PAUL MCDERMOTT

A BIOGRAPHY

Born on the 13th of May 1962, he grew up in a catholic family (which may explain a few things) with several siblings, including his twin sister. He attended a Marist Brothers school in Canberra and after finishing travelled overseas.
When he came back he went to art school in Canberra. While he was there he joined the Doug Anthony All Stars. They toured for about eight years and spent quite a few of them in England. They performed their farewell tours in 1994.
When he came back to Australia he had a six month break, then started to write and perform Mosh, a musical. He started work on Good News Week in April 1996.
Paul writes a weekly article every Sunday for the Sun Morning Herald. This is often a very funny piece, though it may not set out to be. But it sometimes is very serious, and his writing always makes you think very hard about yourself.
He also maked an appearance on the JJJ breakfast show on Friday mornings
for an hour at eight o'clock in 1998. Among other things, he helped out with an ongoing serial (Captain Pants) and the weather game. This involved the weather being read out and at each city everyone made a comment about a topic i.e. bad first date food.
He draws and paints, he did a lot of the stage sets and and album covers for DAAS. There isn't much of it floating around, he likes to keep it private and fair enough too. If you saw Burkes Back Yard when Mikey was the celebrity gardener, there was one of his paintings hanging on Mikey's wall.
Paul has an amazing voice. And a very strong stage presence. Apart from the DAAS albums, he also has a GNW album (mainly monologues). He did a Saturday night show called Good News Weekend where he sung at the end of each show.
Paul McDermott is a complex man. He paints, draws, sings, performs and has an incredible wit to name just a few things. Many talents, one man.
