Chapter 13
At the gatehouse, the Ashton family was staring at Sara, who had just announced that Brenda was indeed alive. Lois walked over to Sara and put her arms around her. Smiling and wiping away tears that had started to fall, Sara wondered when she had started to become so emotional. She was letting herself cry in front of people, she never did that. Before she came to Port Charles she could only remember crying in front of Grandma Jane, and only rarely at that. She welcomed Lois' warm motherly embrace around her middle just below her chest and slightly above her waist.
Still in a state of shock, Lois stammered out the words, "That…that was your mother? That…that was Brenda?" Sara nodded her head up and down and Lois went on, "Of course it was Brenda, It's just too hard to believe. I thought sonny was Delusional when he told us he was going after her. But then again, he made it back from the dead, so why can't Brenda. Ned...Nedly...did you hear that!? Brenda's alive!" Lois hugged Sara even tighter. "Just think what you must be feeling. You must be so excited. What did she say? Where is she? Is Sonny bringing her home soon?"
"Lois, slow down. Give her a chance let things sink in before you start asking questions," Ned reminded Lois.
"You're right, Ned. I'm sorry Sara. I'm going too fast for you."
"That's okay Lois. I don't mean to be rude, but you're squeezing me too tight." Lois backed off.
"Oh I'm so sorry. Here, let's go sit over there," Lois said as she dragged Sara over to the living room couch. "You just sit here and get a hold of yourself, when you're ready to talk, we're here."
"Okay. Thanks." She said as the tears subsided. A million thoughts were flying through here head as well as a million different feelings coursing through her body. She was relieved that Daddy had found her, extremely happy that at the prospect of having a mother, and scared to meet her. What would her mother be like? Would her mother like her? Would she like her mother? Similar thoughts raced through her mind until Brooke handed her a cup of hot tea that Sara didn't remember asking for, but muttered thanks as she took the cup.

In London, Brenda was leaning against Sonny with her face buried in his chest. Her joyful sobbing had subsided. Sonny was soothingly rubbing her back. "She's real Baby, she's real. You can believe she's real." Sonny told her.
Tom, as always trying to keep his mind on the situation and not the emotions, interjects, "Brenda, Sonny you need to call her back. The press needs to think she's dead."
Brenda turns around in Sonny's embrace as he replies, "Why?? They don't know she's ours, only a people few in Port Charles do."
"Oh God. Tom is right. They wanted her dead for a reason, and if they find out…." Brenda started as Sonny felt her tense up against him.
"They'll do it again, and succeed this time." Tom finished for her.

At the Gatehouse, Sara has gotten over her initial shock and has started to talk nonstop. She and Lois were deep in conversation about Brenda. Lois was reassuring her fears of meeting her and telling stories about her. Lois had already filled Sara's mind with these stories the night of their first meeting, but Sara wanted to hear them again. Brooke was looking on wondering when her mother had changed from a mother to a talkative gossip. Ned looked on remembering nights when it was Lois and Brenda talking up a storm. Sara was so much like Brenda in ways and he couldn't believe that they would be reunited with their once "little sister" and "best person" soon. The ringing of the phone interrupted the scene.
"Hello, Ashtons." Brooke said into the phone.
"Lois?" A female voice answers.
Brooke, a bit annoyed since she gets this all the time, "No, this is Brooke."
"Brooke?! You sound just like how I remember your mother."
"Thanks, I think, who is this?" Brooke replied
"Oh, sorry. You probably don't remember me, but I'm your Aunt Brenda."
Eyes go wide. "Brenda?! I remember you a little. Here you probably want to talk to Sara." Brooke didn't have to say another word. Sara was up and standing by Brooke in a flash and Brooke handed her the phone.
"Mama?" Sara said into the phone.
"Yeah, it's me again, Sara." Brenda replied. "There's some things I want you to do for your safety okay?"
"Okay. I'll do anything." Sara replied.
"You can't let the press know that you got out alive. It would be very dangerous to you if you do. Okay?"
"Okay, but what about Brooke?"
"They can find out about Brooke, she's not in danger, but you stay away, okay?
"Okay, Mama."
"Your father is arranging some things with Luke and Mike to help you. You listen to them.
"I will."
The conversation went on a little longer until Sonny got on the phone to tell her what Luke and Mike were going to do to help. She talked a little while more and then reluctantly said 'bye to her parents. The looming press was nearing the gatehouse in search of a grieving family. Sara knew the story wasn't about her, but she still had to get away. She explained things to the Ashtons and disappeared out the back door.
