Chapter 20
Jessi wakes up to find both her parents staring at her. She was lying in between them on the bed.
B: Playing with Jessi's hair, "Good morning sleepy head."
J: "The party's over?"
S: Laughs. "The party's been over for awhile. It's Monday morning."
J: "Oh." She thinks for a minute. "Do we have to get up? I kinda like laying here."
B: "Not right away. But, when we're hungry we probably will."
J: "Okay." She closes her eyes and pretends to sleep some more. She opens them a few moments later. "Mom., will you make Saturday morning breakfast since we missed it?"
B: "Sure, unless Daddy wants to cook. He cooks much better than I do." She looks at Sonny.
S: "No. I wouldn't miss a chance to watch you cook. I gotta see this. Brenda in a kitchen? It's hard to picture."
B: "Hey. I can cook okay, Mr. Gourmet." She takes her pillow and throws it at him.
J: "Yeah, mom can cook." She whispers something in Brenda's ear.
B: "He sure does. Let's get ready."
S: Looks at them. They both have determined eyes with a hint of mischief. "Ready for what? Should I be worried?"
J: "T-attack!!" She starts tickling Sonny. Brenda starts in on him too. They are all laughing hysterically. Somehow the T-attack turned to Brenda and then to Jessi. When it was over they were in a heap on the floor. They had rolled out of the bed. Brenda untangled herself and stood up. The other two followed suit.
B: I don't know about you two, but I'm hungry now. Anyone want to help make breakfast?"
J: "I will. I'll go get the ingredients out." She scampers out of the room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen.
B: Turns to Sonny. "How about you?"
S: Steps closer to her. "I think I'll watch. You know, take in the scenery."
B: Takes a few steps closer to him so they are inches apart. "Oh, really?"
S: "Really." Takes her face in his hands and kisses her deeply and passionately. She wraps her arms around him and runs them up and down his back. The kiss continues through the phone ringing, to which they are oblivious. It only stops when Jessi knocks on the wall of the doorway. They both look up, a little embarrassed.
J: "Mom, Jaxxy is on the phone."
B: Sighs. It was a nice thought that Jax checked up on her once a month, but couldn't it have been at a better time? She breaks away from Sonny, takes the phone, and covers the receiver. "You weren't rude to him, were you?"
J: Shakes her head no, rolls her eyes, and turns and goes back down the stairs.
B: Puts the phone to her ear and sits on the bed. "Hello Jax. How'd you find me here?"
Ja: "Lois said you were at home. I just wanted to see if the rumors were true."
B: "And what rumors would those be?"
Ja: "The front page of the LA Times has a picture of you, Sonny and Jessi outside of Port Charles GH with the caption EX MOB BOSS COMES HOME TO SEE AILING DAUGHTER. Is this true?"
B: "Well most of it is true, Jax. Sonny is alive, but he came before Jessi fell. She wasn't ailing, just fell and hit her head. She's fine now." She covers the receiver again and whispers. "Sonny, get the newspaper. See what the headline is, I think we might have a problem."
S: He mouths the words "Why? What?"
B: She motions him to leave. "Just get it." He leaves.
Ja: "Are you sure she is okay? How about you, are you okay?
B: "We're fine, all of us. Thanks for being thoughtful enough to check up on us."
Ja: "He isn't good for you Brenda, but if he makes you happy, I wish you happiness."
B: "Thanks Jax. I wish you happiness with Sherri."
Ja: Thanks. I guess I'll let you go.
B: "bye"
Ja: "Bye"
They hang up. She went downstairs to see Sonny. He looks up.
S: "What did Jax want?"
B: "To see if you were alive and to check up on me. He does that. Checks up on me once a month. I think the world knows you are alive now. Jax lives in Malibu with his wife and it's all over the newspapers there.
S: "Well you're right." He shows her the newspaper with the picture and a similar Headline.
B: "This can't be good can it?"
S: "No. I knew word would get out soon that I was back, I just wanted it to last a little longer. It won't be long before people start asking questions."
B: Goes over to him and wraps her arms around his waist. "Everything's going to be fine, right?"
S: Puts his arm around her shoulders. "Baby, I really don't know. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

A little later, breakfast has been finished. They are trying to keep the mood happy for Jessi, but she can tell things are a little tense.
S: "That was great. Where did you learn to cook?"
B: "Lois and Gloria taught me. I visited Bensonhurst for a couple months when Jessi was first born. I decided I needed to learn how to cook so they happily taught me."
S: "They did a great job, don't you think so Jessi?"
B: "I guess, but I never ate anything that mom cooked bad."
S: "I'll have to test my cooking on you tonight."
J: "What do you cook?"
S: "Anything you want."
B: "How about some sort of pasta?"
S: "Okay pasta it is. Sound okay Jessi?"
J: "Yeah." She looks at both her parents. There was something going on that they weren't telling her about. She wanted to know now. "What's going on you two? You aren't telling me something. I can see it in your eyes."
Sonny and Brenda looked at each other. What were they going to tell her?
