First Runner-up - Miriam Quiambao, Philippines interview - 8.78 (9th) swimsuit - 9.32 (2nd) evening gown - 9.42 (2nd) average - 9.17 (5th) top5 interview - 9.45 (3rd) Before landing in Trinidad & Tobago, Miriam spend 10 days in Venezuela where she got some preparation classes from Osmel Sousa, Venezuela's producer of international beauty queens. It paid off. After an accident during the preliminaries (she tripped during the evening gown competion), Miriam stood up with grace and courage and almost got it all. Although strong in swimsuit and gown, her answers during the interviews were not the best. |

Miss Universe - Mpule Kwelagobe, Miss Botswana interview - 9.05 (5th) swimsuit - 9.18 (4th) evening gown - 9.36 (4th) average - 9.20 (4th) top5 interview - 9.49 (2nd) Mpule means "the one who brings the rain". She is 19 years old, 5' 10" tall, and she is the only woman in her electrical engineering class. Although she was a major favorite to make the top 10, not many people expected her to win. With an average performance in the semi-finals, she came out strong in the last two interviews. She has all it takes to be a great Miss Universe. |

Second Runner-up - Diana Nogueira, Miss Spain interview - 8.90 (7th) swimsuit - 9.33 (1st) evening gown - 9.45 (1st) average - 9.22 (3rd) top5 interview - 9.64 (1st) Luckly the preliminary judges noticed Diana. Not a favorite during the three weeks preceeding the pageant, she suddenly became a favorite on her own merits. Miss Spain won the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, drove half planet crazy when asked by host Jack Wagner to turn around during the top 5 interview with her sexy nude back and charming accent, but lack of confidence answering the final question took the crown she was so close to win. |

Finalist (4th place) - Carolina Indriago, Miss Venezuela interview - 9.23 (3rd) swimsuit - 9.08 (6th) evening gown - 9.38 (3rd) average - 9.23 (1st) top5 interview - 9.35 (4th) Carolina was the greatest favorite to win Miss Universe. The first black woman to win her national contest ever, she was on the top of experts and Trinidad & Tobago locals' lists. A bad evening gown choice and very poor and over-rehearsed answers to her interview questions were enough only for a 4th place, which, after all, was not bad at all. |

Finalist (5th place) - Sonia Raciti, Miss South Africa interview - 9.24 (2nd) swimsuit - 9.32 (2nd) evening gown - 9.13 (7th) average - 9.23 (1st) top5 interview - 9.24 (5th) Also far from being a top contender, Miss South Africa not only made the top 10, but she also advanced to the finals winning in first place (tied with Miss Venezuela). Sonia was smart and had a "knock-out" body, contrasting with an ordinary face and the "over-rehearsed factor". A 5th place was more than good for Miss South Africa. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Semi-Finalist (6th place) - Gul Panag, Miss India interview - 9.27 (1st) swimsuit - 8.77 (10th) evening gown - 9.16 (6th) average - 9.07 (6th) Gul impressed everyone with her brains and personality. Nevertheless, some extra pounds were responsible for her not doing better or even winning the pageant. She had the most captivating eyes and smile, a truly representative of beauty with a soul. |

Semi-Finalist (7th place) - Silvia Salgado, Miss Mexico interview - 8.61 (10th) swimsuit - 9.14 (5th) evening gown - 9.23 (5th) average - 8.99 (7th) Silvia probably has the most beautiful face Mexico has ever produced for a Miss Universe pageant. For some reason, she did not shine on stage though. Moreover, she made a bad choice when she decided to speak in her limited English during the semi-final interview, costing her a 10th place and good-bye to a second Miss U crown for her country. |

Semi-Finalist (8th place)- Brenda Lopez, Miss Puerto Rico interview - 9.08 (4th) swimsuit - 8.80 (8th) evening gown - 9.08 (8th) average - 8.98 (8th) In her great semi-final interview, maybe we could find the reason why she did not go any further. That whole bunch of swiss chocolate she talked about might have gone straight to her voluptuous thighs and hips, seen in the swimsuit competition, when she started loosing points. Her evening gown choice was not very happy as well, killing her chances to keep fighting for the crown. This beautiful and sensual woman deserved to win the Miss Photogenic prize though. |

Semi-Finalist (10th place)- Akuba Cudjoe, Miss Ghana interview - 8.85 (8th) swimsuit - 8.78 (9th) evening gown - 8.68 (10th) average - 8.77 (10th) Another huge surprise, this sweet and exotic African woman helped us to open our eyes to less conventional beauty types. Her colorfull wardrobe and incredibly smooth skin were some of Ghana's first ever Miss U semi-finalist great attributes. |

Semi-Finalist (9th place)- Nicole Haughton, Miss Jamaica interview - 9.00 (6th) swimsuit - 8.87 (7th) evening gown - 8.75 (9th) average - 8.87 (9th) A surprising semi-finalist, Nicole was her country's only third representative to make the semi-finals. Her energy, beautiful body and great communication skills allowed her to overcome the odds and leave many favorites behind. |
