The Longest Hunt starred Brain Kelly as a gunslinger.
This movie had a simple story. An American gunslinger is hired to retrieve a couple's son. The movie started out in Mexico where the gunslinger is after a man. The gunslinger kills a few of the local gunslingers. The boss of the gunslingers gives the American one a choice. The choice is to bring back the boss's son, or die. The American chooses to take the job.
The Longest Gun cannot be viewed by the entire family. This movie is full of gun battles and bloodshed. This movie is not intended for a young audience.I give this movie a 1 on a scale of 0 to 5. This was a low budget western that was trying to capitalize on the success of the Clint Eastwood westerns in the late 1960's.
The Cops Were Robbers as seen on TRU-W 1/20/03 at 12:30pm Eastern.
The Cops Were Robbers starred Ray Sharkey.
This entire movie was about police corruption. A police captain was the head of a small gang of criminals. The entire gang was made up of police officers. The gang enlisted the help of a known bank robber to help in the bank robbery. The bank robbery was the main focus of the movie. The crooked cops would be sent to jail if enough evidence can be found to tie the crooked cops with the bank robbery. No real evidence was ever found to tie the criminals with early robberies.
The Cops Were Robbers cannot be viewed by the entire family. There are scenes with explicit drug use. I give this movie a 2¼ on a scale of 0 to 5. This movie was based on a true story. One could think that how safe are our towns when there is a possibilty of police officers like those shown in the movie are protecting our communities.
The Scorpion King as seen on On Demand 1/26/03.
The Scorpion King starred The Rock as an assassin who became a king.
The Scorpion King is a prequel to The Mummy Returns. The The Scorpion King is about an assassin who is hired to kill a sorceress. This assignment turned out to be a trap. The assassin then seeks vengeance on the men who set him up.
The Scorpion King cann be viewed by the entire family. There are scenes with some excessive violence. I give this movie a 2½ on a scale of 0 to 5. This movie was loaded with action, but some of the modern dialogue was not approriate for the time period in which the movie was set. Wrestling superstar The Rock is beleivable as an action hero. The Rock could be considered the Arnold Swazenegger of the twenty-first century.
All The Right Moves as seen on LOV-E 1/20/03 at 8:00pm Eastern.
All The Right Moves starred Tom Cruise as a high school football player.
All The Right Moves is about a high school football player who wants to earn a college scholarship to play football and study engineering. The player almost destroys his chance at a scholarshio because of a bad attitude.
All The Right Moves cannot be viewed by the entire family. There are scenes with underage drinking, abusive language, and mild nudity. I give this movie a 2¼ on a scale of 0 to 5. Tom Cruise was believable in this movie. The background story of a small town's econmic problems was good. The town's main industry was laying off its workforce. I did not care for the romantic interest between the football player and his girlfriend who was a marching band member. One of the other players was arrested for armed robbery, but it is not stated that the suspect was found guilty or not. I would have liked this movie better if it had more on the towns economic problems.
The Rainmaker as seen on Channel 12 from Philadelphia 2/7/04 at 8:00pm Eastern.
Channel 12 is the Philadelphia PBS station. It runs movies in their undedited versions from time to time.
The Rainmaker starred Burt Lancaster as a con man, and Katherine Hepburn as a single woman.
The Rainmaker is about how a con man changes the lives of two members of a family. Starbuck, played by Burt Lancaster, rides into a town that is suffering from drought. He claims that he can make it rain within twenty four hours for a $100 down payment. A farmer takes him up on the offer with reservations from two members of the farmer's family.
The farmer has two sons and a daughter. All three children have problems. The oldest son thinks that he has to solve all the problems of the farm and of the family. He is against the rainmaker. The youngest son and the daughter have self estem issues. The youngest son is not the brightest of the family. The older brother is always saying how stupid his younger brother is. The daughter, played by Katherine Hepburn, claims that she is a plain woman that no man wants to marry. She is also against the rainmaker, but has a change in attitude. Starbuck helps the younger brother and the daughter overcome their issues.
The Rainmaker can be viewed by the entire family. This movie is well acted, but some of the scences are rather silly. The movie had a good story too it. I give this movie a 2¼ on a scale of 0 to 5. I would have given a better rating if this movie was completly serious. Why the older brother needs to solve all the problems is never revealed. I also would have liked to have known why there was no mother involved. Was the farmer a widower or divorced man? Was the mother's abscence the cause of all the children's problems? I have seen other reviews where thils movie had a rating of 3. I can't go that high due to the fact of the unanswered questions.
