Chapter Six
The Backseat of a Cab.
"Lucky aren't you even going to tell me where we are going?" Liz asked "I
mean, you drag me out of bed, practically in the middle of the night...."
Lucky interrupted her "Elizabeth, it's 5:30 in the morning, not the middle of
the night." Lucky rolled his eyes.
"Lucky Spencer, when it is the middle of summer, 5:30 in the morning IS the
middle of the night!" Liz said emphatically "And if you roll your eyes at me
one more time you will be going on our first date, alone!" Liz turned away
from him and crossed her arms.
Lucky looked at her back and rolled his eyes again. "We are going to the
train station." Lucky shook his head slightly as Liz whipped around and
flashed him a brilliant smile. Then she looked confused.
"Your idea of a perfect date is a train ride at 5:30 in the morning?" Liz
asked sarcastically
"No, my idea of a perfect date is what takes place at the end of the train
ride. Ever been to New York City?" Lucky asked smiling widely at her.
"EEEEEEEEE" Liz squealed and threw her arms around Lucky's neck "You're
taking me to New York City? I can't believe it. I've never been there
before."
Lucky nodded, "I know, I asked your grandmother."
The cabbie cleared his throat, "Excuse me, but I believe this is your stop."
He glanced at the happy couple in the back seat and thought to himself.
"Young love, just wait until they discover how hard life really is."
Lucky caught the cabbies eye in the mirror and as if reading his thoughts said
"If only you knew." He threw a $20 on the front seat "Keep the change."
Lucky grabbed Liz's hand and their bags "Come on, I let you sleep as late as
possible lazy bones, we gotta hurry to make our train."
As they ran through the train station laughing several commuters looked up
and smiled at the sight they presented. Breathlessly they reached the train
platform right as the conductor called the all aboard. Lucky and Liz weaved
their way through the train until they found seats in an unoccupied part of
the train.
"I can't believe that I'm going to New York City," Liz sighed, turning to look
at Lucky with bright eyes she asked "what are we going to do there?"
Lucky's throat tightend at the sight of her joy filled face "We are going to
do anything you want to do. I've got a few idea, but if there is anything you
want to do, or if you don't want to do something I've got planned, then you
just say so and we'll do something else." Lucky put his arm around her and
squeezed her up against him.
Liz smiled up at him and then directed her eyes to the scenery passing by
their window, "I'm sure that whatever you've planned will be great, but
promise me we can see the Statue of Liberty? I've always wanted to see that."
"Then we will put it at the top of our list," Lucky smiled down at the top of
her head, tears pooling in his eyes, "If you want to lay your head on my
shoulder and close your eyes, you've got about an hour until we get to New
York."
"Thanks Lucky, this is going to be the best day ever." Liz sighed happily and
laid her head on his shoulder. "Oh! " she said, suddenly lifting her head
back up "and a hotdog from one of those vendors, I've always wanted one of
those, they look so good in the movies."
Lucky made a face then smiled "As I said milady, New York is yours for the
asking today. If it's a hotdog you want then it's a hotdog you shall have."
But as he glanced at her reflection in the window of the train, he say that
she was already asleep. He brushed her hair lightly off her forehead and
kissed the top of her head. "Elizabeth, if you asked for the stars, I'd find
a way to get them for you." He tightend his hold around her shoulders and
laid his head on top of hers "Nothing is too much for you to ask of me."
***Note...this chapter was written *before* Tuesday's episode when Liz was
talking to Lucky while he slept. Just so you know. :-)) ***
