The Breckenridge police station is jumping. Joanna Harper has just escaped from jail in a police car. An ambulence is on its way to take Officer Atherton to the hospital, who was found lying unconcious in Joanna's jail cell. She had almost smothered him to death, but another officer found him and performed CPR on him, stabilizing him. One of the sergeants has gathered a patrol of cops to begin a manhunt for Joanna using dogs, cars, and a helicopter. After the patrol leaves, the phone rings. Officer Sheila Tandy, the one who performed CPR on Atherton, answers it.

Sheila: Good morning, B.P.D. Officer Tandy speaking.
Russell: Good morning Sheila, it's Russell. Is Atherton there? I have news on the Quentin Michaels situation.
Sheila: Sir, something has happened. Joanna Harper escaped from her cell this morning. She nearly smothered Atherton to death. I did CPR, and he's been rushed to the hospital. He's going to be okay. Sgt. Oakley has begun a manhunt.
Russell: Dear God. Looks like I'll be heading back to Breckenridge. See you at the station. (Hangs up)
(Mario Hernandez has overhead the call and looks at Russell quizically.)
Mario: Something else has gone wrong right?
Russell: Something very wrong. Joanna Harper has escaped.
Mario: What??? When was this?
Russell: This morning. She almost killed Atherton, but he's okay. Sheila Tandy did CPR on him, and he's at the hospital. Sgt. Oakley's started a search for her. (Rubs his face in disbelief) The hell this woman's put us through and Paul and Tess' families through is sickening. I'm going back to Breckenridge.
Mario: I'll go back to that carnival and send the cops there back home.
Russell: Good idea. Let's tell the family. Just another nightmare they have to face.
Mario: I hope Joanna doesn't know we're here in Virginia.
Russell: I doubt it. Our officers never told her anything, but Atherton might have mentioned Quentin's kidnapping of Tess, but I don't think he told her where we are.
Mario: Unless she's heard it from the media. And if she has, we need to find her quick. Before there's anymore bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Paul Harper is in Kane Garrett's room, sitting beside him. He is holding his hand and talking to him, trying to wake him up.

Paul: What a way to begin a reunion, huh Dad? You almost die trying to protect me from a psycho, and you hardly know me. You really showed you do love me. I haven't known love like that since Stephen and my other father died. I guess what Joanna has for me is love, but it's demented and wicked and evil and I don't want to have anything to do with her anymore. You and the Sherwoods and the Grimes are my family now. (Pause) You have to wake up Dad. You need to be here for me. And for Tess. I want you to walk her down the aisle at our wedding. I want you to help me pass out cigars when your grandchildren are born. We have so much to learn about each other. We have the rest of our lives to be friends, as well as father and son. But if you want to do this, and I know with all my heart you do, then wake up. Please Dad.
(Kane doesn't respond. Paul lays his head down on his chest and cries for a bit. Then he squeezes his hand and gets up. He begins to leave the room, but Kane starts to stir. He turns his head from side to side, and slowly opens his eyes. He manages to focus to see Paul opening the door, and he tries to open his mouth to speak.)
Kane: Paul. (Paul stops and turns around)
Paul: Dad?
Kane: Paul, don---don't go.
Paul (running to his bedside) I won't Dad. I'm here for you. I'll always be here.
Kane: I love you Paul.
Paul: (squeezing his hand) I know Dad, I know.

Tess and the rest of the Sherwoods are in the waiting room talking. The Grimes family have spread out to other areas in the hospital. Russell and Mario haven't left yet, but Russell is on the pay phone with Officer Sheila Tandy.

Russell: Any new information Sheila? I'm getting ready to leave.
Sheila: They've spotted Joanna on I-95 south, but they don't want to do a high speed chase.
Russell: I hope she doesn't know where we're at.
Sheila: Unless she's heard anything on the radio, I don't see how she could. She probably went on I-95 south as a habit. I'll call you if I get any updates.
Russell: Thanks, Sheila. Talk to you later. (Hangs up the phone) (To Mario) Joanna's on I-95 south. We don't know yet if she knows we're here.
Mario: Time to inform the family. (Tess and her family walk up to the cops)
Tess: Everything okay?
Russell: No. Joanna has escaped.
Tess: What? (Loretta and Dorothy gasp and Larry frowns)
Loretta: How?
Russell: I don't know all the details, but she was able to overtake Officer Atherton and steal his keys.
Dorothy: She doesn't know we're here does she?
Mario: We don't know that yet. Russell is going back to Breckenridge and I'm heading for the carnival.
Russell: Okay buddy, I'm leaving. Be careful everyone.
(Mario and the Sherwoods say their goodbyes to Russell, and he heads for the elevator. Then Doctor MacDonald comes out and walks over to the group.)
Doctor: I just wanted to tell you Mr. Michaels is out of surgery and he is awake. And he wants to speak to a Tess Sherwood. (Everyone tenses up)
Tess: No. Oh God. Why?
