Swing Announces Its
1998 '30 Under 30' Power List; From Monica to Master P in the
Dec/Jan Issue on Sale Nov. 10
NEW YORK, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Swing, the magazine for people
in their twenties, is proud to announce its 5th ``30 under 30''
power list. In its December 1998/January 1999 issue, the editors
at Swing profile the most influential and innovative members of
their generation.
Meet the people who earned the distinction this year and whose
impact will be felt for years to come. They are the notorious and
the infamous, moguls and entrepreneurs, executives and ...
interns. Certainly, the most controversial person of the year is
a 20-something named Monica Lewinsky. But there's also the
29-year-old Dan Keniry, who as the Republican co-chief of staff
and director of the House Rules Committee, has a major role in
determining the rules of the Lewinsky investigation. And what
powerful newspaper editor helps shape the coverage of it all?
29-year-old Susan Glasser, the Deputy National Editor at The
Washington Post.
And people in their twenties have growing impact beyond the
Beltway: from baseball's already perennial all-star, Seattle
Mariner's shortstop Alex Rodriguez to the guys who bring you the
most watched show on cable, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of South Park.
And who could forget Cameron and Leo (that's Diaz and DiCaprio,
of course).
In the young world of technology, meet Sky Dayton, 27, the
founder and chairman of Earthlink, the second largest internet
service provider in the country after AOL. And who's managing
your money? At Fidelity Investments, 28-year-old Erin Sullivan
runs the $2 billion emerging growth fund. At the crossroads of
business and culture is trendsetter Daymond John, founder and CEO
of FUBU (For Us By US), a line of urban streetwear. And finally,
there's Master P, master of all trades, who, when he's not
acting, producing films or helping kids in need, runs this year's
#1 rap label called No Limits -- which could be the motto for all
of the young people on our list.
``While there are always dozens of lists at the end of the year,
this list shows how much of our culture is shaped and determined
by people in their twenties,'' said Swing Editor-in-Chief David
Lauren.
Also featured in this issue ... if you think our chief worry
about the dawn of the millennium is the Y2K crash, we know an
equally important concern is where to celebrate the night of
December 31, 1999. In ``Celebration2000'' we offer a travel guide
to what's going on all over the world from a camel trek in
Tunisia to the Pacific Kingdom of Tonga where you'll be the first
to see the sunrise in the year 2000.
This issue marks Swing's fourth anniversary as a national
publication and Swing's 40th issue. President/Editor-in-Chief
David Lauren, 27, founded Swing in 1990 as an 18-year-old
sophomore at Duke University.
