Karchy Jonas is an immigrant, struggling with his schoolwork, his peers at the Catholic school that he attends, and with Diney Majeski, his co-worker at a dairy shop and his crush. Karchy wants to fit in so badly that he cheats to win the "Billy Magic High-School Hall of Fame" contest, so he can meat his idol, the smooth-talking cool DJ known as Billy Magic. Karchy tries to act like Billy Magic and acts as his lackey, but later he realizes that this "great life" isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
I thought that Telling Lies in America was a pretty good movie with a real heartfelt story. Although I can't picture Brad Renfro (Karchy) as an immigrant, or Diney Majeski (Calista Flockhart) to be in Brad/Karchy's age range, this was a great movie. I really reccomend this one, but if you're not into more of a touchy-feely type of movie, you may not like it.
