Calista is one of the few things in my life right now that I can truly say I "love". When I mean "love", I don't mean "sick-twisted-psycho-obsession" love, or "lookit-Pamela Anderson-run-in-a-Baywatch-suit" love. It's more of a respect type of love, if there is such a thing. Someone I look up to. I respect her as an actress, and as the person that she is, Calista Flockhart.
Now, you're probably thinking, "What can he possibly respect about her", right? Well, if you arent wondering THAT you must have pushed the "Back" button already. Well, if you really do want to know, I find that what Calista has gone through, and is going through right now takes a lot of determination and courage. Calista struggled to make it big in Broadway, and even though some times were surely very hard, she still stuck with what she really wanted to do. If I was in her shoes, I most likely would have dropped out of the acting buisness altogether. That's why I admire and respect Calista's strong willingness to do what she wants to do. I think that she is very much in control of her life, and says and does what she wants to do. I think she does what she feels she needs to do to make her life more happier and more fuffiled.
I also admire Calista's strength to overcome of all of these "anorexia" rumors. Any person would know what it feels like to be ridiculed, but I'm sure no-one reading this (unless perhaps Calista herself is reading this... if only......) knows what it's like to be ridiculed by an entire nation, as well as others like Austrailia and England! That has to do tremendous amount of damage to one's self confidence, and also make Calista more self concious about where she goes and what she does, which could, and most likely is, dogging her to the point of complete exhaustion. I am very glad that she is above and beyond retaliating or acting rude and snippy when asked about her weight, and that she just replies with a smile on her face. You all probably know that she wants to scream at people to leave her alone, but she doesn't. It takes a lot of will-power to withstand from doing that.
I, myself, along with many others, didnt know of Calista until Ally McBeal. When I tell people that Calista was in The Birdcage, they don't believe me, even if they've seen the movie. Most other people have acted the same. When I came online to look up Calista Flockhart, this new actress that I liked, I was disappointed with the lack of information on Calista herself. Some pages listed her as being born in Iowa(Including the OFFICIAL Ally McBeal page!), some New Jersey, and other various locations. Her age was also in big contention. Finally, the few fan-sites that were around at the time of Spring '98 focused on one thing, and that was Ally McBeal. After a little encouragement from my friend Matt, (who has a site dedicated to Titanic star Kate Winslet) I started this web-site, with one goal I wanted: To give fans and Calista herself a fun, well-designed page with information on Calista's life, as well as projects aside from Ally McBeal. As Calista herself said in an interview, "I'm afraid it's [Ally McBeal] all I'll be known for" and I don't think it should turn out that way.
