"Misses" That Were Hits | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Although they did not make the cut, staying out of Miss Universe 99 finals, for one reason or another they made headlines and are not to be forgotten. Here are the "Misses" who were hits: Miss France, Mareva Galanter - Mareva was on the top of everyone's favorites' lists, experts or not. This beautiful woman from Tahiti was the number one favorite to win the crown. Now we can only wish her better luck in the upcoming Miss World pageant. Miss Israel, Rana Raslan - She will be always remembered as the first Arab to win a Miss Israel crown. With one of the best bodies seen in Trinidad, Rana was another huge favorite who failed to get to the finals. She will be also competing in Miss World. Miss Brazil, Renata Fan - The only contestant to keep internet surfers informed of what was going on behind the scenes of Miss Universe 99, Renata was one of Osmel Sousa's (Venezuela's beauty wizard) favorites. Do we need to say more? Renata is one of the most accomplished and intelligent Misses Brazil ever. Miss USA, Kimberly Ann Pressler - Kim was only the third Miss USA not to make the top 10 in 47 years of Miss Universe history. The last time it happened was in 1976. Miss Bolivia, Susana Barrientos - a pageant veteran, Susana has done well in many international pageants. She was a locals' favorite in Trinidad, but Bolivia's hope for a third Miss Universe semi-finalist faded away when the ones who actually made it were called. Miss Panama - Yamani Saied - some say she looks like Sandra Bullock; others compare her to Miss Universe 86, Barbara Palacios, or even to Snow White! Either way, Yamani's beauty was stunning. She probably missed the finals by little. Miss Colombia, Marianella Maal Pacini - she was Global Beauties' Miss U 99 Miss Photogenic. Miss Portugal, Marisa Ferreira - Marisa had good chances to be Portugal's first semi-finalist ever at this pageant. If she failed to do so, at least she won the Miss Congeniality prize, voted by her fellow contestants. Miss Bahamas, Glennis Knowles - another country that could have had its first Miss U finalist ever was the Bahamas. Although this Caribbean beautiful policewoman did everything right, the judges did not pick her. Miss Yugoslavia, Ana Karic - in other times who would expect a country in the middle of a war with the United State to send a representative to such an international event? Well, luckly Miss Yugoslavia was there, a nice surprise to the world. Miss Sweden, Emma Helena Nilsson - this Scandinavian goddess really shined on stage. Miss Argentina, Elena Fournier - for many Miss Argentina and her daring, sexy skirts were vulgar; there were even rumors that she was a porno actress; I prefer to see Elena as a free-spirited woman who really enjoys life and who is very true to herself and to others. Cheers! Miss Guam, Tisha Elaine Heflin - a pregnant contestant who had to leave the pageant earlier caused this year's scandal and controversy and raised the question: if Miss Universe becomes pregnant during her reign, should she resign? What do you think? |
