My steps didn't falter but neither did my head follow the rest of my body. My eyes were glued to a stranger standing in a corner, watching me.
Half turn, stomp, clap.
The song ended and with it the dance. I smiled to myself as I turned off the stereo. Then I turned back around and caught sight of the stranger. I hadn't heard him come in but then, with the music playing, I wouldn't have heard anything less than a herd of horses. What was he doing here? I had been practicing alone, before hours, in my friend's bar. No one else was supposed to be here. "Hello," I said. "May I help you?"
He came into the light and for the first time I saw his eyes. That is one pair of eyes I will never forget. "I was wondering if I could use your phone?"
I lead him over to the bar and the phone behind it. "Have at it. I'm going to get a drink. Would you like anything?" "A beer would be nice."
I went into the kitchen and grabbed a beer for the stranger. For myself I selected a bottle of COLD water. As we stood at the bar drinking, he turned those gorgeous green eyes on me. "What you were doing earlier looked like fun." "Line dancing?"
"Is that what you call it? Would you teach me?" He gave me a smile. I lunged for my water and quickly made my decision. I would teach him the dance. While not a good dance for first-timers, the temptation of teaching THIS man the Tush Push proved to be more than I could resist. It took half an hour but I finally got him dancing flawlessly to Kevin Sharp's "If You Love Somebody".
"Thank-you," He said at the end of our time before exiting into the afternoon glare.
I looked around the bar which now felt emptier than before and
realized that all I had to prove his existence was the name Adam Pierson
and an empty beer bottle on the bar.
