Rude 'toon given time

SOUTH Park, the dirtiest cartoon on television and SBS's highest-rating show ever, has been moved to a later timeslot because the second series is so explicit it has had to be re-classified.

The animated story of four foul-mouthed third-graders from a weird small town in Colorado became an instant cult classic when it was first aired in the US last year.

SBS head of television Peter Cavanagh said yesterday the second series of the bizarre cartoon deserved an "M" rating and would be shown at 9.30pm on Mondays instead of 8pm. The first series is being shown on Foxtel's Comedy Channel.

"South Park's creators have said from the beginning that they intended to 'push the limits' with the program," Mr Cavanagh said. "With series two, the limits are much further out there."

The cartoon, created by college friends Trey Parker, 28 and Matt Stone, 26, has been an international runaway success, provoking devotion and outrage with its politically incorrect script and characters.
