First off, the Mega Man history! WARNING! Spoilers!
In a vastly populated and technological world named Megaland, there lived a brilliant scientist. His name was Dr. Thomas Xavier Light.
Dr. Light was very skilled in the field, but his biggest acheivements lie in robots. The land almost always had robots-but he decided to elaborate on it. He would make a robot that could help more than the ones that existed. Ones to do jobs too dangerous or difficult for humans, or ones that required extreme care. In this, he began to develop a humanoid robot.
It turned out to be a success. His creation could do anything told to with precise accuracy. But he decided to keep it around before he let it become public so he could be sure of its safety. The last thing Dr. Light wanted was a robot nobody knew about to go out and terrorize.
But his robot did nothing of the sort and obeyed Dr. Light. He was mainly a welding robot, using dual welding cannons. Dr. Light originally wanted to call him 'Protoman', possibly derived from a mix of human and prototype, but the robot easily outlived that name. Dr. Light decided on 'Break Man'.
All went well for a while. Then one day Dr. Light was working on a project of his, and suddenly something went wrong. Dr. Light stumbled back in shock. Break Man dashed forward to guard Dr. Light from what was about to unfold. In an explosion of light, Dr. Light found himself just fine. But, when he looked about, Break Man was gone!
After some more thinking, Dr. Light decided to build another. He named this robot, 'Rock.' Rock was mainly a tool user, so he fixed things mainly. He turned out to be just as good as Break Man. Exact parallels, even.
Dr. Light began to grow excited on how this was going. They really could help! So, he and his partner, Dr. Wily, began to lay out plans for more robots. They would be called 'Robot Masters', since they would supervise lesser robots in tasks as well as do their own.
All went according to plan. Dr. Light and Dr. Wily built six robot masters, each designed to do a specific jobs too dangerous, advanced, or difficult for humans. One day, however, Dr. Wily was working in the lab and had an accident that made him turn to evil ways. His first dastardly task was to steal the robot masters, and he reprogrammed them. He tried to reprogram Rock, but he held out long enough for Wily to give up and continue.
When Dr. Light got air of this, he was beside himself. He just couldn't believe Dr. Wily would do such a thing. And he knew of the robot masters' capabilities as well. They could destroy anything, and there was nothing he could do.
But, Rock offered to stop Dr. Wily.
Dr. Light figured there was nothing to lose, so he upgraded Rock's systems to shoot plasma and use robot master weapons, and renamed him 'Mega Man.'

Mega Man was successful. He defeated the robot masters and Wily. All was quiet for another six months, until Dr. Wily attacked with eight more robot masters-all designed to fight! Dr. Light knew Mega Man would once again volunteer, so when he did, Dr. Light offered to clone Mega Man so he would have a greater advantage. But, once more something went awry. Instead of being cloned, Mega Man was turned into a bioroid-a living, feeling robot.
Dr. Light was astounded by this, but Mega Man still chose to go after Wily.

Once more, Mega Man destroyed the robot masters and Wily escaped. Mega Man was just getting use to factors in battles, like pain and emotion. But he would deal with them.
Then, Dr. Wily pretended to have found himself again, and to prove it, he offered to help Dr. Light build a huge peace-keeping robot named 'Gamma.'
The robot would be very large, and to power it, not only would vast amounts of energy be needed, but also special energy crystals. These crystals were found in mines that robots were sent to collect.
Before Gamma was complete, yet another set of eight robot masters stormed the mines and stole the crystals. Once more, Mega Man elected to go stop them and retrieve the energy crystals.
Along the way and between battles, Mega Man encountered someone who was a lot like him, but he didn't know who the robot was. The two would fight for a few moments, and the mysterious robot would leave.
Eventually, Mega Man returned all the crystals but remained stuck to fight several incarnations of previous robot masters. He came out on top and returned, only to find that Dr. Wily had stolen the crystals and Gamma! Mega Man set out to find his fortress.
Mega Man did defeat him, and when the fort began to collapse, Mega Man saw a huge boulder fall on Dr. Wily. Then the same happened to Mega Man.
When the blue bomber woke up, he was in Dr. Light's lab. "Who could have brought you here?" Dr. Light asked. Then the robot Mega Man battled with earlier showed up. It was Break Man!
Dr. Light couldn't believe Break Man had returned, and he was a lso a bioroid by some acciedent at Dr. Wily's. It was a long story, but Break Man believed Dr. Wily was still Dr. Light's ally, so he obeyed him. Break Man had been gone for almost two years and didn't know what was going on. But, it was he who saved Mega Man, and the two found they were brothers. But, they couldn't believe Dr. Wily was really dead.

Some time later, Mega Man, with no Wily around, feels he still can help. So, when Princess Lana calls to assemble the strongest fighters from different areas of Videoland, of course Mega Man would help!
So, Mega Man joins the N-Team, which is composed of Lana, Simon Belmont, Kid Icarus, himself, and a bit later, Kevin. Otherwise known as Captain N: The Game Master!
The N-Team goes through a series of adventures, but even though Mega Man now stays at the Palace of Power mostly, he still likes to go back to Megaland once in awhile to see Dr. Light and Break Man.
Anyway, one day Mega Man is outside doing minor guard duty. He feels that the rest of the N-Team doesn't respect him because he is a robot. This is not true at all, because they throw him a birthday party. Even with that off his shoulders, he feels like he wants to be a human. He then finds out about the Warp of Life, a mysterious entity, which Mega Man finds out can turn him to human! So the N-Team sets out to find it.
After three difficult quests, they find it, and Mega Man is changed into being a human. And the Warp of Life wishes him a happy birthday!
So for a few days Mega Man is finally what he wanted to be. Human. But, it is short-lived, because another evil scientist has challenged Mega Man to a battle, with eight robot masters of his own! The N-Team, or even Break Man for that matter couldn't help. Break Man went to visit the Warp of Life himself, and the N-Team has yet to be discovered where they were. So, after some arguing, Mega Man is changed back into a bioroid by Dr. Light. Then he sets off to defeat this new scientist, Dr. Cossack.
Of course Mega Man trashes them all, and then goes to fight Cossack. But, right before Mega Man could deliver the finishing blow, Break Man teleported in with a girl. Dr. Cossack almost passes out form happiness and jumps down to embrace her. It's Dr. Cossack's daughter, Kalinka! Break Man rescued her! But then, an all too familiar face pops in. Dr. Wily! He was using he Kalinka as a hostage. This forced Dr. Cossack to fight Mega Man, or no telling what Wily would have done with Kalinka.
Cossack apologizes, and Break Man says something startling: The Warp of Life was destroyed.
Mega Man is sad for himself and his borhter, but he goes after Wily once more.
(This is the story behind Mega Man 4.)
Mega Man returns successful once more, but again Dr. Wily escaped. After another few months, eight more robot masters emerge, terrorizing Megaland. And who could they be led by? Break Man!
Mega Man sets out to defeat the robot masters yet again, and after he does, goes after his brother. After fighting his way through Break Man's fortress, he confronts the red and white robot. A whistle rings through the air, and another Break Man is there! Mega Man is confused. The one who just arrived shoots at the other, and it changes to it's true form! It was a cheap clone of Break Man who led the robot masters! Mega Man disposes of him and finds Wily was behind it again. Go figure. So our hero sets off to do battle with the infamous scientist once again.
(This is the story behind Mega Man 5.)
Mega Man returns to the N-Team and Dr. Light once again, but with bad news. Wily got away. And they continue on with their business afterward. A few months later, they get air of a robot design contest in Megaland, and they all go to see it. Actually, it seemed that about all anybody built were robot masters. But they didn't seem to notice. The strange Mr. X who was sponsoring the event announced something strange when it came down to the final 8 designs. He claims to have been using Wily these past years. He then steals the robot masters and Mega Man sets out to defeat him.
After stomping the robot masters, Mega Man fights through Mr. X's fort until he reaches the man himself. It turns out to be Dr. Wily.(Who'd a thunk it?)
Mega Man then fights through Dr. Wily's castle until he gets to Wily. When he beats him this time, however, Mega Man captures him! Wily is ranting and raving as he is sent to jail.
(This is the story behind Mega Man 6.)
Mega Man and his allies enjoyed the victory for the time it lasted, about six months. Then four robot masters arose from no where(Wily is in jail, after all)and began to rampage the city to find their creator. Mega Man got there just in time to see the four destroy the prison and see Dr. Wily escape. On the way to the robot masters, Mega Man encountered a strange robot. His name was Bass, and he claimed to be trying to stop Wily until Mega Man got there. Mega Man and Bass were considered allies by each in Mega Man's eyes then, and Mega Man continued to fight the robot masters. They were easily disposed of.
Mega Man returned to Dr. Light to query about Bass, and Dr. Light thought they were friends as well. Then a monitor lit up, informing the two that Dr. Wily was attacking the robot museum. Mega Man left for there and saw Dr. Wily making off with a robot master, and leaving Mega Man to fight a strange robot. Mega Man won, of course, and found that Dr. Wily had another four robot masters for him to tangle with. Along the way, Mega Man found Bass badly injured and sent him to Dr. Light's for repair.
When Mega Man defeated the final robot master, he went back to Dr. Light's lab. The place was practically destroyed! Dr. Light told Mega Man that it was Bass. Then a monitor lit up with Dr. Wily on it, telling the two that Bass was his creation. Mega Man went off to Dr. Wily's compound once more.
