BCUH HALLWAY/DAY
LILA walks into the hallway, CASS right behind her. Wrapping her
arms around herself, she glances around nervously.
LILA
This is it…moment of truth day.
CASS
Honey, this will only confirm what you and Donna know as truth.
It's not as though this is going to be a major shock…
LILA
Unless it's not true.
CASS
Well, that's doubtful, and we both know it.
LILA
I'm just ready to put all of this behind us. Nothing has to
change, this doesn't mean that Donna has to become Auntie Donna
to Jasmine, or I have to play the role of doting aunt to Vicky
and Marley.
CASS
This is your chance to get to know a family you didn't have
growing up. Don't let that pass by.
LILA
(sighing)
I have all of the family I need in you, and Charlie, and Jasmine.
MORGAN walks up behind them.
MORGAN
(grinning)
Don't forget about me.
Lila turns around, smiling at him.
LILA
Who could forget about you? Although, with the hours you've been
working, it seems as though the hospital wants us to forget about
you. When are you coming over for dinner?
MORGAN
Soon…I tried easing into this position, but apparently it
necessitates that I throw myself into it instead. Once I get
things straight around here, you'll have me over for dinner more
than you can stand it.
CASS
Never…you're always welcome.
MORGAN
What are you two doing here? Come to visit Vicky and the twins?
Cass and Lila exchange a look.
CASS
Not exactly…
LILA
I've come for the results of my DNA testing…to find out
whether Reginald Love really is my father.
MORGAN
Ahhh…well, if you want, I'll go grab the test results for
you. John did the testing, didn't he?
Lila nods.
MORGAN
Okay. You just missed him…he headed home with Sharlene and
Gregory. It's been a busy couple of days here. But I'll be right
back…don't move.
He moves off down the hallway as Donna comes from the other
direction.
DONNA
Lila, Cass…good, you're here. Have you gotten the results
yet?
LILA
(shaking her head)
Morgan just went to get them. How are Vicky and the twins?
DONNA
(beaming)
Gorgeous, of course.
CASS
Do they have names yet? I can't believe VICKY managed to keep it
a secret this long.
DONNA
They do, but I think she and Jake want to tell you themselves.
They'll be checking out soon, but they'd appreciate it if you'd
stop by after we get the results.
LILA
(looking doubtful)
You're sure about that?
DONNA
(with a smile)
Positive. Take my word for it.
As they grow into an uncomfortable silence, Morgan returns.
MORGAN
(holding the envelope in the air)
I've got the results.
LILA
(impatiently)
And?
Morgan glances from Lila to Donna to Cass, then slides the
results from the envelope.
MORGAN
According to this, Lila, there is a 99.9% probability that you
are Reginald Love's biological daughter. In other words, there is
virtually no room for error.
DONNA
(in a whisper)
It's true….
LILA
I can't believe it…that monster is my father…
DONNA
That monster is OUR father…we're sisters, Lila.
Donna and Lila stare at each other in disbelief.
CUT TO:
BCU REGISTRATION/SAME DAY
TITO and REMY stand in the registrar's office uncomfortably.
HAYLEY watches them from across the room, with interest, until KC
engages her in a conversation.
TITO
So…here to sign up for classes?
REMY
Well, what else would I be doing at registration, Tito?
TITO
(holding up his hands)
Whoa…
REMY
Sorry…how are you doing?
TITO
Haven't been sent to prison in the last four months…I'd say
I'm doing pretty well.
REMY
(making a face)
Ha-ha. I meant how are you doing after…after…
TITO
The adoption?
REMY
Yeah…
TITO
(shrugs)
I'm managing. Nothing else I can do, really…it's not like I
have a choice. I just have to try to forget that my son has new
parents now.
REMY
You'll always be his father, TITO.
TITO
No, I'll always just be the guy who got his biological mother
pregnant. Fathers don't count, Rem. Not when it comes to
something like this…
REMY
That's ridiculous, Tito! Of course you count!
TITO
No one looks at a biological father the same way they look at a
biological mother. The mothers are seen as making this huge
sacrifice for their babies. Fathers are just looked at like they
screwed up…and adoption's an easy way out.
REMY
Hardly easy, Tito.
TITO
Oh, yeah? What about you? Do you have any idea who your father
is?
REMY
(slowly)
No…but I know Paulina will tell me when she's ready.
TITO
Yeah, but when you thought about looking for your parents, you
were really just wanting to look for your mother, right? Your
father was an afterthought.
REMY
Tito…I know you're just hurting right now. You don't really
believe any of this.
TITO
I don't know what I believe anymore…(he laughs)…do you
know that before the baby was born…I kept thinking maybe we
could do it, maybe I could marry Hayley and we could raise our
baby together. But of course, that didn't happen. And now,
instead of watching our son grow, I'm going to college. I can't
have both.
REMY
You did the right thing, Tito.
TITO
I know. In my head, I know we did the right thing. But in my
heart…I can't stop the hurt, Rem. The last thing I want is
for that little boy to grow up thinking his parents didn't want
him.
REMY
And Gary and Josie won't let him grow up thinking that. You know
that.
TITO
(shrugging)
I should know it, I guess…look, I've got to go get back in
line. I'll catch you later.
He gives her a quick hug, then goes back over to registration.
She stares after him for a minute, then leaves.
CUT TO:
LORNA'S HOUSE/SAME DAY
FELICIA walks over to JENNA, giving her a quick hug.
JENNA
What was that for?
FELICIA
Just to let you know that I still love you…
JENNA
(with a wry smile)
I wasn't doubting that.
FELICIA
This has been a tense couple of days for all of us. And I know
you aren't exactly thrilled by the events that have taken place.
JENNA
Yeah, well, it's not like they can be changed. Hayley's become a
part of this family, and I'll just have to deal with it.
FELICIA
Sweetheart, it's not as if we intentionally left you out of these
decisions with her. You weren't here.
JENNA
(quietly)
I was a phone call away.
FELICIA
And every time we picked up that phone, you seemed less than
interested in what we had to say about her. We DID ask you to
come home sooner than this.
JENNA
And I told you that I couldn't. Look, let's just drop the
subject, okay?
FELICIA
I won't drop this. I refuse to let this uneasiness continue
between you and her. You're both putting Lorna and I in a bad
position, and I want it to stop.
JENNA
Fine. I'll be nice to Hayley. I won't cause problems, I won't
give her a hard time…
FELICIA
I don't want this to be a CHORE for you, Jenna. I want you to get
to know her and to like her for who she is. I want you to spend
some time with her and learn to care about her because you do,
not because I'm forcing you to do it.
JENNA
I will…I'll…I'll take her out to dinner or something
this week, I promise. Okay? I will make an effort.
FELICIA
That's all I'm asking.
A child's voice, GABRIELLE, is heard babbling off-screen. Felicia
glances towards the hallway, not hearing Lorna come from her
bedroom.
FELICIA
Seems someone has woken up from her nap. I'll go get her.
JENNA
(nodding)
Yeah…I need to call Dean, anyway.
As Felicia leaves the room, she goes for the telephone, dialing a
number, then waiting.
JENNA
Hi…it's me…yeah, everything here is fine…I'm going
to stay longer…well, if you won't come here, then I don't
see how we're going to work this out…I'm not coming back
there, Dean! This is not MY issue, this is YOUR issue! And if you
don't care enough about me to come back here and work things out,
then I can't do a damn thing about it! Fine…maybe we should
just end this now…I don't know…I don't know…fine.
She slams the phone down, turning to see Felicia standing next to
her, Gabrielle in her arms.
FADE OUT
