dreamt by Vicki/Nylessa
Involved: Jedar Stormwing, Rio deJeneiro, Tarrin Avias, Wade Chandelle, Tristan del Acero, and Matrix "Eon" Jabiru.
Note from Vicki: You may find some of this familiar, if you've read the BOTB story "Another Time and Place". That fic was based on this dream. But if you thought that story was weird, keep reading, because the dream was a lot weirder ;P
Okay, well, the first part of the dream was confusing - it involved liquid gold that was black until it sat in your hand, whereupon it became transparent blue with shining golden streaks. It also involved the BOTB-verse characters of Jedar, Rio, Tarrin, Wade, Tristan and Matrix, and some others that I can't quite remember. I just know there was a battle scene somewhere in it, and that Jedar's team won, but that Rio, Tarrin and Wade were all on the baddies side. That's all I can glean through looking back. I'm sure it all made much more sense while I was dreaming it.
The second part of the dream (I semi woke up after this, fell back asleep a minute later) was not quite as confusing and I can remember a bit more detail about it. It was going back over some of the scenes I'd seen earlier, almost like a movie replay that showed more than the original showing. This happens to me a lot.
As far as I can tell, Rio was commanding officer of a large army that mined this strange liquid gold. They guarded the stuff and the profit they got jealously, not letting anyone else have it. With the money gained (I'm not sure what they did with the stuff, maybe it was the metal used to make their coins? ;)) they became a Mafia-like organization, with Rio as its leader. This organization began to dabble in everything, including politics, and before long had taken over the entire commercial market. It's all about profit.
A small band of citizens don't like this at all - they begin to infiltrate the Organization, in the hope of finding something out that will bring about their downfall. In addition, they perform raids on the gold mines, which are the source of the Organization's wealth; but they can never secure the site, only make off with a few handfuls of the stuff.
Then Jedar came into the picture. Now I'd just like to note that my brain never actually supplied a name for Rio - it was Rio in every way except there was no name; until this point she was really just 'the commanding officer', but now she was 'Jedar's old best friend'. I'm guessing that in this they were friends since childhood, but that may not be right - in any case, they WERE best friends through their years in the army. And then Jedar left the army; apparently without resigning, because there was a bit of a row between him and Tristan, who (with Tarrin) was one of Rio's right hand men. I can't give you any more detail on that.
Then there was a huge gap; probably almost five months, all things judging. And Tristan defected to the rebel group. I think he was horrified by something Rio had done, and realized that she was totally drunk with power and corrupt as all hell.
Another blurr of action later, during which Wade (who'd been in before, briefly) either defected or was killed, I don't know because that was a very indistinct thing. I believe he was killed, however, because the next scene points to an ambush on a gold truck by the rebel group. Tarrin was saying something like:
"They knew where we were going to be, when we were going to be there, and how many of us were there - they knew everything they needed to make a successful ambush. Our problem is obvious. We have a spy. Perhaps more than one."
Rio: "Who do you think?" (She'd lost her accent along with her sanity)
Tarrin: "If I were to make an educated guess, I'd say Matrix... and... Jedar."
Matrix was a computer specialist who had obvious rebel sympathies, so Rio believed that without a problem, but Jedar was apparently sharing her bed at the time (!!!) so she was more reluctant to believe that he was one of them. In fact, she yelled her head off at Tarrin for suggesting it. In any case, Tarrin sent men to take Matrix to be immediately executed - except he'd already escaped and joined the rebels.
Jedar is one of the rebels, in fact one of their leading members, and he was the one who'd urged Tristan to join after the man was shaken into reality by whatever cruel thing Rio did... He also smuggled Matrix out, after getting him to help transmit the exact details of the next shipment to the rebels. Although Rio was infatuated with him (!!!), it was definitely only a one-way thing. The woman was cruel and unbalanced, and boy did it show...
He still couldn't shake their old friendship away, however, and he couldn't make himself carry out his second lot of orders -- to assassinate her. So he was going through a lot of internal conflict at the time that Rio was arriving to confront him.
And, at that crucial point, I woke up.
