Chapter 21

Jessi looked at her parents expectantly for an answer. They stare at her wondering what to do.
B: "Jessi what do you think we would be hiding from you?" She says from the sink where she had just put the breakfast dishes that she had gathered up.
J: "I don't know, but you are acting awfully suspicious. Mom you're acting too happy and you're very jittery. You talk to each other, but you haven't made eye contact once during breakfast. Are you fighting about something?"
B: "We're not fighting, but we're upset about something." Brenda takes a deep breath and looks at Sonny looking for advice to as what she should tell Jessi. He shakes his head no, don't tell her. "Jessi, I need talk to talk to Daddy, can leave us alone for a few minutes?"
J: "No, I want to know right now! Did I do something? Is it me?"
B: "No, Jess, it isn't you. There are some things your father and I need to discuss before we discuss them with you. Could you please leave us alone for awhile? Weren't you going to watch cartoons today?"
J: Folds arms across her chest and defiantly looks at Brenda. "I'm not leaving."
B: Puts on her stern mother voice. "Jessica Michelle do as you are told."
Jessi looks at Sonny with pleading eyes to be allowed to stay.
S: "You better do as your told Jessi."
Jessi got up in a huff, walked out of the kitchen slamming the door. A few seconds later a second door slammed upstairs as Jessi entered her bedroom.
S: "She's a stubborn one."
B: Facing the window above the kitchen sink. "Don't I know it?" She turns around to face Sonny. "We need to tell her what is going on. She needs to know our lives might be in danger. We can't keep this from her. There's going to be wild rumors in the papers, magazines, and on television about your whereabouts and who know s how they will affect her?"
S: "Can't we just hide them from her?"
B: "Sonny get real. Even if we could hide this from her, there is her school. The kids themselves will be coming up with their own stories. They'll taunt and tease her. We have to tell her what is true and not unless you want her to believe a bunch of lies. Don't you dare say take her out of school. I want her life to be as normal as possible."
S: "I wasn't going to suggest taking her out of school. You're right, her life does need to stay as normal as possible. I guess we have to do what we have to do to keep her safe. How do you think she'll react if she knows she might be in danger?"
B: "Honestly? I don't really know. Safety is another issue we need to discuss. How are you planning on protecting us?"
S: "I was going to talk to Jason about that. We'll probably have guards around the house and I want a guard with you and Jessi at all times."
B: "I can deal with that, but I don't know if she can. How long do you think this will go on?"
S: "I don't know. However long this plan runs for and all threats against us are gone."
B: "Do you have a time frame for this? A couple of weeks? Months? Years?"
S: He gets up from the table and walks over to her. "I don't know. It could be any of those. Why are you so upset about it now? You were okay with it earlier."
B: "Reality has sunk in now. I was so relieved to hear you were finally out of the mob. I thought I wouldn't have to worry about your life anymore, but you're still in danger. I could handle it if it was just myself, but we have Jessi now and I couldn't stand it if anything happened to her.
S: "You think I like the idea of you or her in danger? I don't. I'm doing everything I can to keep you and her out of danger. What more do you want me to do?"
B: "I don't know. I don't know. I just want it to be over."
S: "I know. There isn't much more I can do except leave town until everything is over. Oh God I really don't want to do that, but if it keeps you and Jessi out of the line of fire I will. Do you want me to leave?"
Brenda's eyes wen t wide with fear. That was the last thing in the world that she wanted him to do. In that instant the kitchen door swung open and Jessi came running in. She throws her arms around Sonny and sobs "Don't go Daddy. Please don't go."

Somewhere else.
Man: Looking at a picture. "Are you sure this is him? Do we have positive proof that Corinthos is among the living?"
Woman: " Yes, we're positive."
M: "Is this his wife and child?"
W: "Yes. Wife's name is Brenda Barrett Corinthos, daughter's name is Jessica Corinthos."
M: "I want to know everything there is to know about his family and his whereabouts for the last ten years."
W: "Yes sir. We already have people on that."
M: "Thank you. That's all for now. You may leave." The Woman leaves the room.
M: "You're going down for real this time Corinthos. I guarantee it."
