EPISODE SUMMARIES - SERIES 2

14. THE HOSTAGE

Colin gives in sermon in church, he talks about trouble in the town, about illegal alcohol being sold. Mr Hocking and his 2 sons are in town, they are the ones selling the alcohol. They think Colin will cause trouble for them, Colin and Emily are in the church when the 2 Hocking sons turn up outside, one of them throws a bottle through the window which hits a lamp and causes a fire. Colin and Emily get out and everyone in town tries to help put the fire out, but they can't save the church and it burns down. Then later on while Danni is on her own at Langara, the Hockings turn up and take her hostage and leave a message on the barn door. Matt, Colin and Rob go looking for her, they find her and she is alright. A foundation stone is laid down in place where the new church will be built.

15. THE SAVAGE LAND

Matt, Luke, and Oliver go across a desert to another town to buy some cattle. On the way back Luke is shot dead, Oliver goes off on his own and gets lost. Colin and others go searching for Matt and Luke, and with the help of an aboriginal man Matt makes it back safely. Oliver isn't seen again.

16. THE RAILROAD

Colin gives a funeral for a baby that dies from a poor family, the father works on the railroad. Then other kids from the poor families to do with the railroad are becoming ill, they are first thought to have diptheria and the other women in the town don't want to help with the sick kids in case they catch it, but Kathleen, Colin and Emily are helping. After the doctor has seen them is turns out it is because of low nourishment. While Emily was helping the kids she collapses, later on Colin and Emily tell the family that she is pregnant.

17. FATHERS AND SONS

I haven't got much of a description for this episode apart from that it is about Rob wanting to prove to Matt that he can do something on his own.

18. THE MANLY ART

Boxing troupe in town. Also in town is a man who says he is blind, and a woman who he says is his daughter. But it turns out they are man and wife and he isn't blind, and they plan on robbing the bank. Matt boxes against the main man in the boxing match.

19. THE DRY ARGUMENT

The town has a drought. A man turns up, James Duncan who says he is a dowser and can find water. He finds a place and him and Jack Kelly build a drilling thing. Everyone is a bit skeptical about him actual finding water, but eventually is does work and they find water.

20. SERVANT TO THE PEOPLE

Colin starts to build the new church. Emily has a twinge. Kathleen and Michael are going on the train to Melbourne to take some land documents to Matt in parliment. Colin and Emily go on the train aswell, they are going to see a doctor. Men cut down a tree to fall on the track to stop the train. The driver of the train and another man helping him get off the train to see the problem and the men start shooting at them, then they take them away with them. If anyone else tries to get off the train they start shooting. Colin tries and gets shot in the arm. Michael manages to escape and goes off to get help. Emily has a miscarriage. It turns out they were stopping the land document getting to Matt.

21. THE SEARCH

Joanne Walker is searching for her father who she hasn't seen for 20 years and asks for Matt's help in finding him, they find out he is dead.

22. THE LOST CHILD

Joanne Walker now finds out she has a younger brother who her father gave away, she manages to track him down.
Colin not in.

23. THE FOUNDLING

Colin and Rob come across a coach which as crashed into a river, men are dead, but they find a woman holding a baby. The woman's name is Ruth Whitney, the says the baby isn't hers, but they didn't find another woman. The baby is being looked after at Langara. Kathleen and Danni are trying to get Emily to hold the baby but she won't. Emily is upset that her baby was taken from her, and this woman has a baby and doesn't want it, and Colin begins lose faith in God because of the baby they lost and the men that died in the crash, and thinking a mother doesn't want her own baby. But, when Matt and Rob take another look around the river they come across another woman who is looking for her baby, the baby is hers.

24. THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW

I haven't got much of a description for this episode. It is about a new trouper in town who ends up upsetting everyone in town.

25. THE RECRUIT

Army recruiting troupe in town. Rob thinks about joining the army, but changes his mind after the truth comes out about how they enrol people.
Colin hardly in.

26. THE REILLY GANG

Only Danni and Emily are at Langara, the Reilly Gang who are 3 brothers come barging in with guns and hold them hostage. The brothers had done a bank raid and the troupers are after them. Colin turns up at Langara and is confronted by one of the brothers with a gun, he is held hostage with the others. They are after money but only petty cash is kept at Langara so Colin writes out a cheque. The youngest brother stays there watching Colin who is handcuffed to the piano, Emily and Danni, and the other 2 go into town. They go to the Printery as they want their story put in the newspaper. When one of them tries to cash in the cheque at the bank he can't as the cheque has to have Matt's signature on it aswell so he gets his gun out and gets money that way leaving Herbet Elliott tied up. Back at Langara Danni manages to get away and goes to Matt and Rob for help. Eventually all 3 are caught, and everyone is alright.

27. THE CHOICE

A man arrives in town, he is an friend of Ruth Whitney's from America, her father want him to talk to Jack Holbright wants him to work for his newspaper. But, what he doesn't know is Jack Holbright doesn't exist, Ruth has been writing articles under that name to prove to her father that she can do the job as good as any man. She tells the man that she is Jack Holbright, and the man lets her father know it's her, he agrees to letting her work for his newspaper, so Ruth leaves to go back to America.
Colin hardly in.

28. THE ABORIGINAL BOY (my own title as I don't know the proper title)

Michael becomes friends with an aboriginal boy. An aboriginal man keep hanging about at different places, it turns out he is the boy's father. The boys goes off into the bush with his father to learn about his culture.
Colin hardly in.

29. FLIGHT OF FANCY

Colin asks Kathleen at the printery if she can print copies of new hymns he and Emily have written. A man arrives in town in a hot air balloon. Michael tries to build something from a book which the man gave him.

30. THE INFORMANT (my own title as I don't know the proper one)

I don't have much of a description for this episode. It is about a man in parliment who is informing Kathleen of information.

31. THE CUTTING EDGE

A man who own a saw mill has a heart attack and dies. Colin gives funeral for man, at the funeral is the man's son, John Archer, who is an old friend of Colin's, he has a nickname for Colin - Speed. John is running the saw mill now, but he is working the men too hard and causing problems, and he is running out of money to pay the men wages. The problem is eventually solved with a government contract.

32. THE NEW CHURCH (my own title as I don't know proper one)

Colin and Emily see organ on a cart, Emily looks at it, it is like the one her mother had, the organ falls off the cart. It belong to a Russian family who are taking over the shop and moving into the rooms at the back of the shop. The boy of the family has a go at Colin and tells him to leave his family alone. Colin is building new church. Later on when Colin tries to talk to the boy he is rude again. Colin puts new cross in the church even though it isn't finished yet, boy comes along later and takes the cross and throws it into a river and also wrecks some of the building work. Later when Colin turns up there the building work is loose and a part falls on his arm and he has to have it in a sling. It turns out the Russian family had bad experiences back in Russia to do with men of the church where they take away members of the family and furniture and things and caused the death of the boy's grandfather, and this is why the boy acts this way with Colin. Everyone in church helps to finish rebuilding the church. The boy decides the put the cross back, and the family gives the organ which Rob managed to fix to the new church.
