Pilot
We are introduced to all of the characters. Dawson Leery is a filmbuff with a great desire to be the next Speilburg. His best friend is Joey Potter, the girl with the hard life form across the creek. Pacey Witter is the clown of the group, who always has a joke or an insult to trade with Joey. Jen Lindley rounds out the group as Dawson’s new next door neighbor and love interest. In this episode, we see how Dawson and Joey’s relationship is changing as they begin to make the big leap into adulthood. Dawson also has problems that will soon arise with his parents that he does not yet know about. We also see Joey’s jealousy as Dawson becomes closer to Jen. Pacey also has a new love interest who ends up being his English teacher (who seems equally intrested in Pacey). This episode truly shows that Dawson’s Creek is the end of something simple and the beginning of everything else.

Dirty Dancing
Dawson, with the help of his friends, starts putting the final touches on his film. He also learns that he is not the only one with and interest in Jen. As Dawson thinks of a way to get Jen, Joey’s jealously grows and grows. Pacey’s relationship with his English teacher, Ms. Tamara Jacobs, begins to blossom. In the end, Dawson finally gets Jen and Joey is only left to watch.

Prelude to a Kiss
For Dawson to gain admission to the film class he so desperately wants to be in, he must serve as a PA for the class’s film, Helmets of Glory. This cuts into his plans for the perfect first kiss with Jen, who he also has to film the final shot of his movie with. A rich kid, Anderson Crawford, has swept into town, and is also sweeping Joey off of her feet. Joey has told Anderson that she is also rich herself, so the boy will like her more. There is also a hint of jealously from Dawson in the matter. Pacey and Tamara’s romance goes from innocent to illegal as we see them becoming a little better aquatinted (if you get my drift) near the end of the episode. Dawson also gets his kiss as the show ends.

Carnal Knowledge
In this episode, secrets come out of the closet. Dawson has what is probably the worst day of his life. As Mr. and Mrs. Leery’s 20th Wedding Anniversary is coming up, Dawson finds that his mother is having an affair with her co-anchor (as he has expected for a while). Then he finds that Joey had known about it for awhile and didn’t tell him. He then goes running to Jen to talk about his problems, but he finds from her that her past is more troubled than he could have ever imagined. Pacey and Tamara work to hide their affair. As Dawson struggles to come to terms with his many problems, he and Joey make up, but Joey realizes that things may never be the same with her best friend.

Blown Away
A hurricane has hit Capeside and many are coming to the Leery’s home for refuge. Jen and Dawson over her past, while Mr. and Mrs. Leery fight about Mrs. Leery’s affair. Pacey and his brother, Doug, clear the beach and then find themselves at Tamara’s. Doug begins to show interest in Tamara, while Pacey becomes very jealous and a small fight begins between the brothers. In the end, Jen and Dawson make up, Mr. and Mrs. Leery begin to pick up the broken pieces of their marriage, and all is well for Pacey and Tamara.

Look Who's Talking
Word breaks out about Pacey and Tamara, and Pacey searches for a way to make it all sound like a big rumor. As a result, Pacey and Tamara break up. Bessie, Joey’s sister, goes into labor and it is up to Joey and Dawson to find a way to help her through. The baby is safely delivered by Jen’s grandmother and is healthy. Finally, Pacey saves the day for Tamara by telling everyone it was a lie. Tamara then feels that it is time to leave Capeside, and she and Pacey break apart peacefully.

The Breakfast Club
The whole group ends up in Saturday detention, the most notable being Dawson, who is there for breaking Pacey’s nose with a basketball. Also in detention is Abby, an obnoxious rich girl. As the day’s boredom trots on, Abby suggests a game of Truth or Dare. In this game, Abby dares Pacey to kiss Jen, and Pacey dares Joey to kiss Dawson. Their kiss is quite revealing, showing not only Joey’s interest in Dawson, but Dawson’s interest in Joey. All make a break out of the library, where they are being held captive. Pacey and Dawson play a game of basketball, while Abby points out to Jen that Joey has feelings for Dawson. Joey tries to completely avoid the subject. They return to the library, where secrets about each of them are revealed. Joey almost tells Dawson everything before they are sent home.

Escape From New York
Jen’s ex boyfriend from New York, Billy, drops in for a visit. Billy ends up staying at Dawson’s, and Dawson is completely confused about what to do about the situation. Jen begins spending most of her time with Billy and Dawson is left out in the cold. Pacey drags Joey to a B-B-Q in the beach, where she is almost taken advantage of one of the guys there. Pacey punches the guy and saves Joey. He and Dawson take Joey home. Dawson tells Joey he is confused about their relationship, but will always be there for her. Although she has passed out, the message somehow gets through to her and she kisses Dawson. On the way back across the creek, Pacey tells Dawson that Joey is in love with him. Dawson tells him he’s wrong. Dawson returns to his room to find Billy leaving. Billy tells Dawson that Jen has told him that it’s over between them and he leaves. Dawson sees Jen on the pier and goes out to talk to her. Jen then dumps Dawson.

In the Company of Men
Pacey, Dawson, and Billy go on a road trip to Providence in an attempt to get Dawson over Jen. There, Dawson meets a film student and realizes that there are other girls he might like besides Jen. Back in Capeside, a football player says that he and Joey had sex (a blatant lie) and Jen helps her get revenge on him.

Modern Romance
Dawson makes a plan to get Jen back by way of a double date, and Pacey and Joey are paired for an extra credit assignment in Science. Dawson’s date makes way to the Capeside Fair and Dawson finds that his date also has an intrest in Jen’s date. They join forces to get what they want, but both fail miserably at their task. Pacey and Joey grow closer, and Pacey starts to have a more than friendly interest in her. Pacey asks Dawson for permission to kiss Joey. Dawson seems very hesitant to let him, but gives him permission to kiss her. Joey rejects him, but tells him that she has come to see him as more of a friend. Dawson, not knowing that hew has already done so, goes to the video store to tell Pacey not to kiss Joey. Pacey says that he not only has already done it, but she kissed him back. Dawson says that he’s full of it. Pacey then tells him so is he. He tells Dawson it’s time to make a choice between Jen and Joey. That is where the episode ends.

The Scare (Friday the 13th)
It’s Friday the 13th and Dawson loves it. He works it out where Jen and her date will be there along with the rest of the group for a seance he is having. Pacey, Dawson, and Joey all go to the store to get some stuff for the seance. There Pacey meets a woman who is having trouble with her boyfriend and invites her to the seance. Also there is a killer on the loose that is suspected to be in Capeside. They return to the house and the scaring begins. Joey pretends to be dead, which leads to a discussion at the end of the show about if Dawson would be sad if Joey died and vice versa. They both admit that their lives would be unimaginable without the other. The show ends with them watching the evening news, where they see that the killer has been captured. The weird part is that Joey was talking to him earlier that night.

Pretty Woman
Capeside is all a buzz by the Annual Miss Windjammer Beauty Pageant that is coming up. Jen and Joey become friends, and Jen suggests to Joey that she should enter the pageant. Joey only accepts the idea because of the $5,000 prize for winning. Pacey, who is having problems with his dad, also enters the pageant (which is traditionally all-female). Jen helps Joey prepare for the pageant and does a wonderful job. Dawson, who is filming the pageant for his mom’s news station, sees Joey and how beautiful she is while filming. He decides that his feelings for Joey might be becoming more that platonic. Jen notices this and becomes quite jealous. Pacey finds that he has no chance of winning and tells the crowd exactly what he thinks of them. Joey comes in second in the pageant. She and Dawson talk afterwards, and Dawson tells Joey of his interest in her. Joey is angry at Dawson for only liking her when she looks beautiful. They both go home and En meets Dawson at the front of his house. She says that she wants to get back with him. He tells her it’s not a good time for him and she leaves crying.

Breaking Away
Jen’s grandfather wakes up and he is taken to the hospital. Joey is offered a scholarship to spend the semester in France. Joey has this on her mind, along with going to see her dad in prison on his birthday. Dawson goes with her for moral support. They have to stay overnight, and she and Dawson have a talk about the confusion that is their relationship in the motel. They go back to the prison the next day. Joey shows much anger toward her dad and storms out. Damson starts to go after her, but Joey’s dad stops him. He asks him questions about Joey. Dawson’s changing affection for Joey becomes obvious as he talks about her. When they return to Capeside, it seems that Joey has decided to go to France. Later on, Pacey (who’s trouble with his dad has gotten worse) talks with Joey at the Icehouse and takes her back to the prison to see her dad. She talks to him and they take a step towards a real relationship. He tells her that he loves her and Dawson loves her and she should tell Dawson of her feelings. Jen’s grandfather has another stroke and goes back into his coma. She goes over to Dawson’s for comforts and spends the night there. Joey comes to see Dawson the next day and sees them there. She gets the wrong idea and runs off. Dawson goes after her, and Jen goes back to her house. She finds out that her grandfather has died. Her grandmother goes to church, and so does Jen. After searching all day, Dawson finds Joey in his closet. They begin talking and they both decide that they just want to be honest with each other. When Dawson seems afraid of the ramifications of saying what he really feels. Joey begins to leave, but Dawson stops her and kisses her twice. She then kisses him and the episode ends.
