Episode 39 Continued

After a delicious dinner, Paul and Tess share their first dance as a married couple.

Paul: Our dream has finally come true.

Tess: It's like something out of a fairy tale.

Paul: But it's real, and so much better than any story ever written. (They kiss, and the DJ announces other guests to join them. Lance and Rosamond, the Burnhams, Ingrid and Marcus, Deanna and Larry, Dorothy and Russell, Roark and his girlfriend, and Kane and Valerie head to the dance floor).

The reception is still going strong, and while Tess dances with Marcus, Kane and Paul are in the library.

Paul: You had something you wanted to tell me Dad?

Kane: It's very important. I didn't want to tell you with the others around.

Paul: Sounds serious.

Kane: It is. (Long pause) Paul, I'm leaving for Cincinatti Tuesday. I'm going back home.

Paul: What??? But why Dad?

Kane: I've neglected the company too long. They need me back.

Paul: But I need you Dad!

Kane: I need you too Paul, but I've already made the plane reservations. Besides, you and Tess will be leaving for Ocean City anyway.

Paul: We'll only be gone a week. After that, we'll be settling down, going back to our jobs---and our familes. And you're my family.

Kane: So is Ingy, Marcus, Lance and Roark. And don't forget about your mom and sisters.

Paul: But with you here, my family is whole. I can't lose you now, I just can't.

Kane: You'll never lose me. I'll call you, I'll email you.

Paul: It won't be the same.

Kane (hugging his son): Don't ever think of this as goodbye Paul. Because it's not. It's just the beginning.

Paul: Then why does it feel like the end? (Pause) When are you going to tell the family?

Kane: After the wedding. It'll be hard, but this is what I need to do.

Paul: Dad I----(fights back tears)

Kane: It's okay Paul, it's okay. (Hugs him again)

(Valerie has been outside the door listening).

Valerie: He can't leave now! Then I'll never get a chance to tell him how I feel, I'll never have the chance to love him ever again.....
