Same night. Paul and Russell have left the Grimes mansion to search for Quentin, who has kidnapped Tess. Some people are still in the rose garden, watching the paramedics take the body of Officer Young away. Cordelia and Everett Burnham arrive on the scene.

Rosamond: Cordy! Everett!

Cordelia: Rosie, what's going on?

Rosamond: That madman--the one I told you about--he's kidnapped Tess, and killed a policeman. I found the body.

Everett: Good Lord! Rosie, are you okay?

Rosamond: I'm fine. It's Tess we should be worried about.

(Lance walks over to them and puts his arms around Rosamond)

Lance: Rosie, let me take you inside. I'll get you some water.

Everett: We'll join you. (All four go inside).

Meanwhile, Loretta has just learned Paul is Kane Garrett's son, and she is dumfounded.

Loretta: Your son?

Kane: Yes. It's a long story, but we will all sit down and talk about it after we find Tess.

Paul and Russell are in Russell's police car heading south.

Russell: I feel repsonsible for this mess. I should have taken more precautions.

Paul: Don't blame yourself Russ. This is Joanna's fault. Her twisted affection for me brought this on. Hey----there's something in the road up ahead. It looks like a person.

Russell (slowing down and pulling over): I hope it's not what I think.

(They get out of the car, and find the body of another officer).

Russell: Holy Mother. It's Officer Lennox. He's been stabbed. Let's get back to the car. I'll radio 911. We have got to find Tess and Quentin.

(As they make their way to the car, another police car slows down beside them. Out steps Kane and a policeman).

Paul: What are you doing here?

Kane: I'm coming with you.

Russell: Excuse me, who are you?

Kane: I'll explain on the way. I need to be with Paul. Besides, three men are better than two. Especially since this nut has killed a cop. (Sees the body) Make that two cops. Good God.

Paul: It's okay Russell. Let's go. We're wasting time.

Back at the Grimes mansion, Loretta and Ingrid are in Ingrid's bedroom.

Loretta: Your brother Kane is Paul's real father? Why didn't you tell me?

Ingrid: My parents and the Harpers swore me to secrecy. Also, I got married to a man whose parents didn't like me. If they found out my teenage brother got his girlfriend pregnant, they would have found some way to blame me. I was trying to protect my family.

Loretta: Oh Ingy, you haven't had much of a good life have you?

Ingrid: My life is not what's important now. We have to focus on Tess.

Loretta: Tess---(starts to cry. Ingrid puts her arms around her)

Loretta: That man said he loved my daughter. I hope he doesn't hurt her. He can't, he just can't!

Cordelia, Everett, Rosamond, and Lance are in the dining room. Lance still has his arms around Rosie.

Everett: Cordy, we need to check on Jadyn.

Rosamond: She's upstairs. I checked on her earlier. I hope she's still sleeping.

Cordelia: Rosie, will you be okay?

Rosamond: Yes, Lance is here. Go on, I'll be fine.

(Cordelia and Everett leave)

Rosamond: I can't believe how quickly this wonderful evening has turned into such a nightmare. First Tess and now Eliza---

Lance: Eliza? What's wrong with Eliza?

Rosamond: We had a talk in one of the upstairs bathrooms earlier. She was crying. (Pause) Lance, she told me you broke up with her.

Lance: Rosie-----

Rosamond: Let me finish. She said you broke up with her because you're in love with me. Is that true?

Lance: Rosie, I---uh---oh dammit, I can't lie anymore! Yes, it's true. I am in love with you. I love you and I want to be with you and I don't care who knows!

(Before Rosamond can reply, Lance kisses her passionately. At first she resists, but then puts her arms around him. What the couple doesn't know is Eliza has been watching outside through the window, heartbroken).

Back to Paul, Russell, and Kane. They are riding in Russell's car.

Russell: I'll be stopping by the station. I told Chief Hernandez to come down from Bel Air. He wants to catch Quentin as much as we do. As you know, Quentin murdered Lora Del Rio up there. Mario can really be of help to us. (To Kane) So let me get this straight. You are Paul's father and Paul was adopted by the Harpers?

Kane: That's right.

Russell: No wonder Paul is so different from Joanna.

Paul: Loretta and Te---Tess have been saying that for years. (Begins to tear up).

Kane (putting a hand on Paul's shoulder): Paul, we'll find her. We will. You have to be strong for Tess. She would want that.

Paul: You're right Dad. (He reaches up and puts his hand on Kane's)

Russell: Calling him Dad already? That's great.

Paul: What's great is finding Tess and that sick bastard before he hurts somebody else....
