the light is off.

Joey tells Dina that growing up is hard. Not all kisses are magical and most boys do not live up to expectations. But there are those times when everything falls together perfectly.

Dawson falls asleep studying. He wakes up to see everyone else sleeping. Andie wakes up. It’s 6 am. Andie wakes everyone up. She’s frantic.

Chris is putting his shirt on. Jen rolls over in bed. He leans down and they kiss. Chris picks up his watch off the night table. We see some condom wrappers. He thanks Jen for a fun night.

Pacey takes charge of the cram. They finish but Pacey has one last group activity. He sprints out the door. They all sprint out of the house and jump in the pool.

Andie tells Pacey she understands why he didn’t jump forward with his info. She was shocked by the fact that he has so much experience. “I... um... I...” “...will.” “Your such a jerk. “ A slacker jerk.” “Champion slacker jerk.” “What does that make you?” “I don’t know Pacey. You tell me. I dare you.” “You, Andie McPhee, are the girl I love to hate.” “I love to hate you too.” They kiss.

Dawson tells Joey that he wants to take back there first kiss. Maybe they’d be friends now. But then he thinks of everything that kiss brought into his life. It’s all worth it. Two times she fell in love were both with Dawson. First as a friend, than a lover.

Dawson sees Dina sleeping on a couch. He goes over and kisses her on the forehead. She opens her eyes and smiles.

Dawson reads another note on the door. His illness has claimed another day. Teat rescheduled. “Now what are we supposed to do?” “Go to our other classes I guess.” Pacey interrupts. “I’v got one last group activity. Follow me.” He leads them to the football field. They all lay in a circle on the school logo, sleeping.
