It's now late evening, a little before 10:30. Quentin has fixed his flat tire and now he is driving towards the Maryland/Virginia line. Tess is still in the trunk. Quentin is beginning to get tired. He searches for a place to turn off. On his right are a bunch of abandoned high rises---the perfect place to hide out for the night. Quentin pulls off on the exit and makes his way towards the buildings....

Downtown Breckenridge, the police station. Russell, Paul, and Kane have met Chief Mario Hernandez, whom Russell has called to help them find Quentin and Tess. They are on their way out of the station heading to Russell's car.

Russell: It's highly unlikely Michaels is heading north. Breckenridge is closer to the north. He needs to be away from us. I figure he's gotten a three hour start.

Paul: Then let's get going. Tessie may be strong, I know she can take care of herself, but Quentin is a psychopath, and I don't think she could survive unless we get to her.....(tries not to cry)

Kane (putting his arms around his son): You can't think like this Paul. You have to be strong for Tess too. We'll find them. You and Tess will be married. Quentin will be caught. He can't go on like this.

Paul: You're right. I'm so glad you're here.

Hernandez: He's got to be almost in Virginia now. I'm pretty sure he'll be looking for a place to hide. Somewhere nobody's around. An abandoned building maybe.

(All the men get in the car and drive off).

Back at the Grimes mansion, the Grimes family, the Sherwood family, and Deanna Thorpe have all gathered in the den. A TV crew from WBRE has just left.

Marcus: With the station putting Tess and Quentin's pictures on TV, somebody is sure to spot them.

Loretta: Let's hope so Marcus.

Larry (hugging Deanna): Deanna, you were right about Quentin. I should have told Russell sooner. Maybe this nightmare wouldn't have happened.

Marcus: Don't blame yourself son. The only person responsible for this is Joanna Harper. Her twisted sense of family brought this all on.

Loretta: It's still such a shock. but I thank the Lord Paul isn't Joanna's real son. I know that you all (looking at the Grimes') will love him. You probably already do.

Ingrid: You don't know how much Kane wanted to be a part of his life. (To Marcus) Marcus, I'm so sorry I never told you the truth! You know how my parents were. They didn't like it when I left home and moved across the country, and then their only son comes here and fathers a child out of wedlock. At least you were out of the country. Everything was kep quiet. You didn't have to come home and face a scandal.

Marcus (hugging his wife): You could have told me. I would have understood.

Ingrid: I know that now.

Marcus: If you all don't mind, I'm going to put Ingrid to bed. She's had enough excitement for one day. Larry, Loretta, Dorothy, Deanna, you can stay here if you'd like.

Dorothy: Thank you so much Marcus.

Marcus: You're family now. Come on Ingy. (They head out)

Lance: I'll be right back. (He walks out and spots Eliza in the living room collapsed in a chair) Eliza, how are you doing?

Eliza: I could have done the report.

Lance: You are in no condition to be on the air, and you know that.

Eliza: Why can't things be like they were?

Lance: You know that's not possible anymore. I love Rosie.

Eliza: But she doesn't love you!

(Rosamond enters)

Rosamond: Lance, we need to talk.

Back to the abandoned high- rise complex. Quentin is opening the trunk of the car. But before he can get Tess out, her leg shoots out and kicks Quentin in the chest, knocking him to the ground. Tess leaps out of the trunk. She has gotten her gag off. She grabs Quentin's keys, runs to the car, and gets in, driving off, with Quentin screaming her name....
