Mulder was assigned to the X-Files, the cases the FBI condiders unresolved, as unexplainable with the official human acquantainces: inside the X-Files we can find phenomenons going from UFO sightings to the paranormal, from evil possessions to serial killers. Mulder has a particular interest for such cases, even because of her sister, Samantha, supposed to be abtucted in childly age and in misteryous circumstances.

Scully was assigned to the X-Files to control Agent Mulder's activity involving the X-files. Differently from Mulder, she's skeptycal about paranormal phenomenons, whom she often gives a rational explanation. Case after case, Scully's scientific knowledge and good reputation inside the Bureau helped Mulder in his unusual work, giving him protection too. Dana is Bill Scully's daughter, a Marines Captain, and she's a very respected and estimated agent inside the FBI.

A.D. Walter S. Skinner

Skinner is the Assistant Director in the FBI's X-Files section. His relation with Mulder and Scully has a double connotation: if officially Skinner wants discipline and respect for the rules, unofficially he helps the two agents very often, even inside the FBI structure. Walter Skinner is an ex-marine who has fightened in Vietnam.
Walter S. Skinner is played by the actor Mitch Pileggi.

Cigarette smoking man

The most terrifying and ambiguous character of The X-Files, he's always monitoring Mulder and Scully, appearing unexpectingly to obfuscate their investigations' results. He has a lot of power inside the Government too, he knows the most unthinkable truths, he seems to be the one who can manage the entire world.
Just to know a little more about him, being not sure, we had do wait season 4, where it's been revealed, in the episode "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man", that when he was young he could have committed Martin Luther King Jr. and JFK's omicide. He's appearently killed in the episode "Redux II" but, at the end of season 5, we find out he's still alive. His return, then, carries out the revelation of his involvment in agent Jeffrey Spender's paternity.
The Cigarette Smoking Man is played by the actor William B. Davis.

Deep Throat

Deep Throat is the nickname of the first Mulder's informer: he's a very powerful man, appeared in the beginning of the series. During his time in season one, he helped Mulder very often, being almost a shadow appears at the right moment. The notices he gives are always hidden behind diffide from continuing the investigations, 'cause he's always unresolved between the importance of his position inside a top secret organization and his will to put the end to the crimes he knows have been perpetrated. Deep Throat was killed in return of Mulder's life in the season one finale, named "The Erlenmeyer Flask".
Deep Throat is played by the actor Jerry Hardin.

Mr. X

Mr. X is the informer after Deep Throat. The character is very different, very ambiguous, so that is not very clear what his true intentions could be: in fact, in more than a chance, he has refused to help Mulder and Scully. Even if he's very careful, he's been killed.

Agent Alex Krycek

Agent Krycek entered as a Mulder's assistant just after the first X-Files shutdown, but indeed he was under CSM's control to obstaculate Mulder. Mercenary, without scruples, he killed Mulder's father; he's connected to a lot of plans and he's collaborating with a russian secret organisation making experiments on human beings. Himself is a russian too.
Alex Krycek is played by the actor Nicholas Lea.

John Fitzgerald Byers (Lone Gunmen's)

Byers is the expert on information systems and the military, and usually the most over-dressed member of the team. In Unusual Suspects we learned that Byers was named after JFK - although before the assassination, his parents were going to call him Bertam. Byers is the guy who comes around in a suit and tie and fixes the photocopiers: his whole life focus is on maintaining The Long Gunmen office and the newsletter.
Byers is played by the actor Bruce Harwood.

Melvin Frohike (Lone Gunmen's)

The Lone Gunmen member blessed with possibly the worst first name, Frohike is the expert on photographics and surveillance. Always dressed with combat boots, Frohike is also the member of the group with a crush on Scully.
Frohike is played by the actor Tom Braidwood.

Ringo Langly (Lone Gunmen's)

The communications specialist of The Lone Gunmen group, Langly is the one with long blonde hair, hard rock t-shirts and black-rimmed spectacles. And, unlike the other members of the Gunmen group, he doesn't entirely trust Mulder. In E.B.E., he refuses to turn off a recording device after Mulder asked him to. Langly first became involved in the Gunmen when he was asked by Frohike to join he and Byers for the "greatest hack in the world" - breaking into the FBI.
Langly is played by the actor Dean Haglund.

Marita Covarrubias

Marita Covarrubias became a Mulder's informer after the death of Mr. X, introduced by himself. About her, we know she's an assistant of an ONU official in New York; in the episode "The Red and the Black" the antidote to the Black Cancer has been succesfully tested on her.
Marita Covarrubias is played by the actress Laurie Holden.

Agent Jeffrey Spender

Jeffrey Spender is patient X-Cassandra Spender and CSM's son. He's been assigned, toghether with Agent Fowley, to the X-Files at the beginning of season six. He really doesn't matter of the investigations, but he only cares to act as his bosses wants.
Spender has been killed by CSM in the episode "One Son" (6x12). Jeffrey Spender is played by the actor Chris Owens, who already played young CSM and the "great mutato" in "Post-Modern Prometheus" episode.

Agent Diana Fowley

Diana Fowley knows Mulder from a very long time, and she's had a very important story with him.
In the episode "Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati", she dies, as told by Scully. Diana Fowley is played by the actress Mimi Rogers.

Mulder and Scully were assigned to Kersh after have been unassigned to the X-Files, in the episode "The Beginning". He's intentioned to keep the two agents apart from the X-Files cases.
